No one is suggesting this. It’s too expensive period. Most people don’t have $3500 plus tax to spend on a luxurious and unnecessary item. Apple Watch Edition gold for $10k is a good analogy - see how well that sold.

1. Due to inflation, that $3,500 back in 1990 would equate to $8,222 in today's money.

2. Apple Watch gold edition was *NEVER* intended for the regular consumer market. It was intended to generate publicity in the media (ie FREE advertising), and cause consumers to get excited about and generate buzz for the regular Apple Watch. That worked incredibly well and was a brilliant move on Apple's part.

I hear ya bro!

iPod, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods... Flop, flop, flop, flop, flop, flop.

MacTV, Pippen, Newton, Cube, Apple III, Lisa, iPod Hi-Fi. All flops.

I don't personally think will be a flop, but I think it will very niche, and it will stay niche. Mostly because of the form factor and how it works, not solely because of the price.

This thing needs some big ass jaw dropping exclusive franchise content reveal along with its release to really make a splash. Some floating windows of apps you are already familiar using on your iPhone are not gonna cut it

"The Eras Tour 360 - Taylor Swift. Exclusive on Vision Pro" or something like that

For $3500 plus tax I'd want Taylor Swift twerking in my lounge.

Unless Apple have made huge strides since they presented it, the Vision Pro just doesn't seem ready for prime time. Even if I don't fully appreciate the various use cases, the limitations of how this thing works and operates seem pretty glaring to me.

The Apple Vision Pro will evolve over time! Why is that so hard for so many to understand? Please watch this video!

You're suggesting that the price is too high for what it is? My parents bought our first Mac (SE) in 1990 for $3500. The Vision Pro is 10,000 times more powerful.
And, $3,500 in 1990 is equivalent to about $8,222 in 2023, according to the US Inflation Calculator website.
Still, today $3,500 is expensive for most people and it shouldn't be expected that Apple will sell millions of Vision Pros in 2024.
However, one of Apple's greatest skills is taking an existing product category and refining the hardware and UI into the version that (almost) everybody actually wants: mp3 player -> iPod, smart phone -> iPhone, tablet -> iPad, ear buds -> AirPods, etc. Lots of people thought all of those products were too expensive to succeed when they were first launched, but given a little time, Apple seems to have done very well with all of those products.
That's not to say Vision Pro is a guaranteed success (no new product is), but Apple certainly has a better than average track record.

Yes, Apple had some doozies when it was a relatively young company.

But the products I mentioned above turned out to be incredible successes (such as iPod and iPhone), despite the reflexive flop predictions here.

AVP will iterate. Most people here have no idea what AR is about (it's not about projecting a few virtual giant computers screens while sitting in your living room).

First gen AVP is primarily for developers so that interesting applications can be developed. Future AVP generations will be smaller, cost less, and come with very interesting applications.

Some 1st gen AVP headsets will be sold to curious consumers not suffering from stunted imaginations just to see what AR (and VR coming along for the ride) is about.

They will do another event before it goes on sale I am sure. For all we know it has made great strides.

Could be Saturday launch in stores, event a week or so before, and then on to making reservations to personal demos…

Anyone know about UK / EU?
Apple has said it will initially launch in US only. That doesn’t mean it can’t launch in some other Tier 1 countries by year-end, but if rumors are to be believed, they can’t manufacture it at scale. My guess is Vision Pro may launch like the original iPhone did, ie US, UK, Germany, France only.

I know a few people with a Quest 2, and they all quit using it after a couple months when the newness wore off. I suspect this will be similar. I don't know anyone interested in the Quest 3, or the Vision Pro, for that matter.
It’s just matters if you can use it for work. I just want it to try for work. If it works better than an iPad great. If it works as well as a laptop super amazing. If it works better… than it’s a win. I have strong doubts but some things I do for my job it might be a winner.

I think I've read every thread on MacRumors regarding the AVP, and to my recollection, it's only been detractors of the device who have raised the "mass-market" canard. I haven't seen anyone who is interested in this product claim it's going to sell like the iPhone.
Agreed. Apple have made it clear for anyone paying attention that this is not a mobile device to be used while out and about. It’ll primarily be used sitting at a desk or on a sofa. When standing, it’s been reported that full immersion drops if you move outside of a small circle. All this being the case the market is going to be more Mac and iPad users, rather than iPhone users.

(I’m sure Apple would love to evolve the product line to become truly mobile - we’ll know this has happened when they add AR turn-by-turn directions to the Vision maps app - but for that to happen they’ll need a display technology that fails safe, i.e. glasses or retinal projector, to avoid literal crashes).

They could do well as devices you could rent for a week at a time. I might pay $100 to rent it over a long weekend.

I use the quest 3 and love it but the Vision Pro doesn’t do games in full vr just a big screen so not worth it, and it doesn’t have a killer app; the spacial video is a gimmick why shoot videos in lower quality only to use on a headset. It’s like the iPad just a big iPhone, the quest 3 does everything at £480
