If I were buying a phone, I'd be tempted by a mini iPhone and iPad mini as a pair.

I wouldn't want a lower spec. camera but, for many purposes, I'd be happy for the better camera to be on the iPad.

And I'd want tight integration options - the iPad being able to permanently use the phone's cellular connection, and various sync options (e.g. open Safari pages, files).
I agree, I have the M1 Mac mini, iPad mini, and I'm looking to replaces my S10e with a 12/13 mini

I want this sooo bad! I strongly prefer the small size of the minis to full size iPads which are too heavy for me to hold comfortably but I’ve been on the verge of getting an iPad Air 4 because my iPad mini 4 is a pain to use (horrendous battery life, slow, constant page refreshes, can’t handle multitasking even after I completely reset it, etc). The iPad mini five is significantly outdated at this point, I feel like, so I’ve never wanted to quite spring for that option. I feel like I’ve been waiting for the iPad mini 6 forever!

The Mini is the only iPad I’ve owned or wanted to own. Perfect size for a portable content consumption device and for playing the occasional game. Happy to see it’s getting a refresh.

I won’t be upgrading until it’s got OLED though.

Apple Pencil 2 length: 166 mm (6.53 in)
iPad mini 5 height: 200 mm (7.87 in)

They might have to shrink the volume buttons and have the Apple Pencil connector off-centre.

I always liked my minis - was great to be portable and best for eReading. However I'm currently without since I gave my 4 to my mom (to replace her 2) anticipating a major update with the 5. Then it just ended up being a spec bump and I skipped it. I'll probably get a 6, but only if it is a significant redesign.

I switched from an iPad Pro 9.7 down to a current gen mini and I LOVE it.
Never going back up a class.

The portability and light weight are just superb.
Really excited for a spec bump to the Mini line

Expecting a $100 price bump as well to go with it, that’s what they did with the new iPad Air with the minimal bezel.

I was annoyed that Apple didn’t refresh the Mini alongside last year’s Air, but I suppose it’s all part of their strategy. This way they can announce two new iPads again this fall like last year. iPad 9th gen and iPad Mini 6th gen.

I think it’s funny how people can see all these rumors and still be in denial that Apple will give the Mini a redesign and an Air-equivalent spec bump. How quickly people forget that the Mini isn’t just a smaller basic iPad, it’s a smaller Air. It’s been treated that way for at least three of its iterations. I don’t see this latest refresh being any different.

I’d have to do some mental gymnastics to be able to justify having two iPads, but I am considering it. The Mini is such a great device that I want to see in Apple’s active lineup for many more years. I’ve thought about using the Mini for games and the Air for almost everything else. We’ll see.

Looking forward to the official announcement at least.

🤔

I don‘t see the point of Apple pencil support for the Mini. 😅 A stylus? Yiaks! Nobody wants a stylus! ...Seriously... it‘s a real „hand“held machine... if you want a „desk“top ipad than I’d go with a bigger one anyways.

Apple Pencil support doesn’t make it a desktop experience. It’s even more tablet-like with the Pencil arguably. The Mini 5 has Pencil support too. I don’t think a single person complained about that.

What a strange argument to make.

Looking at that (and considering my own usage) it really shows a standout big usage difference for me: I generally use two hands on the iPad with a thumb as the "stylus". For iPhone 11, it's hold with one hand and complete a few tasks with the same hand or use the completely free hand as the "stylus".
Even with the screen not WAY bigger, it is a different user experience along with more screen area.

If you go waaaaay back, there was someone who denied the existence of the original iPad right up to release day. He (or she) simply couldn’t fathom the idea that Apple was releasing a tablet and was convinced that it was some grand prank. You’ll find that type in every forum.

I wouldn't automatically assume that the new mini won't be longer than the current one. If they give it the same aspect ratio as the pro 11, it might well be longer than 200mm
Having said that, there are rumours of a shorter pencil 2

Would they really refresh the Apple Pencil just to fit the mini, which is a niche product? Wouldn't it make more sense to sell a Pencil specific to the mini?
Yes, I’ve heard the rumour one of both ways:
1. That the new apple pencil 3 is is smaller on purpose.
2. That they’re making an apple pencil specifically for the new mini.

I think it's going to be backward compatible (or interchangeable) this time around.
Do you mean with the older ipad minis or with the other ipads? I would hope so either way.

I'm ready for a this new iPad mini. The mini is very polular in the Aviation Industry.

I’m ready. This will carry me through ground and flight school and fit perfectly in a Pivot case as a knee board. Been holding off trying to be patient.

I means the next pencil will be interchangeable with Pencil 2, with the exception of a perfect fit when attached.

The real next gen Pencil 3 will be different though. Probably we will see it with the Pros next year. Tips have colour sensors, etc. Maybe even an eraser.

"smaller bezels"? I really hope they go the iPad Pro/Air route with almost no bezels. This is especially important for a mini device, you really can't waste display space on an iPad mini.
I'm convinced all those whose pine for no bezels never actually move their device from place to place.

Indeed. My wife and I both have mini 5 models that we mount to the yokes in our plane with a RAM X-Grip. ForeFlight makes everything so easy with IFR plates and easy IFR filing.
