get iOS up to snuff in v10/11 and I will buy the iPad pro instead (the A-series chips are pretty much there already - so by the time we are at the A11 chip, I won't be worried about hardware performance). this intel stuff just does not do it for me anymore.

The rMB can keep it's one USB-C port, but I will not buy it until they have a dedicated charging-only port, which would ideally be MagSafe2. I don't want to hear the bull that there isn't enough space - there is.

I agree... The one I/O port with adapters doesn't bother me too much, but I want a dedicated MagSafe port... make it smaller and call it MagSafe3 (or MagSafeC), but add it to the new MacBook.

And then Mac users can run into the same Skylake problems that Windows users having been dealing with for a while ...

Given that Skylake chips have been announced for both the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro, there does not appear to be any reason for Apple to stagger the release of its notebooks this year.

Uh... are the ones with "Iris Pro"-class graphics (a) announced and (b) actually available?

I'm a bit worrie dthat if this report is true we'll see an updated 13" rMBP with the same design and Apple saving the redesign for the 15" as we saw with the introduction of retina. This would likely push a redisned 13" rMBP till late 2016 or even early 2017 (although it would then get Kirby Lake).
Crossing my fingers for the redesign to debut on the 13" this time around!

The speed in the Ax is one thing, being able to run x86 software is entirely another.

Sure, for plenty of people Ax is fast enough, but no boot-camp, no parallels, no quick and easy porting of Windows applications = a big downer for others.

I suspect that Apple's more interested in putting each quarterly shareholder's call in the best light, than they are in the customer, by spreading out the releases over a couple months.
But considering how long many people have been waiting for Skylake, it'd be nice for Apple to JUST GET IT DONE.

I miss the cpu advancements of the days of old. even the current windows desktop I have at work is not a mind blowing jump from my 2013 mbp for cpu intensive tasks.

It is what it is I guess. :(

I don't think its a CPU issue why Apple has taken so long to update the MBP's to Skylake. The Pro is going through a transition similar to the iMac of 2012 with the slim profile and the Mac Pro in its current design. Apple I believe is working on introducing a redesigned MBP 15 and 13 inch probably based around Thunderbolt 3. Expect more ports to be dropped. I think I bought probably the last conventional design which is broadwell. I am happy with it and don't see myself needing to purchase another notebook for the next 5 years.

Yep people keep waiting year after year after year.

Sad really. they can't enjoy whats out now in fear that they will miss out on slightly updated technology and marginal gains , so they wait... and they wait based of irrational thoughts and beliefs they are constantly missing out.

Apple really needs to put a second USB-C port on the rMB. It would fit on the other side just fine. Not having a dedicated charging port is a pain.

My apologies if I missed this elsewhere, but why is Skylake so awesome, besides being The Next Big Thing? I'm not asking about the next MBP cycle, which may/not include more ports, better resolution, slimmer keys, MindMeld Track Pad, and so on. What does this new processor have> More cores, better TurboBoost? Assembly-level video processing, better battery management (and therefore life)? Just askin'

I'm a dedicated Aperture user. Is there any reason to think Aperture might not work with Skylake an d all these other hardware changes. I'd hate to waaaaaaaiiiiiiiitttt and only find out in September that the new computers don't work with my most critical software.

Call me paranoid maybe, but for me it's about security. Charging the thing is the only thing you HAVE to do in order to use it. I don't want the only non-optional thing I have to plug into my computer to have firmware-level access to the hardware. You can put some pretty nasty stuff on those public USB charging stations, or those third-party USB power adapters. I know it sounds silly, but where credit card skimmers were a problem in the 90's and 2000's, compromised USB chargers will be hidden in plain sight security issue in near future. iOS has decent protection against this (though not perfect), but Mac hardware so far has nothing to protect against this.

You are paranoid

Skylake also supports DDR4 RAM, which requires even less power and delivers speed improvements. I was disappointed to see Skylake introduced into the iMac without DDR4; that was my main reason for not upgrading.

My hope is that these laptops (plus the iMac) do see the introduction of DDR4 along with Skylake, especially if Apple is going to have its non-upgradeable RAM maxed at 16GB.

Yes, give a longer shelf life to the 15" rMbp running on a 2013 haswell chip! Makes sense to me, NOT!! Might as well launch in Q3 with broadwell just to further piss people off o_O

I need to upgrade from my 2010 Macbook Pro ASAP for work, and I'm not sure if I should wait for the next version or not.
I'd say wait it out a couple of months - rumors are the upcoming will be redesigned as well as have better guts.
