Wha........?

jbarrychristian, **** already. You're posts aren't welcome here. If you want to post idiotic statements, go to Fox News site and they will fit in there. This is a Mac sight and not for posts from the mentally handicapped.

Really, this is a Mac "sight"? I thought these things on the web were called sites. Who's handicapped now?

I'm having no luck getting the player to work over 3G. I tried both VoIPOver3G as will as Tricker ThreeG and while I do not get the "Wi-Fi" only message, I have had no luck in connecting. I am in a good area with a full 3G signal, so I am wondering what I am doing wrong.

I had the same problem and fixed it. I was using a different port (21) on my slingbox because I initially had problems using the default port when I first set it up. I tried reconfiguring the slingbox to the default port (5001) and now it works. Not sure why - does AT&T block ftp?

pmon914,
ddenson is right. You're better off setting your sling to a static ip and port forwarding 5001 or 5002 to that ip.

It works fine when I use it over WiFi though. Would that make a difference?

Wifi in your own LAN or anywhere else? If everywhere else on wifi its fine then I'm guess its something else. Try the port forwarding and statics though. I would like to know just incase that does work.

Works with my Slingbox AV and Bell TV Dual Tuner PVR

I have a Bell TV PVR Dual Tuner with my Slingbox AV hooked up to it and it works great. I can change channels, create recordings, watch pre-recorded shows etc. All of the normal controls appear to work fine!!

Now I have to figure out how to Jailbreak my iPhone 3G so that I can watch via 3G.

Cheers.

No. Mine worked fine over wifi too, but wouldn't work on 3g - that's why I think AT&T is blocking ports. Once I changed my slingbox to go via the standard port, everything worked. This may not be your problem if you haven't changed the port - are you on port 5001 or did you change it?

I see no reason to believe this will ever be possible, the AV cables only output ipod videos, no menus and no other app content. Yes some developers have been shown outputting their games onto a tv during testing, but this is not going to carry over to a user experience (at least not yet)

can anyone confirm if it is possible to output the video to TV using AV cables?

If your jailbroken there are a couple apps in cydia that output the video over the av cable.

1) ScreenSplitr - Outputs exactly what's on your iphone screen. It's a little laggy though.

2) TV Out - Better quality output, but blanks out the display on the iphone when outputting to external screen. Also allows you to choose which applications to output on-screen and which to not output.

Hawkeye411: so i take it there's full compatibility with older sling boxes right? :) I have the Slingbox AV as well and i was afraid i would have had to upgrade to the Pro-HD!

Yea .. I had the same fear and I was pretty ticked off. I installed the latest version of the SlingPlayer for my Mac. Then logged onto my Slingbox AV and the SlingPlayer software indicated that I needed to install new software on my Slingbox AV (i.e. new firmware). I let it do it's thing and then I purchased the SlingPlayer for my iPhone, entered in the Slingbox AV information and connected with no issues. As I said, I have complete control of my Bell TV Dual Tuner PVR with no issues. There are a few other posts earlier in this thread that also mention that it is working fine after they installed the updates for their Slingbox AV.

Let me know how it goes!!
Happy Slinging on your AV!!

Cheers.

Thanks! Good to know :)
Just to make sure... is your firmware on v1.2.12?
BTW, where in Canada are you from? I use to live in Toronto.

thanks again!

Forgetting about the limitations of this app which is clearly not Slings fault. The biggest problem with this app is you can't watch TV in full screen, WTF is with that? The appeal of this app on the iPhone is the iPhone's nice big screen. I don't understand how they can make this app without using the full screen. Its like having a Ferrari that only goes 35 MPH, not good Sling, not good.

I'm out of town right now. I'll check for you tomorrow night when I get home.

I'm on the East coast in New Brunswick. I grew up in Toronto though.

Cheers.

Relax...This is a known bug and Sling is already working on this for the next release/version. Confirmed via phone call with Sling earlier this week.

Sling on 3g without editing voipover3g.plist

I don't think this was posted here, but I finally did the jailbreak and then quickly found an app via Cydia that works for Slingplayer, Skype, and Fring (I believe). I've used it for Sling and for Skype and both were perfect over 3G.

Search for Tricker 3G in Cydia. Do a quick install then try your Slingplayer on 3G. No editing of plists, etc. This is great for those of us dinosaurs still running windows!

You can edit plists on your dinosaur OS pretty easily.

Plus that has been mentioned previous times. Kudos to you for trying to help others out though.

Repeated "optimizing"

Relax...This is a known bug and Sling is already working on this for the next release/version. Confirmed via phone call with Sling earlier this week.

I have no idea what the issue is over full screen. My SlingPlayer runs full screen.

But the operative word here is "runs" because even with a jailbroken iPhone and VoIP, running Sling on 3G is virtually unwatchable.

That's because every few minutes (or sometimes more or less often) the program starts "optimizing", freezing the picture and killing the sound. Basically re-buffering.

By the time it's done, either I've missed 30 seconds or a minute of the program I was trying to watch or the app just disconnects. But it is anything but reliable. Please don't blame AT&T on this one. I had this app on my Palm Treo over Sprint 2G and had the exact same issues. It's the app.

This is happening in areas with AT&T signal showing 4 bars and 3G on.

Maybe I'm trying too hard, since when I am trying to watch I am either walking or in a moving vehicle.

In any case, I'd say the app, even wi-fi only, is not ready for prime time yet. And without 3G, it certainly isn't worth $30. My suggestion: do not buy the app until it actually works on both wi-fi and 3G without the buffering.

Screenshot of your iphone running this full screen? It's a pretty common issue.

And it must be the 3G speeds in your area. NYC is known for being slower than average b/c of the amount of users here but I can still maintain a steady signal over 3G.

SlingPlayer on iPhone output to TV

Is it possible to use the SlingPlayer on iPhone and then connect the iPhone up to a TV and watch streamed content?
