why can't they at LEAST make it the form factor of the 6 series.

If you want the form factor of the 6 series, just buy the 6 series. There are good deals around.

Still prefer the SE while I wait to see what Apple does with models this year, but it's looking like I will sit on the SE. IMO we're at peak smartphone. I will need something special or specific to leave the SE.

4.2"? If my SE died, then OK but I'm not seeing justification for the constant, expensive, laborious yearning for "better." I have big screens everywhere else and I'm using swipe typing so easily, right now as a matter of fact.

I disagree. Actually there are a few reasons why people may have chosen the SE over other iPhones....

  1. Headphone Jack
  2. Flush rear camera
  3. "Classic" design
  4. Price
  5. Size
The weight of importance for each of these is highly subjective and dependent upon the needs/wishes of the individual.

For some segment of the SE customer base it is size, but not all... without a scientifically controlled poll we won't truly know what percentage that is.

It was the whole package (all 5 reasons) that brought me back to an iPhone. Having said that, I understand I'm pretty unique. :)
1. Price
2. Size
3. Durability

Multiply x 3 for household. If it isn’t under $400 I refuse to buy it. If it doesn’t easily fit in a pocket, then nope.

There, you are grossly incorrect sir. The lower price is icing on the cake on top of offering a footprint and feature set that’s vastly preferred by many users such as myself. I purchase a phone as a usable device, I shop first for the features I want and need, then See if the price justifies. It’s a win/win that the SE 2 comes in on the low-end of pricing, being that it’s still a powerful phone with certain buttons and Jacks organized in a way that is most convenient for me. I don’t shop for a phone to be a showpiece. I’m no longer 14 and that shallow. :)
Preferred features. Oh sure. You just have to avoid listing the negative things and your purchase will be justified.

Negatives like what? It doesn’t help the owner to fly? The viewable area doesn’t wrap around the edges for bezelless nirvana, forgoing the ability to use a case to address the iphone’s fragility design flaw?

You and Apple management grossly fail to realize how one person’s features can be another person’s mis-prioritization to the point of caricature. Or how one person's must-have is another’s not-want and don’t-need. A “Pro” laptop with 3 measly ports and non-expandability? That’s unsustainable, but coming from a “great designer” who designed the ideal Christmas tree as a cold, silvery, shadowy monochromatic minimalist wonderland, it’s no surprise.

Give me a iPhone SE with edge to edge OLED

What about those who need a case to protect their phone and address the fragility design flaw? No-bezel is a major shortcoming to many.

You sir, are incorrect on two counts. Number one, the SE and SE 2 are not cheap. Number two, many people like myself do not want to pay $1000 for any phone.

It's cheap as for as Apple phones go. I thought that point was obvious.

Ha ha good point. Relatively cheap vs. over-paying $1000 for a phone, you are correct! Just like my 2014 MacBook Air is relatively the most expandable laptop Apple has ever produced in the last 4 years.

My next phone will be whatever SE they crank out. It does seem possible to increase screen size within the existing case size, so if that happens it would be a nice improvement. But otherwise, just make it faster and more memory.

There are a number of us who use iPads for most tasks, and the phone is just for calls, taking photos or listening to podcasts/music, so a larger case is not desirable. Tried the 6 and got rid of it, too big. This one fits in small pockets, which is where it lives most of the time. Weren’t there some problems at first with the bigger phones flexing in people’s back pockets? Not a prob with the SE.

, which would make sense given it's a lower-end device.

huh? "Lower-end"? The SE is Apple's flagship phone. Amazing form factor, squared edges that can be held without rocking, an actual headphone jack, no distracting 3D Touch, no protruding camera lens that makes it impossible to lay flat on a desk, a lock button that is not inappropriately located across from the volume buttons, a weight that makes it feel premium instead of like lightweight junk, and it fits in my jeans pocket and can be used with one hand. There is no better iPhone at any price.

This is possibly fantastic.
I want as little design change as possible and really just a spec bump.

If they keep the same case, the headphone jack, etc and just updated the internals and possibly the screen a bit = total winner in my book.

Amen. Let's keep Apple's flagship phone the world leader in design and functionality!

To those with the car analogies at the beginning of the thread... while the SE may be a Camry, if you ask us SE lovers, the 8/X aren't 911s, they're F-150s...

Indeed..and I'm constantly in a crowded city needing to run errands and park

The lastest rumor it may be release in March... again! I hope it not a budget specs SE2!

It will sell for $349 or less... we’ll see how much Apple can spec bump it and still keep BOM cost (reasonably) under control.

I don’t expect anything more than an A10, a 5-7 MP front camera and maybe TouchID 2. Those expecting an iPhone 8 “Minus” will be disappointed; that would be priced at $599 and that’s not the purpose of the SE in Apple’s lineup.

Yes, there are a few million customers who prefer the SE because of size not price, but most of the SE volume is due to it being the most affordable iPhone.

Does Apple have an event planned for March? My wife has been waiting for the SE refresh but her phone isn’t doing so well anymore.

If the SE2 refresh retains the same design which debuted with the iPhone 5S with simply a larger screen, I will be deeply disappointed at the lack of innovation from Apple.

There is news of three X-like models later in the year. The 5/5S/SE design is a special one. It has an iconic image. I strongly doubt the need to innovate with this particular one.
