Apple Pay having 75% of all contactless payments

What an incredibly worthless statistic ... JUST more rhetoric from Apple's Chief Hoodwinker Cook. The banks are just starting to issue chip and pin cards (not contactless pay cards) so AP is the only game in the US ... the merchant uptake of contactless POS terminals is slower than molasses at -50 degrees.

That knockout Apple Pay is hardly world wide with financial institutions in ONLY 11 countries signed on after 2 years since Apple offered the service.

Folks, don't get fooled by bull in the china shop data from the ecosystem.

Are you capable of comprehension and are you able of following a thought? It seems the answer is no.

Now you twisted that and asking a nonsense compared to what I was replying to.

I can comprehend perfectly what is stated clearly. Clearly, by your response, you meant something different than how I took it, yet after re-reading it, your responses still mean the same to me. Maybe you could have stated things more clearly...?

I don't really care though, as now you seem to be angered.

My guess is there will be a 9.7" IPad SE for 399$. A9, Wide Color Display (maybe), thinner/lighter/less bezels, no Smart Connector/Pencil. This will take the spot of the iPad Mini. The iPad Mini 4 will still be sold for 299.

Yeah, but at that point, just buy a MacBook and an iPad. People basically want a MacBook with a detachable screen. Which seems like a very poor compromise. Honestly, I agree with Apple when they say the Surface Book is a poorly designed interface. It's a great computer sure, and having it work as a tablet is fine. But, but, but....

Who actually users the 'Tablet Mode' or a Surface Pro the same way the use an iPad. People want a touch screen for macOS but why? I truly don't get the value added, just as I don't get the point of Windows 'Tablet Mode'....

I actually use my Surface Pro 3 in tablet mode about 70 percent of the time. Is it as good as the iPad in tablet mode? Nope! But there are things I can do with the Surface Pro 3 in both tablet mode and with the type cover that I can't do with the iPad because the iPad has IOS.

So, it applies to a specific purpose that many who use an iPad could care less about? Oh crap, Apple should ditch their design right away for this limited segment of users. I don't need a mouse if I can touch the screen for what I want to do. It's a touch device and, get this, it's a mobile device. I've owned an iPad since day one in 2010 and I've ever used a keyboard let alone a mouse.
Why yes, I am quite stupid but I was still able to retire after a successful career and I live a nice, comfortable life. You don't have the goods to call someone stupid son.
While I disagree with you on your assessment for a need for a mouse on an iPad (at least for me... If it works for you, it works for you), you're spot on with your last paragraph. My belief is that when a person starts calling people names, they've run out of ammo in the argument.

Because i want touch and small form factor without keyboard. Don't need keyboard all the time but having access to full ms office software would be great.
Love your avatar!

So now there is "Pro", and "high-end Pro". Hmm
How about "Pro" and "Pro-er?"

iPads and iPhones are the future, my dear Macrumors friends. The Laptop market is shrinking and shrinking, don't you know that? Now just accept this and stop whining.

This theory is not based on iPad sales from any recent time, is it?

What Apple really needs to do is focus on iOS for iPads. Currently there is so much wasted screen real estate. The app icons are too small. And notifications are tiny compared to the size of the screen. If Apple believes mobile computing is the future, then they need to show us. Because right now the iPad is just an oversized iPhone.

Something does not add up: it cannot have an A9 chip because its predecessor, the A8X, has superior graphics horsepower (8-core vs 6-core).

Either this mythical iPad Air 3 is going to be $299 (cheaper than an Air 2), or it will have an A9X chip and reserve the A9/A10 for an iPad mini 5 in the Fall. It just cannot have an A9 and go backwards in terms of graphics.

That's my Number 1 complaint.

I hate that at Apple, small size now means older and less capable hardware. Buy a 21" iMac (my preference) and you're stuck with integrated graphics. Buy an iPhone SE (which I own) and you get old hardware. And now with the iPad. This sucks.

Apple does this deliberately to coerce you into getting the more expensive model. It’s sleazy psychological manipulation, and the primary reason I have stopped buying Apple products.

"When Jobs took the reins as interim CEO in July of 1997, Apple was making more than 350 different products, many of which seemed redundant, expensive, and outdated. In order to get the company focused on making better products that made more sense to consumers, he cut that number down to just 10. He knew that in order for the company that he co-founded to survive, it needed to be leaner and more focused, than it had been under previous CEO Gil Amelio.

At the core of the new line-up were four products, a consumer laptop and desktop, as well as a laptop and desktop designed for professionals. Each of those computers had various configurations of course, but as far as Apple was concerned, the product line remained extremely streamlined and simple. This allowed the company to focus on new technology and design, which resulted in the first iMac, a computer that made waves due to its unique looks, and shift away from traditional IO ports in favor of USB – something that was radical at the time."

Maybe those bloggers ought to be on apples board and they can run the company. The markets have change in the last 6 years and apple has to adapt. Apple will always be a prime target for pot-shots. They listen to the customers, and this is what their customers want. And you know what they say about opinions....

A larger iPad does not make it more pro or premium. The apps on iPad are simplified dumbed down versions of the applications pros use, and that is by Apples choice. Without mouse support iPad Pro can't be used for professionals. Doesn't matter how more powerful the processor is, using a crippled touch only interface limits how professional the apps will be. If you can't develop apps on a pro product, it's not pro, period.

Apple doesn't want to blur the lines between Macs and iPads so they can make iPads as large or powerful as they want, they are still casual devices for hipster posers and won't sell well until Apple swallows pride and embraces a new paradigm iPad will remain a weak product line.

And wtf, does Tim Cook just throw darts these days for "new" product features?

Just want to say, the current iPads do exactly the same thing the 2010 iPads did. It almost added 0 extra functionality or benefit (function not spec).

How about a more "capable" iPads? instead of a different screen size.

I agree ... my 12.9 is a powerhouse but I can't do much with it because iOS is so limiting

I've no idea what iPad to buy these days and I've needed a replacement for a while now. Adding different sizes is not helping this to become clearer.
Surely doing some research is not too difficult?
Or do you require your decisions to be spoon fed to you?
Read about the devices, try them out, work out which is the best for your needs.
Adding different sizes gives you more choice. Not a bad thing.

you have a flare for the dramatic. "sleazy psychological manipulation" now i've heard it all.
[doublepost=1483892704][/doublepost]I personally am not looking for the ipad to be more productive, but to serve me content even better. I'm looking forward to a larger screen personally as the 9.7" dimensions are close to perfect. I think it can be a little bigger if they wanted to but the 12.9" is just too big for me.

Steve Jobs said the iPad as something that fit between iPhones and MBs. Even back then, it was a bit of sales pitch to position it.
Now, it's positioned as a "Super. Computer."
When you begin to compare it to laptop alternatives, you can get quite a bit for the money.

I'm not sure what Apple knows where it's going, but the whole blurring of iOS and Mac OS is a bit puzzling to me. It seems as if Apple isn't quite sure where it wants to hedge it's bet.

If your opinion is true, then that is exactly what they are doing. Businesses are in business for EVERYONE, not just those with deep wallets. Imagine a world where businesses opted for only high-end product with higher margins and completely rid themselves of the cheaper options. Would that seem fair?
Business is not fair, how did you come by that conception?
Perhaps a lot of poor people in your area drive Aston Martin cars and use a Rolex to tell the time? Apple used to compare themselves to Mercedes Benz and BMW, I never heard them say "We want to be the Volkswagen of digital lifestyle products"

You do realize the whole purpose of iOS is to get away from peripherals, right? It's a touch based operating system. macOS is not. It never was intended to be and it never will be. When are people going to understand macOS will NEVER be emulated or ported to an iOS device? If you want a portable device that gives you trackpad capabilities, Apple has a whole line available. It's called their MacBook. It's a lot easier to take iOS functionality and bring it to macOS. You can't do it the other way around. Notifications, handoff, apps, etc; those all started from iOS and went to macOS. Not the other way around.

The problem with this argument is that Apple HAS released peripheral devices for them with the smart keyboards, basically allowing one to turn their iPad into a simple laptop. It would be trivial to allow the edition of a mouse cursor while using the smart keyboard which would not pollute the OS and allow it to work as is without it. Remember, Cook himself is the one who said an iPad could replace a computer for a lot of people. A mouse or trackpad just helps out with that thought.

I simply cannot imagine a world where businesses only opted for high-end and/or higher margin even though those two things do not always correlate.

That is totally, 100% unfair. They should make high-end products and sell them at the lowest possible price so that everyone can enjoy them. Or they should just give away what they make.

Your profile says you are based on "Earth"... perhaps in a parallel universe? :)
