Apple has never launched any of its hardware products on a Saturday, so it seems very unlikely that the Vision Pro headset would be the first.
Most people? 7.4 million can buy it with pocket change. No one is suggesting this. It’s too expensive period. Most people don’t have $3500 plus tax to spend on a luxurious and unnecessary item. Apple Watch Edition gold for $10k is a good analogy - see how well that sold.

My thoughts about the Apple Vision Pro the whole time have been that it is a projector replacement. I have an ultra short throw 4K projector right here that costs $3300 brand new and it came out years ago. I don't think people understand what the Vision Pro is trying to accomplish. Most people don't have ultra short throw projectors so they can't see why the Apple Vision Pro would cost $3500. I'm buying the AVP and I'm not worried about the next version coming out and being better. I'll just buy that one as well if it is worth the upgrade.ou can buy a nice projector tv 4k or the price of these goggles.

Exactly my thinking. I can afford it no problem. The price isn't the issue at all. Value on the other hand, is EXACTLY the issue for me.I can buy it many times over with just what's in my checking account. It's still too expensive for what it is.
It's not the price, it's the value. I don't know why people keep missing that... It doesn't bring enough to the table to be worth what is being charged.
Are you implying that the tax affects the display resolution??will never pay that much for this product. almost 4k after tax, yikes.
Well you're right about sharing it but it does replace the huge screen for just me in a much better way. I don't have to have a wall dedicated to a screen and there are no issues with light bleed. HDR content will look much, much better. I also am looking to use it on airplanes, hotels, and coffee shops. Yes I do live alone and use my projector for just me most of the time.Serious question.. how is it a replacement? It doesn't make any sense...Do you live alone?
I don't have a projector, or have use for one, but I do have a giant TV. Anyone can use it, alone, together, in group, as a couple, whatever. It has multiple HDMI inputs, so it's not tied to a system, it can pick up broadcast, connect to a Switch, watch streaming, receive casts/airplay, etc.

I'm interested in this use too, but I'm really concerned about what wearing it for extended period will do to our eyes. Strapping bright screens centimeters from your eyes for more than a few minutes seems like a recipe for wrecking your vision in the real world. I'm really hoping Apple addresses this and explains HOW it's safe. It looks really cool, and I want one, but this concerns me.Well you're right about sharing it but it does replace the huge screen for just me in a much better way. I really hope it's not a yearly releaseI'm fascinated by it and really want to try it out. I'm close to being willing to shell out for it with a couple of caveats-
1. The upgrade release timetable. If this is going to be a yearly product like the iPhone, then I'd feel like a dummy buying Gen 1 because the history with Apple is Gen 1 is wonky and Gen 2 hits it out of the park. But if this is going to be more like a Mac mini, with 3-5 years between releases, then I'd be more inclined to give Gen 1 a shot.
2. Eye health. I really hope Apple comes with receipts about the effect of strapping two bright screens to your eyes for hours at a time. Common sense is that it would be very bad for your vision, but I'm open to new information.
3. I work mostly at home in TV post-production, and another monitor is always welcome. So I'm wondering if the VP is THE computer you're using or if it functions more as a monitor extension to your desktop/laptop... or both! Would I be able to tether this thing to my 2017 iMac that I use for work and give me a 3rd virtual monitor to complement my Apple Studio?
4. If I'm 100% honest one of the compelling possibilities is this could be the greatest porn viewer of all time. Also could see it being wonderful for huge-screen movie watching and 3D movie watching. Does anyone have experience with Quest on how it performs for these uses? I understand the VP will have a much higher resolution than Quest so I'm just wondering if people have some sort of screen-door effect with Quest or other limitations.
I'm definitely interested in it, but I know I shouldn't. Realistically, it's just an external monitor for my Mac, but at 3.5k.
No, that’s apparently not planned: “Apple is not expected to hold another Vision Pro event when the device launches, due to the limited U.S. release, the $3,500 price tag of the device, and the limited supply that Apple has available. If demand for the Vision Pro is high, it could be months before Apple is able to manufacture enough units.” (https://www.macrumors.com/2023/12/20/vision-pro-february-launch/)There clearly has to be another event like they had the second Apple Watch event before launch, right?

I forgot to add that my projector is projecting at 120 inches and I have had it up to 140 before. The AVP will be able to mimic this with much better image quality.
Hmm we will see how it pans out but I use to have the Valve Index and never had any issues with my eyes. The most annoying thing about it was the wire attached to my PC, having to stand, and be somewhat aware of my physical surroundings. Visionally the thing I didn't like about the Index was that if I moved my eyes around to look up, down, left, or right it would distort the image quality. I'm guessing AVP won't have that issue with the eye tracking tech.I'm interested in this use too, but I'm really concerned about what wearing it for extended period will do to our eyes. I don't have an issue with that because the only thing I can think of that I couldn't just use my phone or Mac for would be my Windows gaming PC. What devices do you plug in that a Mac or iPhone couldn't suffice? As I understand it, this can't handle outside input sources that aren't airplay or the like. Is that not a concern?
If it's strictly a Mac replacement/supplement, then okay, but TVs/projectors can take several sources, from any company or device.
You have determined its value and found it wanting?I can buy it many times over with just what's in my checking account. It's still too expensive for what it is.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. And thanks to the Apple Card and savings accounts, Apple knows exactly what kind of cash people can throw to obtain a piece of “the future”. You know damn well a ton of young professional bachelors and cash strapped tech-dads are getting this thing.I could see preorders and scheduling to open on that date, big marketing push by Apple and then then mid February it's in the hands of users. Either way I'm excited! I'll be attempting to get it day one. I really do think these are going to sell out fast, mainly because of the limited stock though. If they push 0 financing and give 2 years on repayment, I think you're gonna see a much bigger market open up. A lot of people can afford an extra $150-$180 a month payment.
