Graphics fault - could indicate 6th column?

Since updating to iOS 7 Beta 5, I've been experiencing a graphics glitch which randomly appears and requires me to reboot. The graphics shift a column's worth to the left. Could this glitch be a clue to code supporting that 6th column of icons for a higher rez/bigger-screened iPad? The space the glitch creates is the exact amount required to neatly fit another column of icons ala iPhone 5.

Let's put it this way............

If Apple don't offer consumers tablets with a larger screen size, then other makes (Android, Surface, etc) WILL.

Apple are way way behind in this area on the phones, and people are buying now larger screen mobiles as they like them and want them.

Either Apple get's it's finger out it's butt and makes larger tablets, or, AGAIN they are going to watch others do it, people buy them as they like a larger screen and be left at the back yet again.

Call this baby the iPad Pro, sell a bluetooth gaming controller along side it and I'm sold 100% :)

1. If released, this will be a major blow to 13'' laptop market.
2. Split screen apps will have to be introduced in iOS (arguably they are already needed on full-size iPads).
3. Can't wait for people to shoot photos on that
...
5. Want! :apple:

I don't see the larger one taking on in large numbers. Maybe more for laptop users.

I can't wait until this screen size war is over. I think Jobs was right about the correct sizes for devices. In a few years many will see this.

Making a device larger doesn't make it a better or more innovating device.

Jobs was right. And as soon as Jobs died Apple rushed out the iPad mini. I think this is one of the few cases where Jobs was right.

i just wish they would move the iPad mini (if not the full size iPad) to a 16:9 screen, was watching a movie on it the other day and the black bars are awful, something im not used to being so jarringly obvious, and the theft of the screen real-estate is a shock compared to watching the same movie on an iPhone 5 (it almost feels like the iPhone 5 version is the same size as it is watching it on the iPad mini)

on the Larger screen size iPad "jumbo", i cant see apple doing that unless they merge the Macbook air and iPad lines into a single device, maybe an iPad thats just an iPad until you connect it to an "air" keyboard, the keyboard contains the battery and CPU and its own storage to run full OSX like the existing airs, with a USB 3 and Thunderbolt port, but when undocked the iPad is just an iPad running iOS ?

i Love my iPad mini, the iPad is too large for a portable device, the mini however, fits in my pocket, and i can take it on my commute, tethered to my iPhone its got full internet access all the time, i can read books on the Kindle app, surf the net, and the keyboard is a better size to reply to emails etc..

with the full size iPad i either had to carry it on show all the time and risk someone stealing it, or putting it down because i need my hand and forgetting it, or worse still, needing a "man-bag" to hold it in..

iPad mini, IMO, was the size the iPad should have started with, if you want a larger screened device, the macbook air is sat there at 11"

Now if apple made an iPhone, with a screen size around that of the Samsung Note 2, id only have to carry a single device around.

The 12.9" screen size makes a lot of sense if the weight were the same or less than the current iPad. Better for image rich content like coffee table books, magazines, catalogs, graphic novels/comics, etc. You'd get an experience that was much closer to the printed versions than the current iPad can deliver.

This is a little over the top.

How about a slightly bigger iPhone... instead of a mega-huge iPad...

NO NO NO!!, an iPhone and an iPad are two different things, sure a bigger iPhone would be great.. but we're not discussing iPhones here.

(BTW.. iPad Maxi? Seriously?.. Sounds too much like Maxi Pad)

This comes to my mind when I hear the word "maxi".

I'll take the Air please

If there was a larger iPad, I'd still go for an Air. They have the same battery life (if not better for the Air) and for the price you get more bang for your buck with the Air.

I understand there might be a niche market for a larger iPad, but if one was released I'll choose the Air over this because for couple hundred more (presuming the price would be at least $100 more for each of the larger iPad's storage sizes than the regular iPad) you have a full blown computer with a lot more ram and power.

I've been pricing the regular iPad and MBA now because I would like a portable system and I just cannot justify an iPad (esp. since I would only keep them a few months before ditching.). This is what I would do.

The iPad mini fits in your pocket? Wow you must have gigantic pockets. Mine just fit in my iPhone 1 with case. Also for me holding an iPad mini to your ear (as you do for a phone) would be a little strange. But if you love the mini, fair enough. I can understand this.

For all the people saying they think it'd be a niche market with limited appeal, go back and read this thread.

I can't remember the last time this many MR posters were excited about whatever the rumored device was.

This thing would appeal to creative users (it's 2013, if you still think of iOS as a "content consumption" device, you're off the back), and anyone 50 & over, who appreciate things being bigger and easier to read (not a small demographic).

The iPad mini fits perfectly in the back pocket of all my jeans, the pockets of my cargo shorts, & even swimsuit & MTB baggies. I use it as my phone. It's perfect as a portable device. This big iPad would be more in line with how portable a MBA or smaller MBP is. Still very portable, just not "always on you, everywhere you go, 100% of the time". I don't see why people can't grasp this concept.

Let's face it: a 12.9 iPad would be too heavy, large and uncomfortable as a hand-held device. This would mostly be a desktop device, probably sporting a built-in kickstand.

I see its uses for professionals needing a larger touch-screen tablet, but there's no way anyone could carry, work or hold that beast comfortably in your hand.

The thing is, I suspect many people don't actually stand and hold the iPad in their hands now.

They have it on their lap, propped up on their lap with a hand underneath, on a table, on their bed.
Not actually standing long term just holding it.

dunno, i like it. thou I'd like to see a 16:9ish size rendering

16:10 I think most feel would be better if we were to go a bit wider

Not less comfortably than a 13" MBA

It doesn't look real to me. Too little bezel on the sides.

But the idea of bigger iPad is good; there is a need for every size. People who claim something is too big or too small need to think about what happens if there is just one shoe size at every shoe store.

I hope they go ahead with this. April 2014 release would be great.

I can see people using this instead of a 13" laptop and it would make a fantastic portable TV for all my iTunes content.

Amazing! I can't wait for the 56.7" iPad to come out. I was originally worried that my friends would make fun at me as I got off the bus carrying it, but not anymore! I am now completely comfortable being the jerk holding up his iPad to video the concert...I can be more so with a 12.9" iPad and even more with a 56.7".

My left elbow hurts from holding up my standard iPad, but I can buy a brace for the new bigger one...and Fox News says that exoskeletons are coming one day that can help me hold the 56.7" super-model.

And just imagine the battery life that can be packed into these bigger form factors! Can't Innovate My Ass™

I carry an iPad 3 with me everywhere. I saw a much larger tablet in Japan and although it was a bit heavy, the screen size was great. Just because YOU can understand the reasons why, doesn't mean there aren't reasons why.

People carry 15" laptops with the, everywhere, yet you're saying no to a 13" tablet.

I doubt I'd take it around me, but it would be great for a lap iPad at home, in the office, in class...

The smaller bezel though...you need more space to grip a screen that big.

I am sure there are people that like it, but I prefer the smaller screen. It`s just my opinion :)

I sense some sarcasm here :D

hmmm... seems impressive  and that iOS7 looks awesome on it. i hope apple decides to bring this device to the market, it'd be great to see a bigger iPad.

That's what I was thinking.
A little thicker to accomodate an SSD and a full blown OSX.
Why would it need to be thicker to contain an SSD? The flash memory in the iPads now is effectively an SSD. With the tech Apple gets from Anobit the flash controller is embedded right into the SOC.

As to OS/X maybe, a full blown UNIX tablet has its appeal. However I'd rather they improve iOS to keep it safe as an always connected platform.
Surely that must be possible.
Anything is possible, wise is a different question. Right now the distinction between iOS and Mac OS makes sense. If Apple where to release a Mac Tablet they would have to make sure it doesn't confuse the market.

No, it's in the US too, but most of us tied of the whole Pad, Maxi humor thing. It's in the same category now with "Is safari snappier?"

Safaris is snappier though!

My point was... why would they consider a third screen size for the iPad... when the iPhone is only offered in one?

(3.5" 3:2 screens will be phased out with the next revision... leaving only 4" 16:9 screens)

BTW... I can discuss anything I want here... it certainly got your attention :)
