I've only been able to play for about an hour but for those of you on the fence I suggest waiting for reviews.

The game feels a bit dated, combat feels floaty, NPC dialog is hard to follow at time (had to use subtitles). Graphics are ok'ish but nothing mind blowing.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely love the game but not playing it for 3 years may have affected my reality of the game. Lol

Probably looks good on your new TV. I was at Gamestop earlier today and the employee actually talked me out of purchasing Skyrim for your reasons. Red Dead 2 can't get here soon enough. Will be at the Midnight release for this one.

I hate this re-release trend that has grown up with the PS4 and XBone generation. I played Skyrim, why are you wasting time releasing a game that came out last generation?

They've done the same anthology crap with the Uncharted games, Halo, Gears of War, Assassin's Creed, God of War, Last of Us, the list goes on. These games aren't old enough to significantly benefit from remastering, just a bit better graphic sheen and an excuse to get people to buy the same games over again.

If you want to do this kind of thing, go back more than 1 generation. Bethesda, your fans have clamored for a Morrowind remaster for YEARS. Remake THAT, not your most recent Elder Scrolls game!

I highly disagree. The remastered versions of these PS4/XBOX games offer quite a bit in terms of Replayability. Take GTA V or Uncharted Series remastered series for example. They have improved frame rates, graphics, weather effects, added
In game mechanics With more weapons, cars, additional levels and scenes, with over all stability.

GTA V was a HUGE remastered release, adding a whole new first person shooter/driving perspective, which was only possible through the power of the newer Gen consoles.

Not to mention, if your a fan of the game you played through the first time and enjoyed the content for hours on end, some, including myself, absolutely would spend the money again to replay the title.

And some of these remastered games also include free downloadable content, which may not have been available from the original release on the previous console.

TL;DR - great game, not sure it is worth $60, but if it gets to $40 or less you should buy it.

Been playing Skyrim (again) now for 2 days. I sank about 500 hours into it back in 2011 & 2012. One of my favorite games of all times (Morrowind was slightly better in my opinion, and Oblivion...too awful to mention).

Full disclosure...I'm playing this on a PC. I'm not sure I would have gotten this if it wasn't free. My take is that they updated the engine to be 64-bit, but didn't really update the objects in the game (such as the people, plants, buildings, etc.) The graphics out of the box are definitely better than they were in 2011 (let's hope, ha ha), less pop-up for example. The characters and other objects do look a little dated, but that's why everybody loads up mods, it's to make everything better.

I'm guessing that if you wait for the holidays or next year, the price will drop on the consoles (and the mods should be up and working for ?everybody?), at which point you would have to be kinda nuts not to get it/try it. It is a highly immersive, single player experience and they do 99% of stuff right. Again, not for everybody.

With the money I didn't spend on this...I'll snap up a Nintendo Switch version day 1 (you hear me Bethesda? You'd better come out with a Switch version!).

I broke down and traded in some older games (including skyrim for my 360) and bought it. Came to only $35 after the trade ins.

It's a deal for me bcause I didn't have any of the DLC's before and now I can use mods. I started my new stealth assassin archer last night and played through the first barrow. The graphics are a nice upgrade from the 360, and I forgot how much I enjoyed playing this game.

I have the game on PS3 (the legendary edition), never played it. I have the game on Steam, according to Steam I have played it for about 94 hours. I know I have played through like 1-2 story missions only lol. The rest of the time just doing side missions and exploring. I want to play the game more, but, while the PC version looks with the high resolution pack (official) far better than 360/ps3, the whole DRM thing annoys me. To the point I ordered it (waiting for it) for the PS4. From what I read the PS4 version doesn't have the issues the Xbone and PC versions of the remastered edition. It is the version to have, at least till the PC version gets patched. Having said that I would still prefer the PS4 version as I HATE to have with DRM (PC Steam), and I hate to to download patches for games I own a physical copy on (Xbone), especially console games which I don't know what will happen with the patches/dlc in the future when they stop supporting the console.

MY POINT is, if you like open world games, this game is a must IMO. After the opening segment of the game (the obligatory tutorial part), you are free to explore and see this world as you wish. It's just a beautiful experience. If of course you are not a fan of open world games, this might be a problem.

I agree, this is probably one of the best open world games ever, that will appeal to the broadest audience. If you are a fan of racing in and completing games, this may not be for you as it is just joy to keep asking, "What is on the other side of that hill?" and then go and explore the other side of that hill. You just can't help but get lost in all the side quests.

What issues do the PC and XBone versions have that the PS4 doesn't?

From what I have read, the audio files were mixed up and the ones available on PC and Xbone of this remastered edition are of a far lower quality. Bethesda has said they are going to patch them. Which is fine of course, but I just prefer to have the version which doesn't rely on extra downloads, which is why I prefer the PS4 version.

For you guys playing what character builds are you going for?

My first couple times playing through years ago I always went for a strictly warrior character generally an imperial or orc. Then I would just run straight into battle clobbering everyone with a massive sword or axe. If that didnt work I would just do it again with slight variations until it did.

This time around I went dark elf and using destructive magic. I'm finding this MUCH more difficult because my skill points are MUCH more valuable since I need to spread them across many things that are useful, destructive magic, light armor, restoration, etc etc plus things I just want like lock picking.

Unlike Fallout 4 having a level cap adds a new dynamic to the game. I like the challenge but the more casual play style of Fallout 4 is appealing too. I don't like wondering if I wasted a skill point or invested it properly.

Original play through, a Battle-mage. Sword in one hand, destructive magic in the other. Started heavier armor, but later settled on light armor set. I used restoration magic in place of a shield, healing myself frequently.

Next play play through, I want to go Thief-Archer, maybe skip magic altogether. I never did Dark Brotherhood or Thieves guild quest, and I want to side with the other faction (Imperials vs Stormcloaks). Plenty of other side quest to I haven't played yet either.

First time through, I was a thief/archer/assassin.

Now I'm playing a straight up Nord, fighter, although I like stealth so I'm sticking with light armor, and doing archery as well. Magic seems pretty powerful in Skyrim, but I'm just not that interested. Ever since Vampire:Masquerade, my favorite weapon is now the sledgehammer! Or, a war hammer , in Skyrim...

I tried it out with all the settings on max on my 2011 iMac. Of course it didn't run well! But it also didn't look amazing. I think I must have expected more from the visuals, it seems they just took a few shaders from their newer games. Nowt wrong with that! But the visual leap from GTAV on PS3 to 4 included so much more.

So yeah. I was tempted to pick up the PS4 version so I could play it on Vita too, but since I'm not impressed with the looks I'll happily settle for the Switch version and hope it contains some new features there.

Yes, that is similar to my experience. It just seems that, besides having more background visuals and a farther horizon, not much else was updated. The people's faces look just like they did 5 years ago. Of course, that is why you install the mods.

I forget who had a side-by-side comparison of the PS3 v. PS4 versions. You really had to look hard to spot any differences. It as all in the details, which, if you are busy playing you may not really notice that much.

Agreed, overall I'm somewhat disappointed.

It does seem strange if Bethesda is going to re-release and remaster a game then charge full retail why not fix the bugs and exploits?

Playing through now when a quest doesn't go well I fear that I might be experiencing a bug whether I am or not because I know they didn't fix them.

It's too bad Bethesda didn't add Console Command support to the PS4/Xbox versions of the game. I recall that saved my butt at least once from a major quest ending bug on my original Mac-Cider-PC-port play through.

Or even did what they did in ESO. You can abandon a quest, then just go re find the quest giver and replay the quest. Definitely a pain but that saved my ass twice in ESO.

Well I gave in and picked it up last night. And so far so good! The vistas are still amazing but they really could have put more effort into close up detail, especially character models and textures!

I only played the original for maybe 28 hours. I didn't get any story done beyond the intro because I find just walking around doing odd missions rewarding. And I started doing that again in the new game, and getting flashbacks to previous stuff. I think that's the beauty of this game.

(I picked it up for 1/4 less than RRP at a supermarket. I don't think I'd spend full price on this)

how much better is it? basically what I want to ask opinions of is...

I own the original game with all the dlc, on steam. my old imac is more than capable of running it at reasonable resolution with its 3.2ghz i5 and 1gb 6970m, but would balk at the new version. this cost me about €10 maximum in a steam sale.

ive never really played it as my first 20 mins it didn't grab me like fallout did, but id like to try again.

I have a PS4 now. I know it will be better on the PS4 but will it be good enough that ill be glad I spent €60 on it?

I was hoping morrow wind remake would happen. Skyrim was great, but never played remake one.

So from being indifferent to it I now can't stop playing it. Really enjoying just wandering about completing dungeons. I've played for 6 hours so far and all I've done on the main mission is return the dragon claw in Riverhold (is it called?). It's *very* good on remote play too. The game itself controls awfully but that basically hides any lag when playing on Vita.

Hah, I'm the opposite. I could never get into Fallout. I enjoyed what I played of 3 but honestly nothing from what I've seen in 4 appeals to me. It's a shame because I really want to like it! My partner is a huge fan.

If you didn't like the original you won't like this. It's still the same game, I haven't even seen any gameplay changes. Maybe there are some but for me it just looks like the PC version on very high settings.

see my problem is i dont like the magic and orcs and spells stuff, whereas with fallout i like the story. however i think if i tried a bit harder with skyrim id like it, but i dont know whether to try to get into on my mac, old version, prob medium settings, or spring for it on my ps4.

I settled on PS4 despite having it for free on PC because it's just much more convenient to play it on the TV. It controls like arse though. Trying to pick up items using the analogue stick to aim precisely over them is just NOT FUN and eventually it gets on my nerves.

For me it's the story too. I do love the story in Fallout but the problem is it's the same story over and over. Wake up from a vault, go fix part of the world. Done. But like I really want to wander around a post-apocalyptic wasteland that's a little more characteristic now - something a bit more surreal. Like maybe the radiation caused huge worms to create caverns that mankind built into creating temples and underground castles. And maybe it deformed plantlife to grow to extraordinary heights. Maybe mankind made vast robots that died, forming part of the landscape where some people then made their home. Did huge underwater complexes house a vast amount of people living and evolving completely independently from the rest of humanity. I'd love to play a game with :)

That sounds like a good bit of fun. I think they would need to make it into it's own franchise or make it an offshoot though. I was under the belief that the Fallout games generally use an alternate timeline of our own, starting in something like the 50s. With robots being the main differentiator between the timelines (besides the nuclear fallout of course).

(oh my word autocorrect garbled my post! There's a bug if you use bluetooth keyboards with the iOS beta. It doesn't underline incorrect spellings but autocorrects some things - but not others, and sometimes removes the final word in a sentence if you add a period using double-space)

See! I don't know how much of the lore is set in the Fallout games but I always imagined (I've only played a bit of 3 and New Vegas) it taking place hundreds of years into the future where society froze itself in the 1950's. Is that the case?
