The original iPad had sharper edges than the current Pro models. (I own both original and current.)

I respectfully disagree. It's the machined chamfer that I find abrasive and uncomfortable. I love my Apple products, and I realise life isn't perfect, but I've always been baffled by the decision to include a hard metal machined edge on a tablet that people hold for extended periods with soft fleshy hands. It's nonsensical in my opinion and I will not buy another iPad until it's addressed.

I'm sure Apple won't fall though because of my choice, and it doesn't mean I want Cook sacked or any other such childish, hyperbolic nonsense :)

Seriously, whats with everything being labelled as "Pro"? The only item Pro about most Apple hardware these days is the Price Tag!

Does having pencil support and a connector that gives extended functionality really make an iPad a "Pro" device??

Pro is a marketing term I think . It has no definition for computer hardware. Just like light stuff doesn't necessarily make you slim and smart stuff doesn't mean the purchase itself is smart.

A larger iPad does not make it more pro or premium. The apps on iPad are simplified dumbed down versions of the applications pros use, and that is by Apples choice. Without mouse support iPad Pro can't be used for professionals. Doesn't matter how more powerful the processor is, using a crippled touch only interface limits how professional the apps will be. If you can't develop apps on a pro product, it's not pro, period.

Apple doesn't want to blur the lines between Macs and iPads so they can make iPads as large or powerful as they want, they are still casual devices for hipster posers and won't sell well until Apple swallows pride and embraces a new paradigm iPad will remain a weak product line.

And wtf, does Tim Cook just throw darts these days for "new" product features?
If you add a mouse to an iPad you might as well just get a laptop at that point so it's not the answer. I use my iPad exclusively 100 percent of the time at home for everything. It's replaced my iMac. At work I edit on a 5k iMac. But for most people all you need at home is an iPad for web, music, photos, video. More and more people are now using it for TV through their providers. Hell millions use their phone as their lrimary devices for everything too. Computers for home use is dying, plain and simple.

I never really looked at my 9.7" iPP that closely BUT now that I have it is pretty sharp ... not sure what Apple could do to make sure the Silicone Case stays in place.

Anybody have any guesses on resolution should this be true? Apple usually tries to keep it simple for developers so maybe the same pixel density as the iPad mini but at 3x instead of 2x? What resolution would that end up at?

you have a flare for the dramatic. "sleazy psychological manipulation" now i've heard it all.

If you would step back and view Apple objectively, you’d see that they use simple psychological tricks to upsell more expensive products. It’s sleazy no matter who does it, but it used to be beneath Apple.

...I don't get the point of Windows 'Tablet Mode'....

Off topic, but I don't get the point of Windows, period.

I was earlier enjoying a fantastic gunfight in Crysis 2, when it CRASHED to the desktop, so that Windows could pop-up a dialogue box asking me what Windows Defender files to send to Microsoft. I mean seriously? Hahaha!

Laughable operating system that is borderline malware these days. Unfortunately I need it on my gaming PC.

Am I the only one who DOESN'T want to buy a bezel-less iPad? I get enough fingerprints from touching my iPad, but the bezels offer a "cleaner" experience if I have something to hold on to.

I would say a bezel-less iPhone makes more sense as I don't hold the phone in the same manner, usually by the edges but the edges of my phone are enclosed in a case.

Yep exactly. Unaware customers think they are getting a better product than they are actually buying.

How do people come up with such FUD?
How do you not notice the number #1 problem with allowing Apps from outside sources? Did you miss the amount of malware on Android and Windows which mostly comes from software outside its respectful App Stores? Don't underestimate consumer stupidity.
'Cause Apple's Chief Hoodwinker Cook said so.
iOS was always under lock down even before Cook became CEO. Pathetic comment is pathetic.

The only reason I'm not going to upgrade my iPad Air to any new iPad, because it runs in most cases just stretched iPhone UI. For example notifications on the lock screen. Complete rubbish.

Yep. But Apple are still set in their ways of 0 innovation so they can't pull their fingers out of their figurative a**es long enough to realise iOS needs serious work before it can be considered even close to a 'Pro' set up. It's missing basic 'Pro' features. iPad needed a special version of iOS from the start, one with more features to take advantage of bigger screens and added features for productivity. Why has nobody at Apple thought of that? Or do they just not care?

The iPad is a laughing stock in the Pro mobile market. Because it's a giant iPhone still, worst still - a giant iPod touch.

Okay it is the "no child left behind" theory of computing. I get it now. Have an expert mode button that gives a warning.

Apple needs to take the iPad to the next level. It's nice to get rid of bezels, but 10.1 or 9.7 doesn't matter.

What we need is something really thin (1 mm), very light weight and quite large. Something that can replace a paper magazine or a newspaper.

I think that's called Jailbreaking in our ecosystem.

An official way of side loading applications would be nice.

You can now install apps on your ios device freely via Xcode but you need the source code for that.

Apple want to control everything on iOS. It would like to for Mac OS, but it's way too late for that.

I genuinely don't understand why they keep upgrading specs and screen sizes. Tablets are primarily used as consuming devices. Easy and minimal input to watch Tv/ movies, play games, read and Internet.

For productivity you need a fully fledged computer either desktop or laptop with a full range of input devices and a processor/ GPI that was designed for creation.

Keep the iPad simple, cheaper and with high capacity memory, that's what most consumers need.
Yes, Apple is one of the rare companies that can get away with such huge profit margins while the rest of the retail world struggles with competition and slim margins. But people here love to throw out the "businesses are in business to make money" gernalization like that somehow is an excuse for Apple to rip people off.
apple is not ripping anybody off. Apple sells things at an inflated price that people are willing to pay. Apple has a very liberal return policy. If someone feels that they didn't get there monies worth they can take it back for any reason.

Remember when there was just simply the iPad and the iPhone? I'm even cool with the iPad mini, but all these different sizes and iterations is getting ridiculous. Apple has lost the plot.

I'm using a 1st gen iPad Air. It was getting a little laggy after installing ios10, but after a full reset and setting it up as a new iPad it's running well. I'm not sure why I need a new iPad. I guess I'd consider a 10.5" with small bezels IF it did not weigh more than my current one.

Apple needs something innovative. Removing the headphone jack won't sell their next iPad. I'm also still using a sandy bridge MacBook Air and a iPhone 5s.

What a lot of people have alluded to with the 'I want MacOS on my iPad' remarks isn't anything necessarily with the input method as such but more to do with software to get stuff done.

For example there are a ton of professions in the creative industries that just cannot fully adopt the iPad in it's current form. Photoshop on the iPad is rubbish(Yes, I am aware of a ton of iOS alternatives which are nearly there), Dreamweaver doesn't exist or anything close to it on the iPad. Unity for game development or something similar doesn't exist. Xcode doesn't exist but there is a company that has done a 'sort of works' app to get things going. 3D creative fields like Maya, Modo, Cinema 4D don't have anything similar on the iPad. I could go on but you get the picture.

iOS in general doesn't allow apps to work together nearly well enough to do proper multi tasking and flipping around.

Work is generally limited to word processing - which personally I enjoy more on the iPad, weirdly. Art and drawing is fun on the iPad. Organising, note taking are Ok. And thats about it.

Until some good developers start to fill the void that is the pro creative market the iPad Pro will remain a very well made consumer entertainment device with a few niches in the writing and art fields.
