Really looking forward to dumping this 15 Pro Max for the 16 Pro next week.

I have the same mindset. I find I end up alternating max normal max normal max normal.

Maybe in some weird way, it is my justification for annual upgrades. If the size changes every year, I’ll feel like the phone is different.

Yeah, now that we are a few days out from the release I'm having mixed feelings about upgrading.

I usually upgrade every other year, like clockwork, but as I was about to upgrade last year to a 15Pro, I had an incident with my 13Pro in which apple replaced the device. The replacement iPhone 13Pro was brand new with 100% battery, and I've been using it now for about a year. I couldn't justify upgrading from a new iPhone 13Pro to a 15Pro. Instead of being two years old (or three) the 13Pro is now a year old and has 92% battery health. So I'm probably just going to wait until next year.

For a new Apple Watch, on the other hand, I may go ahead and upgrade from my 7 to a 10 or a black ultra. I'm waiting to see some reviews and teardowns and for the first price reductions.
I‘m still thinking about upgrading or not upgrading.
My 11 Pro Max I bought 3 years ago works okay, just replaced the previous battery that was at 78% health.
Sure, there are definitely reasons to potentially upgrade… but apart from the occasional stutters with the screen, I don’t seem like I need to just yet. I’m hanging on the “if it isn’t broken, don't fix it“ mindset.

I really want the rumored Air, but only if it has the larger screen. That's why I'm going with the 16 Pro Max (6.9 display), because I don't think they'll launch the Air with the premium screen real estate. If they do - I'mma be bummed!!!

Looks more like competition for the iPad mini than for an iPhone
Why not both? And the unfolded screen is 10.2” inch, so more like a regular iPad, and at a resolution even higher than the 13” iPad Pro, but at the weight of a mini, and only 38% more volume than an iPhone Pro Max (as opposed to 59% for the iPad mini), while being narrower folded than a Pro Max.

Based on rumors so far, the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will look nearly identical to the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. Unless Apple finally has some significant design change under their sleeves?

Skipping the current offering based solely on rumors of next year’s phone that currently have no fact based foundation is illogical action, in my opinion.
I personally love my 15 PM and see little improvement of anything I want. We will have to see if 17 no beter I might go to 18 Pro line we will see what really drops next year

Finally the 48 MP IMX903 for the single lens 17 Air?
Are there any existing devices (from any manufacturer) that use this sensor yet? All I’m seeing in search results is a bunch of rumors that the 16 Pro would have it and it apparently does not.

Every year the technies complain about how little the iPhone has changed. Every year it sells like hot cakes. If I were Apple, I'd measure out improvements in milligrams. What are they gonna do, go to Android? Hahahaha

This will be more likely my next phone to replace my aging 12 pro max. Unless Apple is completely overhauling the design or removing the Face ID camera in favour for a single punch hole design in the iPhone 18 pro max

Will definitely be skipping and holding onto my 14 Pro. Shame that the Pro and Pro Max don’t get the same features, honestly, they both are “Pro”, but it seems the quotations are doing the heavy pulling here with Apple devices.

Same as the iPad “Pro” lol

Anyone else sick of paying $1000 for a "Pro" iPhone only to have the Pro Max get the best new features? I mean, I get battery life, but come on. Sounds like this new update they only want Max owners to upgrade. I tried the Max this last cycle, and I just much prefer the smaller size. Really looking forward to dumping this 15 Pro Max for the 16 Pro next week.

If this holds true for launch next year, I might just not use my iPhone Upgrade Program and keep the device. My daughter will be almost 13 in two years and ready for a smartphone. I'm sure she would be ecstatic to get an iPhone 16 Pro, even if it's two years old.
I agree with you. It's like Apple thinks everyone prefers the biggest iPhone while that is not true. I think there are many people that prefer a smaller iPhone because it's easier to use with one hand and it's also easier to put it in a normal size pocket. It reminds me of the iPhone 5 commercial
12GB of RAM and smaller Dynamic Island being only on 17 Pro Max would sting for any (Pro, non Max) users waiting to upgrade to 17 Pro instead of just getting the 16 Pro and enjoying present day tech (I say this as someone with a 14 Pro who probably won't upgrade to 16 Pro).
It would sting for many like it did in the past. I like to have the same parity of features in a smartphone regardless of the screen size.

Apple finds that it’s better to throw in a model when they want to raise prices. Just like the mini, it serves its purpose as the reg iPhone went up $100. Same for “air.” Will take $999 slot and pro will start at $1099. They don’t care if it flops as long as it softens blow on making more on pro models.
Wouldn’t eliminating the 128GB 17 Pro accomplish that to some degree. You get 256GB at the same price like last year ($1,099). We seem to have an incomplete picture of this new iPhone 17 “Air” model. The single camera could actually be based on a patent Apple filed years ago which described a single lens camera that would combine the functionality of the current three lens camera system into one. Will the iPhone Pro models languish in design stagnation for several more years or could these rumors pointing towards a new model be actually referring to a iPhone Pro model redesign?

An upgrade for the front facing cameras will be good. Think those with 15 Pro Max can definitely hold on to their devices for another year and see what the 17 Pro will offer.

Excited and looking forward to all the rumors year around regarding the iPhone 17 series.
