You're suggesting that the price is too high for what it is? My parents bought our first Mac (SE) in 1990 for $3500. The Vision Pro is 10,000 times more powerful.
No one is suggesting this. It’s too expensive period. Most people don’t have $3500 plus tax to spend on a luxurious and unnecessary item. Apple Watch Edition gold for $10k is a good analogy - see how well that sold.

I was very excited about the Vision Pro when it was announced and in the months since. I was particularly excited by the ability to use what’s essentially an iPad in a way that is accessible to someone like myself with fine motor skill issues. Unfortunately, the excitement wore off really quickly when I realized that I wouldn’t be able to use the Vision Pro after all, since no company today makes corrective lenses for VR headsets that go past (-16) when it comes to the sphere measurement (my measurement is (-18)).
Start eating more carrots to improve your vision.

Seriously, though... let's wait for the announcement - maybe Apple will have better support for corrective lenses than the others do.

I know a few people with a Quest 2, and they all quit using it after a couple months when the newness wore off. I suspect this will be similar.
The quest 2 is purely an entertainment device. I have one, it is great for games, I use it occasionally. But I also have an Xbox collecting dust, because it is competing for the same time slot (Playing video games.) Vision Pro is not a gaming device, and not even an entertainment device. It is competing against the Apple Studio Display. Except it is an Apple Studio display, with an iPad Pro built in, along with the ability to use it anywhere in your house and not be tethered to one specific desk where you installed it.

No, the suggestion is that it's cost vs. usage; the math doesn't work out for most people. Same reason I drive a regular car vs. a sportscar. A Porsche Cayenne might be more powerful, a better ride, and more luxurious than my VW, but it's not worth it to me, even though I can afford it.

Then why is anyone thinking it's going to be a mass-market device? The Studio Display isn't mass market, the iPad Pro isn't mass market, desktop Macs aren't mass market (compared to laptops).

This a niche device for a niche audience, especially at the price they are asking.

I thought Apple Fan Boys bought anything that Apple produced? I'm confused now.

See, you're confused because you thought wrong.

Most Apple fans I know - including myself - are extremely demanding and critical of Apple's products.

That doesn't mean we can't be excited about them too.

You should see what the Apple fan boys said about iPod.

My 2019 MBP cost nearly $3,100 - obsoleted from today’s Mac mini.
ou can buy a nice projector tv 4k or the price of these goggles.
This thing has two 4K displays in it.

Nah - it is already going to easily sell out of the initial run just for the "wow" factor, and being the first standalone apple product released since the iPad (Apple Watch is an iPhone accessory, still.) Having the ability to have a completely clear desk with a macbook pro on it, then just put on your headset and get your safari windows automatically floating above your desk surface and a 50" mac display in the center will be enough to get people trying it out, even at the insane price point. That plus the starbucks surfing crowd looking to show off their $3.5k headset while they write their next self-published novel.

This device needs people actually willing to use it for work to buy it to propel it forward as a platform, not swifties looking to drop $5k on taylor merch gimmicks. The Vision Pro is being marketed as a productivity device, entertainment is currently just a bonus feature.

The really interesting thing about Vision Pro is that it is the first proper look we get at spatial computing, which is going to be a big part of the future in one way or another.

Being able to consume, create, and manipulate information in a spatial environments opens possibilities that we could only dream about until now.

Now, whether this is the right product or how soon this computing paradigm will break through remains to be seen, but the direction is clear.

The original Mac was introduced January 24th 1984, so I’m sure Apple would love to do something on this date 40 years later, probably an event, with “preorders” (bookings for an appointment to buy the Vision Pro in an Apple Store?) opening up on Friday 26th.
Good thought, but every time I think Apple is going to do something like that they never do. They don't seem to be very sentimental about stuff like that.

This thing needs some big ass jaw dropping exclusive franchise content reveal along with its release to really make a splash. Some floating windows of apps you are already familiar using on your iPhone are not gonna cut it

"The Eras Tour 360 - Taylor Swift. Exclusive on Vision Pro" or something like that

Honestly, the movies in 3D is what I am most excited for. I image it takes movie watching to another level of immersion.

Pretty sure Apple and investors want this thing to be an iPhone, or at least an iPad, level of success, not an Apple Studio display level of success.

As is, I think there was more excitement for the HomePod than there's been for this.

Thinking back to the iPhone launch... I remember there was a decent amount of excitement for it... mostly people hestitated at the $600 price tag. Apple slashed the price down to $200 and it sold okay... but it took the launch of the App Store a year later, then 3 years of massive spec improvements, before it finally really took off with the iPhone 4.

They will sell all they make but that will still be the very well heeled ‘early adopters’. They already said they are working on a cheaper version sometime in the future. I just don’t know what I would ever need it for - a monitor replacement? Some Apple Arcade family friendly level game? I paid almost $2k for my tweeked out iPad Pro but I use it every single day for hours. I don’t think I would ever get $3.5k of usage out of a headset.

Do you have an example where anyone at Apple has stated this will be a mass-market device?

I think Apple hopes that one day the AVP will be a common device, much like when the home computer first launched. It took many years till the home computer was a mass-market device.

More commonly, I see the detractors to the AVP claiming "it won't be a mass market device!" when I don't think anyone of any significance has made that claim.

I was referring to people here and around the web saying this (or within a couple revisions) will be the next iPhone and everyone will have to have one.

Apple hasn't said much about anything.

It is probably the worst analogy one could think of. That solid gold Watch housed the exact same technology inside as the 349$ aluminium Watch. The technology inside the Vision Pro is bleeding edge and available nowhere else, for no amount of money.

That doesn‘t mean a 3500$ item is going to be an immediate mass market hit, but it isn‘t supposed to be, either. Hell, Apple can only make like half a million of them in the first year (precisely because the tech is so bleeding edge), and you can bet your bottom dollar they will easily sell those.

Apple's Vision Pro headset will launch in the last week of January, a sketchy online report coming out of China claims.

Apple-WWCD23-Vision-Pro-EyeSight-230605.jpg

The information comes from Wall Street Insights, a Chinese investor news service with an unproven track record for Apple rumors. The website claims to have obtained exclusive information suggesting that the Vision Pro will launch on Saturday, January 27 in the United States. While the report clearly says that the launch is set to occur on a date that falls on a Saturday in the United States, there is a chance that the website is actually referring to January 27 in China, which falls on Friday, January 26 in the United States – a much more likely date for the launch of the Vision Pro.

Apple has never launched any of its hardware products on a Saturday, so it seems very unlikely that the Vision Pro headset would be the first. The company likely prefers to launch products on weekdays to align with normal business hours, ensuring maximum media coverage and stock market reaction. Friday, January 26 is likely also a more accurate interpretation since Apple overwhelmingly chooses Fridays to launch its new devices.

Apple simply says that the Vision Pro headset will launch "early" this year and has not yet announced any specific time frame for pre-orders and the product's launch. Oft-accurate Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently said that he expects the Vision Pro to hit shelves in late January or early February, which effectively lines up with this latest report from China. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, on the other hand, has been firmer in saying that Apple is planning the device's retail launch for February.

I better forget paying my mortgage, car payment and all my bills so I can get one! 😑

I could see preorders and scheduling to open on that date, big marketing push by Apple and then then mid February it's in the hands of users. Either way I'm excited! I'll be attempting to get it day one. I really do think these are going to sell out fast, mainly because of the limited stock though. If they push 0 financing and give 2 years on repayment, I think you're gonna see a much bigger market open up. A lot of people can afford an extra $150-$180 a month payment.
