About time.

I'm wondering how old of a Mac Apple will make Siri available, because there is no way they can claim a Mac doesn't have "powerful enough" hardware like they did when Siri was introduced on the iPhone 4S but not the iPhone 4.

I'm sure it will only support iMacs and MacBooks from like 2012 and up. I'd be shocked if it was blanket coverage for all devices regardless of how old.

its weird that apple waited this long to implement the feature. it doesn't exactly sound like an r&d heavy implementation.

either they were short on ideas this round, or maybe they will have some new functionality that will make it interesting, even if the implementation isn't.

Well, then you will have two assistants answering you and you can find out which is the better.;)

Isn't SIRI officially still in BETA? (If yes, a joke in itself)

So, no way to know, which one of the two will be betta.

For me SIRI never worked and like others post , it's faster to just look things up yourself.

So right now I do not use and hide the spotlight menubar icon. Alfred is much faster and has never let me down. So now, I will not use Siri and hide the menubar icon. I turn it off ASAP when I get a new phone or reinstall iOS. I do not want to constantly be connected to servers and have my bandwidth slowed. I turn off all that crap.

If it makes you happy, do it. Nobody is stopping you.
SIRI on the Mac should not need to connect online. And the bandwidth it uses is insignificant, unless you are still using a Dial-up connection at 56Kbps.

The OS X menu bars lately look more cluttered than my grandpa's Windows XP taskbar on his installation that hasn't been reformatted in over 10 years.

I think the UI up there needs some fresh thinking and redesign. Every new feature cannot just be "let's add another icon!"

I bet you'd redesign it just like this...

With Siri always listening there needs to be some way of differentiating which device you're talking to. When I'm in bed if I say 'hey Siri what's the time' I get a response from three devices!

Siri is one of those features that, useful or not, should have been added years ago.

Hopefully they fix Dark Mode to include right click windows, window chrome and sidebars with 10.12. I get it won't be a Yosemite-style UI overhaul (nor should it be) but there are definitely some improvements to be made to the UI polish.

In addition, the stock apps should be rewritten in Swift. Control Center should launch on the leftmost side of the screen and replace the Apple Menu as well as relocate some of the icons from the menu bar (like Bluetooth).

wake me up when Siri becomes smarter and understands something basic like "Give me directions to my next appointment"

I've always been a little hesitant about a process that's always listening on a computer/device, even though I can understand the usefulness. I'll probably disable the 'Hey Siri' bit and just use the button.

When connected to power? Why not anytime? I use my MacBook Pro on battery 90% of the time.

Unlike with Samsung Smart TV's, no recordings are sent to servers. Only the part that comes after "Hey Siri" is sent...

At this point is obvious that Apple considers that Siri is OK as it is.

Most people won't care (and that is normal) but Siri is still not available in many languages including my own.

I understand that supporting accents from small countries doesn't make a lot of sense for Apple but still MS and Google do it so...
