If I were buying a phone, I'd be tempted by a mini iPhone and iPad mini as a pair.

I wouldn't want a lower spec. camera but, for many purposes, I'd be happy for the better camera to be on the iPad.

And I'd want tight integration options - the iPad being able to permanently use the phone's cellular connection, and various sync options (e.g. open Safari pages, files).

Redesign should make it look like a very modern device. With larger screen without increase in dimension, it should sell in large quantities

No way that there will be an iPad mini 8.4 inch in the pro/new air design language. If you look at alle the rumors, and the size, I think it will be a redesign that looks more like the 10.5 iPad Pro/Air from years ago. So still touchid, but with smaller chin and forehead. I also think the new regular/cheaper iPad will have this design with laminated glass. So a 10.5 inch regular iPad that’s is practically the same as the 10.5 inch pro/iPad Air from a few years ago and a new iPad mini in the same design with a 8.4 inch screen, with an a13 soc, for reasonable prices.

people are expecting too much, especially in the relative “cheap” segment. I would love an iPad mini with pro design, but it is will still be relatively expensive to produce. When components get cheaper and apple can pull it off to produce the “cheap” iPad in the same design as the current iPad Air , then apple will also release the mini in that new design.

this new iPad mini will take over the cheapest spot in the iPad line up, with an 10+ inch in the same design being more expensive.

On other sites, the mention that would have thinner bevel as well and would get rid the touch-ID button and relocate it somewhere else. Evidently at this point all this is rumours, but to me, it makes sense to re-haul the design if Apple wants to sell.

Also, when Apple introduces the M2 processors, the M1 would become available for their low-end line.

An iPad mini adopting the design of the fourth generation iPad Air seems like a given and a no brainer, given that it's obviously the next design generation of the iPad lines as a whole. I'll be sad to see the current design go on the mini. But I'm otherwise not surprised to see it happen. I wonder if that'll prompt Apple to call the standard iPad the "iPad Classic".

the iPad Mini 5 is already good and now supposedly will get even better with version 6 (Touch ID Power Button, a bit more screen, USB-C), however software wise iPadOS still lacks in options regards to connecting to an external monitor (screen resolutions, black bars).

Also wish you could have full desktop Firefox and Edge on it. (no niggling there is an App for this website banners, proper extension support)

Is not a pro but premium with perfect build, good performance and so on..i can see why some call it premium device
It’s Apple, I expect a level of quality in anything.
Premium is perfectly fine for others to use. I’d call it premium next to most Android tablets 😀. But for an Apple iPad product at 300$ Considered premium? Not my description.

It will either support Apple Pencil 1 or a Apple Pencil 2 mini will be launched. The Apple Pencil 2 is too long.

iPad Mini users are probably rocking an hand-me-down iPhone 7 or something like that.

How dare you! I am using an iPhone 6 (that I pre-ordered when they were announced).

The iPad mini though is the perfect size for me, as I do not see any benefit of the larger screen size as I prefer my MacBook for more intensive uses. And I do not like typing on a touch screen and use my iPad in places where an external keyboard would not be convenient. So a 9.7" iPad with the same virtual resolution offers no benefits and is just less convenient to carry and hold.

But then I have always used A5 / half letter sized notebooks etc. rather than A4 / letter anyway, so I guess that is just my naturally preferred form factor.

Although I intend to order an iPhone 13 when they are announced as my phone has started struggling, and it will give me an extra year over buying a 12 now, so although an upgraded iPad mini sounds great it will have to wait.

And I agree with those who want to keep a bevel to the edges. There are already too many times when I accidentally hit the top of the screen and cause it to scroll to the top because of how I hold mine. An edge-to-edge screen may look good but they are not usable for hand held devices. At least with a (not too big) phone you can hold it in the palm rather than needing a firm grip. But as they get bigger and lose their edge it is no wonder cases with handles on the back have become popular.

I am beyond hyped for an ipad mini redesign. Haven’t used an ipad in ages. My last one was the mini 3, and I stopped using because it was getting outdated. I’ve been tempted by the ipad pro/air for a long time, but I can’t comfortably hold them in one hand.

It will either support Apple Pencil 1 or a Apple Pencil 2 mini will be launched. The Apple Pencil 2 is too long.
I heard the next apple pencil is going to be smaller to fit the mini.

Bye, convenient and standard headphone jack!
That's the thing that bugs me the most about the M1 12.9 that I upgraded to from the original 1st gen 12.9. I don't mind the tiny bit of blooming or edge shadow due to the mini-LED display. No, it's the lack of a headphone jack that drives me nuts!

I first bought a 3rd party Belkin dongle that supposedly allows you to charge and listen at the same time. Only worked once. Then I bought the official Apple dongle and although it works, every time I'm done watching a video, it craps out and creates sound stuttering, so I either have to unplug it or jump into GarageBand, which strangely enough fixes it and then back to where I'm watching the video. Oh, and forget about charging at the same time.

As a final solution, I gave up and bought a SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless headset that allows me to listen to my PC via 2.4GHz wireless and MacBook/iPad/iPhone at the same time using Bluetooth. An extreme solution (not exactly a cheap headset), but also nice since I can then listen to YouTube/podcasts while gaming and change volume independently.

Would they really refresh the Apple Pencil just to fit the mini, which is a niche product? Wouldn't it make more sense to sell a Pencil specific to the mini?

It will be great news for small tablet fans. But I expect the price will be increased to $499 base. Because Apple knows that the iPad mini market is quite niche, and the people in it will be willing to pay for a mini iPad at any price.
Agreed! The iPad Air 4 received a $100 price increase from iPad Air 3 due to the redesign and I expect the Mini 6 will get the same approach.

The iPad Mini is a niche market… but kind of makes me wonder, why bring back Mini when there’s rumblings that iPhone Mini will be discontinued?
