If only the iPhone 17 Pro Max is getting the 48 megapixels telephoto lens camera and an increase in RAM what’s the point of waiting for another year for me if I don’t get anything new from it as an iPhone Pro consumer. I hate when there's a difference between the regular iPhone Pro and the Pro Max version. I want a Pro iPhone without having to choose a bigger screen size.
What’s next in the coming years? A “25 inch smartphone will be the norm?”
Too far out. Maybe max 12 and pro 10. Who knows yet. Max = more $ for Apple.

Welp.

Guess I will be holding on to my 13 Pro for another 3 years at this point.

There are really only two things I care about that would get me to upgrade:

1. Exponential increase in battery life. Make the phone slightly thicker if you have to, I don’t care about having the thinnest phone possible and I suspect most people don’t either.

2. If they get rid of the notch/Dynamic Island thing entirely so it’s all screen.

Other than those two things, I have 0 desire to upgrade outside of just straight up planned obsolescence in 3-4 years

On 15 pro and the only thing that would make me upgrade to a 17 is significantly longer battery life or a new chemistry that reduces degredation. Everything else about the phone is perfect

It will be wild to see how Apple strategically withholds tech out of the next phone if it has a new form factor.

The only innovation Apple has come up with since 2010 is how to slow drip improvements well enough to keep revenue up.

i don't really understand the 17 air rumor, particularly since it would have only 1 camera? that makes it a pretty niche device.
They're basically introducing a new form factor.... Kind of like they did with the iPhone X alongside the 8+...... I'm pretty sure in 2026 the air form factor will be used for the Pro models with high end specs.

TouchID is going to come back on the “Air” using the same type of hardware that powers camera control. You heard it here first, it’ll probably be either on the sleep/wake/siri button or the action button. It wouldn’t surprise me if there are no moving buttons on the phone either and everything is force sensitive so they can get increased water resistance.

“Air“ (which I doubt will be the name) will also likely be an all-screen phone with an under display front camera. Not requiring the faceID hardware will enable this. Check back in 12-24 months. :)

Caveat: his assumes they have an elegant solution for multitasking without the gap for the dynamic island. If not, maybe a single cutout but I still expect this will be the differentiator, in addition to the size/weight.

*as a bonus, I think the so called "air" phone will introduce an all screen front with under screen cameras.... This would explain why some analysts think it will cost more $$ than the pro models despite having lesser specs.

Smaller, not thinner.

I like my 13 mini. So I will hold out as long as I can with this 13 mini... unless Apple decides to make smaller phones again (highly unlikely).
Same here, my 13 mini serves me well, it goes nowhere before iPhone 20 or something 😉
Meanwhile, I keep my eyes on the Samsung flips, or I might even buy a small dumb phone.
Apple made great and small phones with Jobs, now they just keep getting closer to iPad mini’s, and I already have those.

Are foldable screens that nice; I’ve never used one before. My biggest fear is accidentally getting something abrasive between them [while in my pocket] and damaging it.

My Razr+ 2024 has a fantastic display. And so far no issues with anything getting stuck and scratching the screen or making the hinge sound crunchy/dirty.

I'm not a camera-head, so I have no need for the 'Pro' model. I'll swap my 13 for a 17 Plus when the time comes.

I’m starting to lean towards getting the 17 Pro Max instead. I’m still open to get the 17 Air.

A bit too early to decide, will impatiently wait for more leaks to come out from those phones.
