While I agree that the SE is a nice phone, I think that paying less for a product often result in a higher satisfaction because a lot of people will lower their expectations.

If I paid $1000 for a phone I expect it to be perfect, the slightest problem and I become dissatisfied. Maybe because I'd be trying to justify the price and issues are really not helping. If I paid half that price I'd be more willing to overlook a few problems.
That is generally true but not really applicable to Apple products. People are paying $1000+ for a phone with a notch. Not only are customers delighted with the notch, they think it is better than having bezels. :)

Don't understand the SE love. It's like being in love with a Toyota Camry instead of a Porsche 911.

No, it’s like being in love with the form factor of an old 911 vs. a new 911. In fact, an old form factor with modern internals is a bit like a Singer 911, which happens to be my dream car.

I’d pay $1000 for an SE with the X’s internals tomorrow.

The SE is at a cross roads, its a small inexpensive phone that lacked the premium features. Does apple increase the size, features (and price)? Do they keep the form factor, and just make it faster?
I think the only reason they keep the 5-series form factor is that there are a lot of Enterprise functions that were design specific. For example the handheld POS terminals Apple itself uses in stores are still 5-series form factor attachments.. and light googling shows nobody is really stepping up with a 6-series replacement even after 4 years.

In the Corporate world, companies bought 5c devices and 5-series devices as long as they could. It was a whole “corporate pecking order” mess if someone gets even a slightly better iPhone 6 instead of an SE... still. Companies buy them 100 at a time, so it’s a larger market then it appears.

If we're talking size (and not tech), I would say the 6,7,8 and + versions are like an SUV  and the SE is like a 911. I have a 6 and it's too big. Held a SE the other day and put it in my pocket...It was glorious. Give me the tech in a small form factor. Isn't that what Apple loves to do?

A Camry is a wonderful daily driver for that - A Porsche 911 is not

A 911 is a great daily driver, did so for 11 years. :)

My SE2 wishlist :

: 2nd gen Touch-ID
: 3GB Ram
: 7 MP Front Facing Camera
: Display with TT and wide, DCI-P3 color gamut
: wireless Charging
: Stereo speakers
: A11 bionic chip
But that’s a $599 phone, not a $349 phone.

The SE is the lowest priced phone in the lineup, the SE2 isn’t going to change that.

A10, 5 or 7MP front camera, maybe TouchID 2 if it doesn’t add (much) cost. That’s all I expect. Maybe a price cut to $329. Maybe the current SE stays with a price cut to $299.

I think Apple should have two different SE models! One for the North America market and another for the rest of the world.

SE2 -NA would get 4GB RAM LPDDR5, A12, 1080p screen resolution, state of art camera and 128GB and 256GB storage. sell for $800-$900 U.S.

SE-2 - Intl would get 2GB of LPDDR3, A10, same 720i screen resolution, slightly improve camera and 64GB and 128GB storage. sell for $500-$600 U.S.

I can’t see them upgrading the SE 2 to an A11 given it’s the current generation chip in a $1,000 phone and maintaining a sub $350 price point.

I am pretty confident in it being an A10 and if possible, I don’t know if the physics allow it, an A10x that’s in the current iPad Pro would make this a phone suitable for another 3 years.

Personally speaking I want the smaller phone to put in a small pouch under my biking saddle, the new ones don’t fit.
The 10X would not be the right SoC to used on an iPhone! It more a graphic intense based chipset.

How about only one model - 3GB RAM, A11, slightly larger LCD display with FaceID, camera from iPhone 8, 64GB and 256GB storage. sell for $600-750 US. Larger 6.1” iPhone 9 would sell for $700-850 US.

Not that I have any issue with it, but how much time do you dedicate to these kinds of posts?

It varies. Simple edits like the one you responded to can take a few minutes while animations can take half an hour to an hour.

To that end, I’d rather have a phone directly out of the box that doesn’t have a 75% chance of shattering on the first drop, rather than one that’s waterproof out of the box.

Indeed! Glass is a stupid material to use in phones! I want phones made in a material that actually DOESN'T need a thick case for protection to survive a little drop.

I'd love to see a return of the 5c form factor but with updated internals.

Oh man. I worked in a phone store back the. Easily the most comfey phone to hold ever. Hated the sharp edges of the 5/5S
[doublepost=1519206116][/doublepost]Can’t wait for this to come out with no headphone jack and watch everyone lose their minds.
[doublepost=1519206164][/doublepost]4.2” may be a pretty good sweet spot.

The iPad mini needs some love too.

Sorry dude. Pretty sure they’re going the way of the headphone jack.

Agreed, accept that I would call the SE the MR2 of toyotas and the 6/7/8/X more like that overstuffed Porche SUV thingy.

For some reason I think the rumoured 6.1" LCD and the 4.2" LCD will both be under the iPhone SE brand.

Basically Apple will position iPhone SE as their "affordable" iPhone Lineup. And both likely feature a design derived from iPhone 5. Since it is the easiest to manufacture, compared to iPhone 6/7/8 or iPhone 4.

iPhone 8 and iPhone SE, Apple Watch, even the older iPad Mini had the exact same PPI. Both 6.1" and 4.2" does not fit into the current PPI and Aspect Ratio ( 16 or 19.5 : 9 ).

The A10 uses PowerVR GPU, I wonder if Apple might still want to use that for its newer iphone?

I continue to think iPhone SE is an good candidate for Apple to test SoC with Modem integration. If Apple ever wanted to go down that path.

Not thr right analogy

More like being in Love with a camry ( small, Automatic transmission, ergonomic, reliable) than with an SUV ( large, powerful, maunual shft , clunky, beautiful)

Repeat until Apple heR this

1 hand good 2 hands bad

Meh. The company can't figure out how to move forward to just dredge up the past.

Can I ask this: Are you saying there’s not even a chance at some point to reach a level where certain further refinements are so very marginal and slight that they are more perfume on a pig and/or like rearranging of deck chairs on the Titanic?

Is it pretty awful that the black and white tuxedo or little black dress hasn’t much advanced in the last 100 years?

Adhering to the thought that there must, must be change every 12 months opens the door way too wide for change for the sake of change with a complete blind eye to any user-experience detriment, something Apple is way, way too guilty of now since around 2013.

Would you agree even partially, or not at all?

I don't know about "perfect," although I'm a fan- had a 4s, went to 6, and then went to an SE because it always felt like the 6 was trying to flip out of my hand. I'm still holding out hope that they take an iPhone X and just chop off 1.5" from the top. This would result in about a 4.2" display with even better one-handed usability than the SE as it would lack the "chin" and "forehead" of classic iPhones- but you'd gain the easier-to-type-on wider keyboard of these newer ginormous iPhones. The amount of icons on the home grid of apps would remain the same as the SE, but they'd be a little larger and more luxuriously spaced. If they had to axe the headphone jack for a wee lil' edge-to-edge marvel like I've outlined here, I'd be all about it.

Had the iPhone 5, later went to an Android 4.7" and later to an iPhone 6+... in the end, went back to iPhone SE.

The footprint of the iPhone SE is ideal (gotta admit, Jobs was right). The screen size, within the boundaries of the metal frame maybe could be a little bit bigger, but I like Touch ID and a flat rear camera. Also, no notch, thanks.
[doublepost=1519224966][/doublepost]Yeah, faster touch ID, better rear camera (keep it flat), a newer processor and if possible, smaller bezels on screen panel. Wouldn't change much more tbh. Ah, and keep the damn 3.5 mm jack, that's a dealbreaker.
