Nobody knows what Apple will do till they release info themselves, which is going to be months to come. I seriously doubt they will stick with 3.5" though, there is way to much pressure and demand for a larger phone, no not Note sized or anything like that, but obviously majority want at least a 4" screen. Look at every poll on ever forum, 4" always wins and Apple monitors this and other boards, hell like any company they monitor forums in general (that even have nothing to do with Mac's) when they pick up any chatter like this.

I'd bet cold hard cash that if Apple were to send out a mailer to every single iphone user and gave them multiple choice of what screen size they would prefer, 4" would win over the 3.5"

It's not like the phone would be massive or anything, hell my GSII has a 4.3" screen yet in a form that's barely larger then the 4/4S case. If other's can do, Apple can do it.

If Apple can't sell you on iOS, it's app store, customer service, user experience, and design then really I don't see why screen size will make much of a difference. I would concede that screen size matters for some, but the majority of smartphone users will not turn down iPhone because of the screen size.

I think iPhone has shown that 3.5" sells just fine. Will some be turned away. Sure. But they'll also attract new customers with other features.

Now don't get me wrong, I think a 4-4.3" screen would be a nice improvement in the next gen phone, but I would be ok if it stayed at 3.5".

Android can do it but its fragmentation problem is just getting more ridiculous. ICS is suppose to fix some of it but even then its still really really bad.

Saw this article on Temple Run just came to Android and its suffering really badly. Hundreds of tweets complaining about the app not working for their device, why it doesn't support that device, this device, etc.

pain in the ass for tons of devs. The dev Mika Mobile (Creators of Zombieville USA, Battleheart) stopped gaming games on Android. Its just too frustrating.

I will keep my 4S if a screen any larger than 4.0" is used on the next iPhone. I'm not really a fan anything bigger. Even possibly switch to an Android phone if they have any phones similar sized to the iPhone.

I kind of find it hard to believe so many people complain about the iPhone's screen size.

Like I've said previously, if you are going to switch to Android because of a slight feature such as screen size when Apple has SO much more to offer......go. Android and Windows needs customers anyways.

First off, a 3.5 inch screen is tiny and outdated unless its a dumb phone. Pretty much every smart phone made the last few years has been larger than that. Second, Android has more users than Apple has iPhone users, so actually, Apple could use the customers.

So by your argument, bigger is better, but how much bigger, b/c there are quite a few screen sizes. And when you break it down, there are probably more people using Apple's dated/tiny 3.5 inch screen than any one specific screen sized Android phone. So really, what size would you choose because you know that they aren't going to make more than one size.

And I fully agree Android has more users than Apple due to screen size

If the iPhone increased it's size above 4 inches, I will not buy it. Had the Galaxy S2 with its 4.3 inch screen, and it was just too big for me. I really like the 3.5 inches, but if the form factor remained the same with a 3.7 or 4 inch screen, than I would be happy as well.

For those that want a bigger screen ( 4.3 or 4.6 ), you can leave anytime you want. That's your choice. ;)

For those who want to stay in 2007 with a 3.5" screen you can leave anytime as well. I have had smartphones of all screen sizes and 4" is not huge or cumbersome. Apple can easily design it so the physical device feels the same in size but the screen is bigger. There is room inside the existing design to be more efficiently utilized. :apple:

Show me the article issued from APPLE. In either the form of a Keynote, or some other official capacity and I will believe it.

Until then it is mere rumours and speculation as per usual.

No need to throw the children and pets out the window, the house is NOT on fire yet.

I continue to be amazed at the 'head in the sand' crowd that wants nothing to do with a huge, gigantic football-field sized 4" screen (/sarcasm). If you ever laid your hands on a Samgung Captivate (with 4" screen) you'd know it's hardly physically larger than the box shaped iPhone 4. Also, it has a round edged back so it's a dream to hold. Think what design Apple could come up with.

"if Apple goes 4", I'll buy a 3.5" Android". Please, you're not kidding anyone. You'll buy the 4" iPhone and shout it's praise from the mountain tops.

Anyone who thinks that 4" is too big has either never held a 4" device or has really small hands. I switched from an iPhone 3G to a Motorola Atrix (4" screen) and the phones are almost the same size. The Atrix is 2mm taller and 5mm wider.

Lately I have been thinking about going back to an iPhone, but will wait to see if the new iPhone will be 4". It really is the perfect size for a phone.

4.3'? I don't know how I feel about that, but if any company out there can make a 4.3" fit properly it would be Apple. My update is in November so I'm hoping Apple really comes through for me. I am eagerly waiting to switch back to an iPhone.

For comparison:

Nobody except select Apple employee's know how large the next iPhone screen will or will not be.

I will state it for the millionth time, a 4" retina display would be perfection.

If you were waiting on news if apple was upping the screen size to switch to android or not, just switch. You're wasting your time trying to force yourself to be happy with something that you're not.

I came from 4.3 inch android phones to iPhone and loved the pocket ability. Some people come to the iPhone and complain "uhhhh ahhhh i can't see!" and others like me love the size because it feels like a phone i can put in my pocket and not have to think too much about.

Actually, i take that back. I've literally never met anyone that went from android to iPhone and hated it. Even the screen size. Never met anyone that even decided to "try" the smaller screen and were disappointed. It's always people that are already on android and seem to be justifying their hate for apple by saying "eww i could never go back to a tiny iPhone screen" with this pretentious superiority in the tone of their voice like its just so far beneath them that they can't imagine anybody ever using an iPhone. The idea is just repulsive. Just eww eww eww.

It's been the strangest thing hearing about how apple users think they're better than everyone else and blah blah blah, then being on android for 3 years and rolling around android forums/communities and just the constant one upping each other with "well, my phone has .2 ghz better than yours haha". Really? Really now? Just...stop. A phone doesn't make you better than anyone else. Choose what you like and don't belittle people that choose different

..Who here is switching over to Android now? Or any other operating system?

I sure as hell am.

Tired of this small screen, and the interface has been boring as hell lately.

The HTC One X, Galaxy S3, or Galaxy Journal (Note) is what I plan to get this coming November, if Verizon gets em, hopefully they do.

Already made the move yesterday. See my signature.

screw it, why not just make the iPad into an iPhone........:D

I really like the current screen size, I'm not like you ladies that carry your phone in your purse.....it's in my pant's pocket most of the time. I came from an Evo to the 4s and I love the smaller(slightly) size. Anything bigger than an Evo would be too big for me.........I find the current iPhone to be perfect, all the way around:cool:

I'll put it this way- as long as the screen never gets SMALLER the screen size alone will never be a make or break feature for me. I'm sticking with iOS until something insane happens with another OS- which by my standards will probably be never.

I wouldn't go to Android. That OS is a nightmare even if you have superior hardware. If Apple goofs up with the next iPhone I'll be taking my business to Windows phone.

How do you like your S2?

I'm waiting for either the Galaxy Journal (Note on Verizon) or the S3 (hopefully it comes to Verizon).

I'm hearing some good things about the Droid Fighter, and the HTC One X looks sick too.

But a part of me wants to get a Samsung Phone, most likely the Galaxy S3.

Check out the Meizu MX size comparison link I posted in the first page. 4" that is 1.2mm wider than a 3G. I think the width & thickness is more important than height when it comes to how a device feels in your hand. I really do believe Apple could do better (aside from new resolution issues).

As for a 4.3" screen, I don't think it's completely out of the question. The HTC One S is only 2.9mm wider than a 3G and is significantly slimmer than even a 4/4S.

seeya!

Boring? a UI isn't meant to provide you with entertainment, it is a tool.

The screen is small enough to be used with one hand (you can reach all of it with your thumb) - a bigger screen won't necessarily be able to do that.

Plus, the phone would need to be physically larger, and may not fit in pockets, etc.

the iphone screen isn't 3.5" by random chance. it is a good size.

If you want a larger screen, why not go for something that is actually significantly different like a tablet?

As far as the galaxy note goes: the 1980s called and they want their phone form-factor back.

im a tad tired of 3.5"

4" would be perfect if they can create it full screen with a thin bezel (or none)

3.5" is good for a phone, but I feel people are using these devices less and less for the phone. It is why products like the Note work. Of course it looks ridiculous when you're using it for a call, but if you're using your phone for texting, e-mail, browsing, etc. I think it would be very convenient.

I would like to see the iPhone go bigger, as I love Apple's hardware and OS. If they do not, I may consider a (vanilla/Nexus) Android or WP7 (Lumia 900) in the future. Of course with the latter comes a bleak app environment currently, but I do love the UI of WP7.
