The idea that Apple would not release 15 inch models until later just "to give the current 15-inch MacBook Pro a longer shelf life before replacing it" is absurd to me. The 15 Retina has hardly had any significant changes for almost 4 years now. Tiny bumps in processor speeds and a couple minor GPU changes have been peanuts. Meanwhile, all kinds of competitors have Thunderbolt 3 Skylake notebooks with similar resolution, size, etc.

Apple are going to release the 15 absolutely as quickly as possible. They're already many months late. I find the notion that they would update more slowly for no very compelling reason to be laughable. Who comes up with this stuff?

I need to upgrade from my 2010 Macbook Pro ASAP for work, and I'm not sure if I should wait for the next version or not.
I have the same late 2010 Macbook Pro, which BTW lasted much longer than I anticipated. I just ordered the New older macbook pro from B&H(2014). This is good news about later in 2016 for me, as I would have been miffed if they launched a new mbp when I just ordered one.

I'll be really, really disappointed if it's beyond the summer for a 15", considering the key parts are essentially ready now.

Ugh.

I'm feeling like I would have pulled the trigger last summer if I knew how long it was going to be until the next 15" rMBP.

Maybe I'll take the $3000 I was planning on spending on a new computer and instead pay for a Tesla Model 3 reservation this March.

I kinda doubt Apple would want to stagger the launch and frankly I suspect they are really excited about the possibility of releasing a really decent 15" MBP after getting screwed over by Intel. The only reason I could see Apple staggering releases is if Intel can't supply the chips in a high enough volume. Considering how Intel has screwed up with its 14nm processes this could be a very real possibility.
I can't see any reason why Apple would want to wait. I am sitting here with my credit card ready for a 15" MBP to replace my mid 2012. Don't you want my money?

I'd rather have another USB-C port than a dedicated power port in the same space. It's far more useful.
I thought the same thing but purchased it anyway, the adapter attached to charge and use USB works just fine. A minor pain in the butt but really I love how portable it is, does video editing (4K!) and photo editing perfectly.

Call me paranoid maybe, but for me it's about security. Charging the thing is the only thing you HAVE to do in order to use it. I don't want the only non-optional thing I have to plug into my computer to have firmware-level access to the hardware. You can put some pretty nasty stuff on those public USB charging stations, or those third-party USB power adapters. I know it sounds silly, but where credit card skimmers were a problem in the 90's and 2000's, compromised USB chargers will be hidden in plain sight security issue in near future. iOS has decent protection against this (though not perfect), but Mac hardware so far has nothing to protect against this.

Doesn't make sense to wait for months to release a Skylake MBP - any redesign could have been proactively done. Apple have received manufacturing samples to design a new motherboard, and allow a redesign.

The 2015 machines are getting a bit old in the tooth.. Time for a good refresh.

Great, I can start figuring out when to sell my current 15" 2014 model, what to buy in the meantime and if I'll be able to wait on the new model from there.

Maybe selling before WWDC, buying a second-hand iMac, waiting until august on the new model (could be delayed until november though).

It's all about the value, 'bout the value, much trouble.

I doubt you will notice the difference (it will be minimal) between the current box you own and what is coming out.

My guess for the delay for the 15" is that they're waiting for new GPUs from AMD. The older GPUs are still at 28nm - a process that came out in 2011, and the new ones should be at 14nm.

Finally some MacRumors!

I hope this does not mean that the 15" rMBP will bring the redesign in Q3, while the 13" model will be stuck with this design yet another year...

It actually would make sense to redesign the 13" model first, seeing as the processors have been available for far longer, moreover the 13" model is unquestionably the best seller. However, knowing Apple, they will probably introduce the new design with the more expensive model, i.e the 15".

I'm just looking for a 13" MacBook Air with Retina Display though. People said the 13" rMBP was it, while it clearly isn't. I've used mine for nearly two years soon and I still miss my MBA. Hopefully the redesign will solve this, or I might try the rMB.

What are the differences between original 15 inch retina Macbook (which I currently own) and current one? I thought the display was difference / better? I know the force touch went into the Macbook in the Mid 2015 update. Also the SSD is faster now..

The current 15 inch model I has isn't stable and seems reload up everytime I turn it on and battery life is poor. Other then that I really like. I wondering if getting a mid 2015 model for $2K new on eBay is right option or waiting for skylake redesign? I don't think the skylake performance increase is all that much.

Also, newsflash: don't expect any updated Macbook Airs.

13" and 15" Pro may get a redesign to be somewhat smaller, the air (I suspect) will be dropped from the lineup. A retina macbook air = essentially a macbook or slightly smaller form factor macbook pro.

or maybe we'll just see the 13" pro dropped and replaced by a 14" machine in the style of the new macbook and perhaps an extra port. 15" staying similar to what it currently is.

there's currently too much overlap in the apple lineup and updating the air for retina would only confuse things even more.
