I'm not really sure how useful it will be for me personally. I'm in clamshell most of the time and my headphones don't have a mic.

Plus, on iOS I only use it to set alarms and send the occasional message. I can usually accomplish the same task easier manually. The one exception is on the Apple Watch. I LOVE siri on the Apple Watch and it's so convenient, when it works.

More bloat... Great...
Adding functionality in the form of another input method for a faster, easier workflow is definitely not bloat. This is not an unrelated service within a service, it's an alternative form of input.

hopefully she will be able to understand what I am saying. I find it very irritating now because especially with maps it doesn't understand location names very well

What's the point of having Siri on a laptop/desktop? Windows 10 has Cortana and it's really nothing more than a gimmick and makes little sense on a non-mobile device.

I am sure my old 17" 2009 MBP will be too old and feeble to have Siri. I would buy a new MBP in a second if they would offer the 17" screen.

When the iPhone 4s came out in 2011, we desperately wanted an update to OS X v10.8 (Mountain Lion). When it didn't show up in an update, we waited patiently for Mavericks. Nothing on Siri. Then Yosemite. Surely they'd include it during this major UI refresh! Nothing on Yosemite. Not even a word about it on El Cap. Sometimes it's hard to remember, but this is the single biggest request on every wishlist for the past four versions of OS X.

Single biggest request? Really? Maybe I'm an anomaly but I'd be very surprised if there's even a substantial minority that agrees with you.

I'm not a big user of Siri on my iPhone and I can't really think of many cases to use it on my iMac? Maybe it will make more sense and I'll use it more when it is released and I can get some ideas.

Since Dre joined the company, it's only appropriate with OS X 10.12 Compton *Straight outta Compton* song playing :)
[doublepost=1456331569][/doublepost]

I'm not aware of this requirement. can you explain? (True question)
OS X Compton. Siri response" turn right fool...not that right...." Siri talking ghetto...the new attitude feature.

Update: what happened to nMP as the rumor stated it will release on OS X capitan?

I wish they would just improve things like Finder and Preview instead of adding such a useless feature like Siri. I'm so sick of all these "cool" features that nobody really needs.
So just because you don't want it, nobody else does either? And why do you think they will only add Siri? There will be multiple new features and enhancements.

If it's fast and non intrusive then it will be beneficial. If you can just activate Siri via shortcut and say "Remind me..." while continuing to work then it will be great. On the iPhone you basically have to stop what you are doing in order to use Siri.

A lot of good responses to my post, many of them similar to this and echoing the same thought.

"If it can get things done in the background while you keep working"

I has never been my experience with Siri than you can just "set it and forget it". I often see myself following up on Siri to make sure it did things correctly, as it has a high failure rate. Any time I do that, it defeats the purpose.

Let me be the first to say, the easier the input method on the device, the less value I see for Siri.

AppleTV = most difficult for input = Best for Siri
iOS devices = modest input difficulty/speed = Good for Siri
Mac = easiest/fastest input via keyboard and mouse = less than ideal for Siri.

I'm not sure I see myself waiting on Siri, which takes forever most of the time, instead of just doing it. I'm already seated with my hands on the keys. It just doesn't fit with the application for Siri.

That usage scenario doesn't apply to everyone. For me, the iMac is in the centre of my apartment. This upgrade would effectively give me an Amazon Echo in a free software upgrade. Combined with HomeKit it could mean lights, AC etc. are controllable by voice even when your phone's in your pocket or in the other room, while the Mac would be useable even when you're on the couch watching Netflix.

I think I was one of the first people to kinda make a public forum asking why this feature wasn't added, and finally it will be a reality!! :)

Unless the Mac can do the voice recognition natively, it's still gonna be just a gimmicky and slightly privacy intruding feature like on iOS.

About time.

I'm wondering how old of a Mac Apple will make Siri available, because there is no way they can claim a Mac doesn't have "powerful enough" hardware like they did when Siri was introduced on the iPhone 4S but not the iPhone 4.

We agree to disagree....
It's pure bloat and feature tick list stuff with zero benefit. I can use google just fine.

Why spotlight? I find being able to search for anything on my Mac in one spot including PDFs that have a word in the text including on a map. I no longer fret over remembering what folder the folder I put that file is embedded in.

Why remove Spotlight? It's awesome. I mean, it's a little redundant being there's a search function on finder windows, but at the same time it's faster than going into the finder windows. Now notifications center, I definitely agree. It'd be nice to remove that. I find it more useful on my iPad then on the Mac

In theory Spotlight is very nice. In practice it is too resource consuming and buggy to use. In 10.9 Spotlight mostly works, but in later OS X versions it simply won't find all the files relevant to search query. This is despite A: reindexing all drives which helped only a little and B: removing index and creating it from scratch which helped for a couple of days.

Furthermore I suspect Mail uses Spotlight index for searches, it would explain why searching Mail is lottery in 10.10 and 10.11. Sometimes it works but most of the time it won't find the emails I need. These issues were one of the reasons I got fed up with 10.11 and 10.11, downgrading to 10.9.5 was one of the best decisions I have done and finally I have a Mac that just works! :D

I wish they would just improve things like Finder and Preview instead of adding such a useless feature like Siri. I'm so sick of all these "cool" features that nobody really needs.

Agreed.

I don't see how Siri would be beneficial on OS X. Furthermore I fear that Apple won't fix most of the bugs in 10.11 before they release 10.12. Same thing happened with 10.10 and I don't understand why Apple seems to ignore critique from many software developers and professionals the number of bugs in OS X?

As for the 10.12 itself I'm withholding opinion until Apple reveals official information. However I am not impressed with the yearly release schedule, neither Apple nor third party developers can keep up with the changes. I hope Apple would finally admit that new OS X version should only be released when its ready and not on pointless yearly schedule.

Well given the first thing I did when installing Windows 10 was switch of Cortana (and Cortana is better than Siri) why then would I want Siri? None are as good as 'Hello Google". :D
Well...cortana is smarter...and Siri is a victim of domestic violence...unable to function correctly.
