I'm wondering if EA games will scrap going to Aspyr and release Sims 3 themselves. They have the technology and facility to do so as shown with their recent-ish titles.

Thoughts?

I hope, Aspyr takes forever to release the sims for the mac, and its a big market for them... EA should scrap them :)

Pretty sure this hasn't been posted yet. Here are the system requirements for the Sims 3. Unfortunately these are for Windows though:

THE SIMS 3 MINIMUM HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

FOR WINDOWS XP

Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
1 GB RAM
At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content
128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
FOR WINDOWS VISTA

Windows Vista (Service Pack 1)
2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
1.5 GB RAM
At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content
128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least:
Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA X3000 or above.
2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
0.5 GB additional RAM
SUPPORTED VIDEO CARDS

NVIDIA GeForce series
FX 5900, FX 5950
6200, 6500, 6600, 6800,
7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
8400, 8500, 8600, 8800
9600, 9800, GTX 260, GTX 280

ATI Radeon™ series
9500, 9600, 9800
X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950

3450, 3650, 3850, 3870,
4850, 4870

Intel® Extreme Graphics
GMA X3x00 series

Laptop versions of these chipsets may work, but may run comparatively slower. Standalone cards that are installed in vanilla PCI slots (not PCIe or PCIx or AGP), such as some GeForce FX variants, will perform poorly. Intel integrated chipsets featuring underclocked parts will not perform adequately.

Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants will have low settings selected, but should run satisfactorily.

Please note that attempting to play the game using video hardware that isn't listed above may result in reduced performance, graphical issues or cause the game to not run at all.

The NVIDIA GeForce FX series is unsupported under Vista.

So all that being said, and being a newbie when it comes to mac specs, i'm considering a 2.0Ghz macbook with no upgrades. Mostly, I want to play the sims 3 and surf the web so I'm just looking for a toy really. Will I be OK or am I going to have problems with the "out of the box" macbook?

I don't know for the specs but you do realize that nor aspyr or EA games has confirm the release of the mac version, they should logically come out with one, if not probably 2-3 months later.. Don't base yourself on what people say, rely on facts only. They didn't say it would be released

Sims on MAC!!!!!

They have now! Thank the dear Lord!

The Sims 3 will launch on PC, MAC, iPhone, and mobile devices on June 2! Can't wait to see what they have for iPhone. My guess is that it will just be a sim creator similar to what they have for Spore. That said, even that will be a fun way to waste time during down times. Can't wait for the game. Finally I won't have to load into my bootcamp to play Sims! :)

Sims 1 w/ expansions is still king. Sims 2 was okay but now it will be ultra realistic. I want to live forever damnit!!!

Not till June now? WTF? It was supposed to be in like 2 weeks! Grrr....

I cant believe that they decided to push it back four months, only two weeks from the release date. I was so excited to get this game, and now I have to wait until summer to play it.

The worst part: "The June launch combined with the break-through game the team is building gives us the perfect runway to create awareness for The Sims 3,". Something only EA would do, they wanted more money. Didnt they know that they had thousands of Sims addicts in the palm of their hands? There are two types of people in this world, the Simmers, and the group called others. The Simmers would kill for this game. If I wasnt able to get it day of release, I was willing to tackled the first person who walked out of the store for it.

EA is evil.

Looking at the specs it will play it. But you will be using near minimum quality settings.

When the Sims 2 came out my PC crushed the Minimum specs but I could not go past 1024x768 with minimal Anti Aliasing and other settings on high.

I'm actually not that upset about the delay, but I think that is mostly because I had been anticipating a delay since the rumors of one started back around Christmas. I don't disagree that announcing the delay only two weeks before the former release date is very disappointing (as are many of EA's decisions of late) but I will still be out there on June 2 to go and get the game. That said, I haven't pre-ordered and likely won't until the very end, so that I can still get the free car download or whatever. Anyway, the best part of this is that now I will be able to play the sims while I'm waiting for classes to begin without having to completely shut down my comp from its bootcamp. Perhaps the fact that it's going to be Mac compatible is what's softening the blow? Who knows.

the release date for the sims 3 for pc has been pushed back to june 2!

but they still haven't announced the date for the mac version

Both the Mac and PC versions of the Sims 3 will be released on the same disc, the same day. The artwork for the game's boxes, both standard and collector's edition, have been updated to reflect the fact that it is a cross-platform disc (I pre-ordered mine through Amazon). There is a press release on the Sims 3 website announcing that both versions will be out this summer, they were not clear that both versions would be out June 2, but they do link to the box showing WIN/MAC in the corner. It has also been verified on the Sims 2 forum that it is a hybrid release.

Hi, I'm über new to Macs...
And i was planning on getting a Macbook.
Simply put, will it meet the requirements for Sims 3?

If the stated minimum specs are as understated for Sims 3 as they are for the Sims 2 it would be painful to play the game at minimum specs.

When the Sims 2 was released I had an Athlon 64 3000+ with 1GB of RAM, a fast hard drive and a 256MB Radeon X800XT (this and the GeForce 6800 were the top of the line cards at the time). The game could only be played at 1024x768 with settings on high and 2X AA. It also took a long time to load. This system was way above the minimum 800Mhz processor, 256MB RAM and 32MB GeForce 2/Radeon 7000.

You'll likely need to play at 800x600 with all details at minimum and any object hiding or transparency disabled, for a GMA 950 Macbook. Even the much older Age of Empires 3 can not be played on Intel chipsets, unless you avoid viewing any sea battles.

requires 10.5.7? How is that possible? 10.5.7 isnt even released and its already required? how is EA testing without it? then it works on 10.5.6! whats the deal?

Woot! Just came home from the Apple Store with a new speck hardshell and Sims 3!

I have the white macbook that came out previous to the recent one, the 2.0ghz and 120gb, and was told it would run just fine on it. About to make some lunch with the girlfriend and then I'm gonna install! I'll report back with how it performs.:D
