Stay positive - If they kept the same casing, it's fairly likely that headphone jack would still be there.
But to your point - If they did slight tweak the case and make the screen a touch larger I predict the headphone jack will be gone.

Not necessarily. They removed the headphone jack on the iPhone 7's, which basically use iPhone 6 and 6s cases with different color schemes...

Don't understand the SE love. It's like being in love with a Toyota Camry instead of a Porsche 911.

Car analogies are not always the most appropriately conveyed on Macrumors. The iPhone SE is favored because of the one-handed use and smaller form factor that’s not obtrusive in the pocket. Not Everybody cares about a larger display or latest technology.

If any iPhone needs to go full screen like the X it's the tiny SE. It's just begging for a full screen version, keeping the phone dimensions the same. But perhaps the dimensions of the SE can't cram in all the necessary components needed to run Face ID & stuff.

ugh, why would anyone buy that thing but if they HAVE to, why can't they at LEAST make it the form factor of the 6 series. What's the point in keeping with that 5 series?!

If you want the form factor of the 6 series, the 7 series is still available for sale today. Heck, even the iPhone 8 is almost identical in dimensions to the 6/7 series. So Apple already has that market covered by two models.

The whole point of the iPhone SE was for those people who did not want a phone with the form factor of the 6/7/8 series because they found that form factor too large, too inconvenient, too whatever. Updating the CPU/GPU and camera to iPhone 7 levels would be a nice upgrade for existing iPhone SE customers who bought their phones up to two years ago are ready for an upgrade replacement.

I would love for this to be true. I'm still rocking a battery case I bought for my 5S and use very occasionally for trips -- so pleased to not have to replace it since it still works perfectly. Getting to use it for a THIRD iPhone would be awesome.

Every time the form factor of something like this changes, think about all the crap that piles into landfills.

Also I love having a phone with a headphone jack.

Very true, however that was a flagship phone at the time they did that.

Apple seems to want to spend as little as possible on the SE, at least so far.
Any change in casing (to not have a jack) is more expensive than not doing it at all.

The bands on the top and bottom never made sense to me. If you're going to do that, why include glass for only those small portions? Looks so choppy and aesthetically so much more poor than the x design.

People buy “that thing” precisely because it’s NOT the form factor of the 6 series. Some people detest bulky devices with large screens that can’t comfortably fit in a hand or pocket. There is a substantial subset of iPhone users who prefer their smartphone be a compact device that can be easily used with one hand.

*sigh*

If this is true I think they're going to ruin it. I hope not. But it wouldn't surprise me.

The sad thing is, if they dropped the headphone socket and made the screen larger I'd probably still like it better than the other iPhones.

The form factor of 6 is ugly as hell IN MY OPINION. Therefore your opinion ≠ truth.

They removed the headphone jack so they can add water resistance to the phone. They also got rid of the real home button in the 7.

Some of us like to be efficient and discrete and run errands around town.
A Camry is a wonderful daily driver for that - A Porsche 911 is not
You mean discreet?

It's a phone...not a car. You can be discreet with an iPhone X too.

And the Camry is about as boring as it gets.

Unfortunately, that's not always true. If the jack costs 5¢ plus labor, so call it 10¢, and a new bottom grill costs $10k to remake the mold without a hole, your break even point is 100,000 phones.

If it has a headphone jack, I have a feeling that my wife will want to upgrade from her iPhone X. If it doesn't have a headphone jack, I guess she'll keep the X, and you'll have to pry the SE1 from my cold, dead, hands.

Let's hope you're wrong and they are lazy and don't want to change the tooling and they keep that headphone jack!
It will be a really big bummer if they nix that jack - I use it a TON and in many contexts..

I'd probably need to buy 5 or 6 dongles and keep them in a variety of places if they do remove it....which is probably why they'd remove it.

Bean Counter Tim loves to bump accessory sales by removing useful things.

If the casing is changed, then I don’t believe the 3.5 Jack will exist. It’s also a gateway for Apple to encourage the AirPods as well. Which is not to say the 3.5 mm Jack is not appreciated, but the AirPods are an excellent device for a Bluetooth alternative.

I agree. I'm saying it sticks with a 4" LCD. Same design LCD as iPhone 8 but 4". New internals, BT 5.0 and no 3.5 jack. Going to sell like wildfire, and have huge margins. :apple:

I prefer the rectangle design of iPhone 4 - 5S / SE, it’s such a classic Apple look. The new razor thin and tapered edges on the sides and corners of the iPhone 6S - now, look so much like the competition.

I want them to go back to this look. We’ll get more battery space and it be will so much easier to pick up.

That being said, Apple needs to make up their mind. You can’t have multiple versions of a product in an already oversaturated market. Apple is making the same mistakes of the 80s and 90s. Didn’t Steve, when he took over, drastically slim down their lineup? And it saved the company. Tim really doesn’t have a clue.

I had a 6. I ditched it for the SE. Because I far prefer the form factor of the 5/SE series. I could have bought a 7, 8 or X. I prefer both the size and form factor of the SE. I chose it. I prefer the flat edges, the flush camera, the power button on top, the headphone socket still existing, the home button... I even find the bezels useful. That's why I would buy it, and that's the point of not making it a 6-style form factor, as far as I'm concerned.

Never thought that screen size was so small after I bought iPhone 8 plus. I always laugh at how the screen is really tiny now in my eyes and really cramped every time I look at it once in a while.

It should be called iPhone FSE. Fun-Size Edition.

Agreed, although I care about the latest technology, which is why I'd like to see an SE update. Indeed, I'd like to see an SE update with more than just tech apple is moving past. I don't want an SUV - I want a sports car, but I want that sports car to have the latest bells and whistles.
