I'd be happy with a 3.75" - 3.8" screen and near-identical iPhone width/height, but I don't switch to Android if the iPhone 5 still uses a 3.5" screen.

For me, the iPhone is more than its screen size. It's the apps and the UI. Maybe I'm getting older, but a flashy UI and glowy Tron-looking hilights isn't enough to make me switch. I have awesome integration between my iPhone, iPad and home/work Macs and wouldn't want to change that. Show me an Android phone that I can project a Keynote presentation off of. Or edit one for that matter. Show me one that can connect via Bluetooth or wifi to my iPad or MacBook Air and allow me to use the phone as a Keynote remote - showing me the current slide, next slide, speaker notes and virtual laser pointer. Or an AppleTV remote. Or... one of a hundred other things I can think of.

If I didn't integrate so deeply into the Apple ecosystem (iTunes, iCloud, iWork, iLife, OS X, etc.) then maybe I'd consider going back to Android. Tried it. Twice. Couldn't get my iPhone back fast enough.

..Who here is switching over to Android now? Or any other operating system?

I sure as hell am.

Tired of this small screen, and the interface has been boring as hell lately.

The HTC One X, Galaxy S3, or Galaxy Journal (Note) is what I plan to get this coming November, if Verizon gets em, hopefully they do.

I'm really fascinated by the speed with which people get "bored"with devices these days.Makes me wonder how short attention spans can get before the brain itself is unusable.

Must have something shiny and different every few months or tantrum ensues.

I'm sorry what did you just say, I saw something shiny and new and wasn't listening.:apple:

LOL. Oh yes, every phone has to be rebooted several times a week just so it functions correctly! Who made that up? Google? I can guarantee you there are millions of iPhone users who have never once rebooted their phones and they run perfectly fine. I would have to reboot my Android phones sometimes just to rest my GPS location on Google maps  So you settled for a phone you need to reboot frequently to get it to work right or risk it crashing because you wanted a bigger screen? Wow, just wow.

Umm have you ever had a REP tell you that you need to reboot your phone at least once a day so it can pull new PRL info from the towers or other updates? Duh. Yes it is recommended anyways. My iphone did require me to restart it every once in a while. But I will say at least apps don't crash on my Android like they did all the time on the iphone.

Until another company can blow my mind with top notch hardware and a silky smooth UI... I'm an iPhone user... regardless of screen size.

iPhone is not a top notch hardware. far from it. Here is a brief comparison with Android phones that do have a real top notch hardware:

Code:
                      iPhone 4 Android
---------------------------------------------------

CPU 800MHz 1.5GHz
RAM 512MB 1GB
Resolution 960x640 1280x720
Radio 3G 4G
Front Camera 0.3 MP 1.3 MP
Memory Cards - +
Back Side
Material glass anything but glass

As one can see iPhone 4S does not belong to high end smart phone market anymore.

So by your argument, bigger is better, but how much bigger, b/c there are quite a few screen sizes. And when you break it down, there are probably more people using Apple's dated/tiny 3.5 inch screen than any one specific screen sized Android phone. So really, what size would you choose because you know that they aren't going to make more than one size.

And I fully agree Android has more users than Apple due to screen size

4" is pretty close to perfect. And I would absolutely say screen size is a major benefit to switching to android phones. It might even be the #1 reason people pick android over the iPhone (soon to be known as the eyePhone if rumors are true).

Go ahead, switch to that lousy droid software that is windows based. Get you some viruses dude! And also, get you a lame plastic phone, I'll stick with apples iPhone. Better quality, nicer looking, much more fluent, etc. The 3.5" screen is not small, you have just gotten used to it and it no longer looks big. Soon you will say the same about the 4.2" screens. People are never satisfied.

Very funny. Considering that 1) Android is based on Linux and 2) flood of news today about malware affecting 1% of all Mac computers.

That's the 4 not the 4s, nice try though. The 4s has a 1Ghz dual core CPU. All of your posts are bashing the iPhone and praising Android. What are you doing here? I am reporting all your posts and I encourage others to do the same

4S is downclocked to 800MHz

Anyone who thinks that 4" is too big has either never held a 4" device or has really small hands. I switched from an iPhone 3G to a Motorola Atrix (4" screen) and the phones are almost the same size. The Atrix is 2mm taller and 5mm wider.

Lately I have been thinking about going back to an iPhone, but will wait to see if the new iPhone will be 4". It really is the perfect size for a phone.

4.3'? I don't know how I feel about that, but if any company out there can make a 4.3" fit properly it would be Apple. My update is in November so I'm hoping Apple really comes through for me. I am eagerly waiting to switch back to an iPhone.

For comparison:

A sllightly bigger screen might be nice for chubbier fingers. I had a Galaxy S once and screen size was okay, on the other hand hardware and software were utterly naff. But I'm sure the screen aspect ratio on Android 4 inch phones is a little more 'widescreen' than iphone/ipad, so a 4 inch diagonal measurement for an ios screen keeping the typical ios aspect ratio would in fact make the phone wider than phones such as the Atrix mentioned above, and your various HTCs and Galaxys. So then this leads either to the dreaded fragmentation as apps have to be rewritten to work in the new aspect ratio, which would surely be a no-go for a software-driven ecosystem such as ios, or the body of the phone has to be made wider than some posters here seem to imagine to accomodate the screen. For reference just check out the new 5 inch LG and how it's shape with a 4/3 ration screen compares to the taller Galaxy Note. If, then, the best answer in order to keep apps working fine and the phone as sweetly sized as it is is to maintain the 3.5 inch screen I for one would accept this as the iPhone is nothing if not a gorgeous piece of kit as it is!

I think Apple will go 4" or stick with 3.5. They would just be ridiculed for only going to, say, 3.8".

What do I expect Apple to do? It's hard to say. I remember a lot of folks, including the press, being floored when Apple didn't go 4" last year when a year earlier, everyone else did.

While many of us want a larger, modern sized display, Apple's able to sell record numbers of anything it builds. Furthermore as this thread proves, there's a huge contingent of users that can justify any decision Apple makes for them.

That fact renders any attempt at discussing size, pointless. Those who want the same old size have two well worn excuses they cling to. Its perfect now, as pre-programmed by Steve, or if changed the phone would be huge. End of any chance for intelligent discussion.

It's the Apple way :)

Glad to see I am not alone in this. Really flabbergasting.

Certainly not going Android...Jelly Bean or not. At the very worst i'll stick with my 4S until the next cycle. Dual core CPU/GPU plus a really good 8MP cam and 100% support for iOS 6 means i won't be found wanting for the next 12 months.

There are a lot of Android forums... Go on and be happy with your Android.

Well, I thought I mentioned this, but I guess not.

I finally made the switch to Android and I love it.

I've had 3 iphones, and I've just been bored with the UI for so long, and couldn't bare another 7 months of using it; so I traded my iPhone 4.

Rocking the HTC Rezound, and I love it!

4G Speeds (My iPhones 3G=barely 1MB. With 4G=between 4-20MB, depending on location)
4.3'' Screen
720p Display (Higher PPI than iPhone. 326 vs 342)
2MP Front Camera (iPhone has 0.3)
8MP Rear, and I can record video in 1080p and in slow motion (pretty cool)
Turn by Turn Voice Navigation
Widgets and Animations
Customization
Play Store (Better interface than App Store)
Dre Beats Headphones (Almost sound isolating)
Great Quality video
It's fast
and I LOVE IT.

After getting my Android, looking at an iPhone is just a downgrade to me now, cause it's just boring to me. iOS has just been apps and it just looks plain.

I found this image, and I couldn't agree more..

2011 and 2012 weren't added due to repetition. :p

Anyway, I can't wait for the Galaxy S3, that's gonna be the phone of the year, easily.

Yep, it's had the same screen and a similar OS for 5 years and guess what? No Android phone created comes close to even sniffing it in sales. Even if they do the same thing in its 6th year it will still sell more units in its first week than just about every Android phone will sell in a year. Apple is not worried.

I blame the ignorance of consumers. They've been brainwashed. Futurama and Simpsons have both joked about it, and this cartoon says it best:
