Siri on HomePod Seems to Have Forgotten How to Give the Time

Interesting this is happening on earnings day when every other word out of Tim Cook’s mouth will be AI.

For me, Siri answers like this…..What time is it is the opening musical number and first single from the Disney Channel original movie High School Musical 2. Would you like to hear more? 🤓

I just use Siri for timers. It’s usually quicker to type out the google search yourself lol.

I have google nests in my house and they seem way more functional than HomePods. Even with an iPhone. Although the iPhone dictation makes me want to move back to a pixel with gboard lol.

Words cannot express how much I'm disappointed with the HomePod. Siri is just one of the many issues, but yes, Siri cannot handles time anymore.

I've been struggling with tons of HomePod issues for more than a year and a half and I don't feel Apple cares about fixing them. I think at this point it might be easier to replace Siri with another assistant…

We have used Google speakers for a while, but whether it was hardware or software, the experience has been going downhill. Finally decided to switch fully to Siri, and got few speakers to put around the house.

I have to say, we have FAR to go before Siri is as good as Google Assistant, and Google Assistant sucks.

Talk about Siri all you want, but the homepods in my house alerted me to my smoke detectors going off, which led me to look at my HSV cameras to see that there was a fire in my kitchen. I was able to get home with plenty of time to get the fire out with little damage. Add to that the great sound for my Apple TV(great sound for the $500 I spent on the speakers) and I'm happy with homepod and homepod mini in my home.

I unplugged my Homepod mini last week and said I'd wait for the next Homepod OS release before I plugged it in again! A few weeks back, it just started asking, "Hi there - how can I help?" at random intervals when no one was speaking, and the room was quiet!

I reset it a couple of times, cleaned the display to ensure there was no grime causing spurious inputs, removed, and re-added it to the Home app, etc. But no difference. Just Siri talking to herself randomly. <sigh> I do hope the next OS update fixes it...

At least weekly I get to play the game of restarting my HomePod minis, toggling airplane mode, toggling WiFi, just to stream iHeart to my HomePod minis. Most problem laden Apple product I’ve ever owned honestly.

This is my experience, Siri is almost unusable on my HomePods. The same commands seem to work better on my phone.

Bugs happen and since this is server side it can be fixed quickly, but these kind of issues feel much bigger when the base performance is so consistently terrible.
You said that perfectly. If this was a rare issue, it probably wouldn’t even be news. The problem is, it contributes to the story we all know about Siri being unreliable. Not even being able to tell the time, something so simple, makes it all the more noteworthy

Siri is siri-ously inconsistent… which at times is just maddening. It would be one thing if I knew Siri only responded to something when worded a certain way, or only provided limited info with certain queries, but it’s the inconsistencies that make me use my HomePod less and less. It seems that more often than not anymore, questions Siri used to provide answers for are now deferred to the iPhone with that awful “ask again from your iPhone” brush off. Even queries I expect to be consistent, such as activating certain scenes via Home smart devices, will suddenly and inexplicably stop being handled as expected, requiring me on the spot to learn if/how to reword the request to get the desired response. These are the things AI should be fixing! But it seems Apple has only backtracked on Siri’s dependability over the years. The other day I was at a friend’s place who uses Alexa and was amazed not only how much better she was but how much FASTER, too. Siri needs to make some major improvements if it ever hopes to catch up.
