Just got back from the AT&T store, having test driven the Blackberry Bold for about an hour. It's a pretty impressive phone. Bought it, got it set up, and I am now slinging the hell out of my cable TV over 3G. iPhone is in a drawer, don't really care if I see it again.

I'm watching sling over 3G too. On my iPhone.

SlingPlayer is a reason to finally JAILBREAK!!!

I'm curious - does it only work over 3G, or does it also work over EDGE. I have an original iPhone and would love to try this!

Yep, I have the first gen iPhone, and only EDGE, and it works...and looks nearly as a good as over wifi with just a bit more lag! Do it...jailbroken iPhones are the best!

I have my sling pro-HD hooked to my DirecTV HD DVR. When I watch my sling on my iphone, in standard mode, I get bars on the left and right and my video is squished. My DVR is set to output 16x9, and even when I change to letterbox, it doesn't fill the screen.

I have the same question too. My DVR setting is set to 16x9 too. After I tried changing the DVR screen settings and other stuff, the closest I can get wide screen on the iphone is standard mode with bars on both sides or letterbox with thin bars on all four sides. But that seems to be the only way to get widescreen in iPhone. I don't think it can do real "full screen". Unless someone did succeed, please let us know.

Grass roots? Are you serious?

So let's start up a grass roots effort and boycott both companies. If we can elect our first African-American president via grass roots i'm sure we can teach these 2 fat, greedy companies that they can not get away with this.

FIGHT BACK, BOYCOTT APPLE AND AT&T. SAY NO TO NEW IPHONES THIS SUMMER!!!!

Good idea. Okay, you call all of the news media except Fox News and tell them to pour sycophantic praise onto this idea. Then, call all of the old Clinton Administration people and tell them we need them because we need advisors with "new ideas". Next, get rich guys like Tony Rezco, Bill Soros, and others like them to provide donations to support it. Be sure to keep the donations under $200 and have bundlers put these together for larger donations so we can avoid disclosing who donated.
Oh, and I almost forgot the most important part. You need to find a fresh face to lead the charge. He or she needs to be young, charismatic, good-looking, articulate and clean (according to Joe Biden) and the person we select should be very very good at reading a tele-prompter and it would be best if they were friends with and were trained by 1960's radical socialists that bombed the pentagon.

If we can do all of this, then we can have a true grass roots... wait a second... Never mind. :p

But if you REALLY want to fix it, just get your "grass roots elected" President Obama to declare that they must change their ways or he will take them over. He must not know about this, or he would have already fixed it by now like everything else... Right? Right?

What a bunch of dupes

I'm having the same display issues as you guys...

Unfortunately I think we're SOL for the time being.

So far this is my biggest gripe with the program - who wants to watch something so tiny?? keep in mind the iphone screen is a good deal smaller than these pictures...

Email ATT

Suggest everyone who owns an iPhone 3G, log into their wireless account and send customer service a message indicating your outrage that they will not allow slingbox over 3G for iPhone but do other smart phones. I did. Maybe if they get a few hundred thousand emails, they will think twice about prohibiting this.

Or they will start actively blocking any connections to slingboxes on their network regardless of phone... Equality can work both ways.

I just ran a little test, I tried slingbox over 3G for 5 minutes on standard quality and used 14.5MB. Next I watched a video clip off nbc's mobile site which was 5:23 minutes and it used 18.5MB. So sling is to much for the network, but video off the net is just right? I think ATT is looking at providing their own TV service for a price and sling steps on it. Sling just needs to get their sling online service to work with the iphone. That way ATT can't stop it.

I read in an article a little while back that when Sling made this application they left the screen size at 320 X 240, instead of taking up to the size of the iPhone's screen. For the life of me I don't understand why they would do that.

I did also and I am still arguing with the guy who wrote back.

It does work!! Very cool. Not exactly ideal though - it keeps stopping and optimizing/relinking, but it definitely works! Anyone have any tips on getting it to stream better over EDGE?
btw - I'm using this with a Slingbox AV.

VoipOver3G hack works great!!! Working really well on Rogers 3G here in Canada, limited only to my DSL upstream speed which is about 80KB/sec.

I wish it had customizable video settings, ie resolution, bitrate, etc, like the desktop version. Not being able to set a constant bitrate is a bit worrysome for bandwidth usage. my 6GB plan is pretty decent though.

you guys... if voipove3g didn't work...

try Tricker ThreeG
it works like a charm and you just install it and off you go! slingbox works great over 3G

just like wifi at home.

If I remember correctly the connection between SlingBox and SlingPlayer is encrypted.

Voipover3g didn't work for me...but Tricker did! i just streamed some video over GPRS...for about 10 seconds :)

jbarrychristian, **** already. You're posts aren't welcome here. If you want to post idiotic statements, go to Fox News site and they will fit in there. This is a Mac sight and not for posts from the mentally handicapped.

I'm having no luck getting the player to work over 3G. I tried both VoIPOver3G as will as Tricker ThreeG and while I do not get the "Wi-Fi" only message, I have had no luck in connecting. I am in a good area with a full 3G signal, so I am wondering what I am doing wrong.

sitting in McDonald's watching Walker on iPhone. Picture ana sound are great. would like to have G3, but it's worth the $30 for wifi and I'm using slingbox AV and it's working great.

The only way to strike back is to boycott the iPhone, App store and iTunes until it hurts Apple and AT&T so much financially that they do something about it. Also if you don't buy a new iphone this Summer, you strike a blow to both AT&T and Apple. It is time they learn that we the customers are in power not them. They must give us what we want. So let's start up a grass roots effort and boycott both companies. If we can elect our first African-American president via grass roots i'm sure we can teach these 2 fat, greedy companies that they can not get away with this.

Even if you don't care about Sling, your invested in this as it's just a matter of time before they pull some other crap that effects you.

FIGHT BACK, BOYCOTT APPLE AND AT&T. SAY NO TO NEW IPHONES THIS SUMMER!!!!

No.

I plan on buying the latest and greatest iPhone each and every summer. Thank you for you support. ;)
