They were going to call it a freaking Maxi Pad? This was a joke, right? Didn't Mad TV already make a joke on this years before the iPad actually came out? :/

Why is the 12.9, which is smaller than 13, look that much bigger than the 13" Air?

Perspective.

Yes, it's big - but considering it would double as a small screen TV, I'd put it on my shopping list.

You touch on a good point there. I've got a TV in my bedroom with a cable box. Since I bit the bullet and decided to use many of the cable channel and on-demand iPad Apps...Guess what? I'm using my iPad as essentially a TV in my bedroom. I haven't turned on my TV in the bedroom in probably three months now. I'm not sure it would ever replace my TV so much as....If Apple made their next iPads remote operable (Maybe via your iPod Touch or iPhone) and come with an AV cable.

Point being I think tablets with their growing entertainment options once filled only by a TV....are possibly going to replace a TV in many rooms of a house.

I'm all for a larger iPad, more storage, capacitive pen input option, Aperture for iOS, Final Cut Pro X for iOS, and a full Photoshop for iOS. Then I won't have to lug around a laptop at all. Now we just need to thunderbolt daisy chain some of those new Mac Pros into a cluster with a large thunderbolt RAID and actual work will go much faster.

Edit: Oh yeah, and if we can have like a Showtime or whatever Apple TV uses mode on iOS, that would be another great addition.

It's awesome! I hope it materializes...it will have many applications.

Plus, in 6 months it will be copied, and then within a year we'll get to laugh at the SamDroids carrying around 3ft tablets that "Apple copied."

Actually... the iPad Mini has a much larger screen than your 5.5" Android phone.
...

I feel bad for your efforts, but you really missed the point of my comment.

I have a 5.5" phone which is portable (sort of). I also have a 4" iPhone 5, which I do not use much, mostly because of the lack of multitasking (which should be remedied by iOS7).

The iPad Mini is too small for regular stuff, but not larger enough than my phone to be worth the purchase.

But my iPad 4 is also a bit too small for reading Zinio magazines, or PDFs, or just browsing the web without constant zooming and panning. So I use my 13" MBA.

A 13" iPad would actually be perfect for these uses. Plus, there are no decent large size tablets, so I can imagine there would be enough demand.

Whatever sizes the iPad comes out in I hope to God you can change the default colors on the interface. That seriously looks awful. How many neon colors can you pack onto a screen?

I see.

I thought you literally meant the iPad Mini was not all that much larger than your Android phone.

Now I understand you meant usage-wise... not physical size.

12.9 is just stupid. I plan on getting a iPad mini when it gets at least the specs of the iPad 3-4 because I am finding the regular iPad too big.

I think that at the larger size it's encroaching on being a laptop replacement. within the market segment it would appeal to it isn't going to be a majority of content consumers, but rather people more focused on creating content, as well as businesses. I think that the lack of accessible file system, small storage size, and lack of desktop/laptop grade software would kill this in the market.

If they can copy dropbox with iCloud, give it a minimum of 4GB of ram, release Final Cut and Logic for it, and get companies like Adobe, Native Instruments, Dassault Systèmes, Pixologic, Avid, Ableton and Intuit to invest in building powerful apps for it from the start, then it could be a huge win, but that is a fairly long list of ifs.

Well, let the iPad "Maxi" rumors begin!

Letter-sized

Standard U.S. letter is 8.5 x 11 in, so 13.9 in diagonal. This 12.9-inch iPad would be closer to the standard size for U.S. documents, which would be great for researchers who have their nose in a paper all day long. :)

Because the MBA needs a touchscreen and the iPad needs to be more than just a consumption device. In other words, a larger iPad that can replace the traditional laptop that is on its way to extinction.

Because why redesign the MBA when you could just introduce a new hybrid iPad that replaces it (with detachable keyboard, iOS & OSX). It could happen next year, could happen in 2015, but happen it will.

Because you'll most likely get it, at least by the 2nd generation.

Agreed.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's becomes Apple's version of the Surface Pro and had a detachable keyboard/cover (hard) or could even dock with it.

Im still shocked at how Apple still hasn't made the iPad a better drawing tablet for Artists.

They should buy WACOM and take them and integrate that group with their iPad division.

Wacom tech with this

If Apple partnered with Wacom on this massive ipad and were able to be use like Wacoms drawing screens and use Pro drawing apps, OMG! I'd buy one with no 2nd guess. And I know many many people would as well. They'd kill the remaining tablet competition.

Yep. It's pretty obvious. Just surprised Apple has let this market just stagnate.

portrait mode with 16x9 sucks. I love browsing the web in portrait mode on the iPad. books and magazines aren't 16x9, neither should this thing be.

You know what is even worse than 16:9 portrait? A 13" tablet in portrait.

A 13" tablet will be mainly used in landscape, making 4:3 pointless.

I would love a 12.9 inch iPad!

But I have to say I can't see why they would change the resolution to 2712x2048 which would require additional support from developers, when they could simply increase it to 3072x2304 which would only require higher resolution assets.

Yes please. I've been dreaming of a 15" model, but this is a big step in the right direction.

Will happily put one at every desk in our firm. Numbers, Keynote, iDraw, Inkpad, Autocad, Inventor Publisher, etc etc etc

But please, please, put a Wacom digitizer in it. This would be an ideal creative tablet first, mobile device... 5th or 6th.

Wow.....!.....

that would be called iPad Max or something like that?....Like the idea, but how about the weight, battery life....?

By the way, nice renderings and compelling ones. If Apple builds them, I come....:D

:):apple:

What the **** am I supposed to do with that?!

This seems like a better idea for an Apple TV. Enter a room, it wakes instantly, you touch an icon for whatever you want to do, and by the time you sit down, it's loaded and running. Much better than the google TV gamepad remote. for touchscreen from your lap, any iOS device can communicate with it.
