oh nice, I got it to work

possible solutions to my problem

-removed voipover3g and installed again
-transfered plist file over again and did an over write
-power cycle (not hard reboot)

:)

Read my post again. They have their own slingbox and sling account. They are not gonna watch my box, once they install the software they can login to whatever slingbox they own or have access to

Only problem you may have is that whomever you give this software to, will need your credentials in the future when updates are released.

I bought and downloaded the app early this morning. So far I am impressed. Sure $30 is alot for an Iphone app but it is worth it. Now my Ipod touch has access to Directv and my recorded stuff virtually anyplace in the world a wifi connection is available. I'm satisfied with video and audio quality and the look and feel of the application. I'm using a classic Slingbox which while not officially supported works just fine. Good job!

that us true. But I am not giving it out to strangers. I have enough sling equipped family and friends I can trust not to buy songs apps and movies on my Acct! I can do my part to burn apple/sling/Att by giving this software away! Like I said, not gonna get my money back, but iwill feel better if I can cost them a few hundred dollars in potential sales of this crippled app!

I like the app, sling did a nice job, however I am not impressed with the video quality.

I got Sling Player working over EDGE/3G!!!

Do this:

Add “com.slingmedia.SlingPlayer” to “/Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/VoIPover3G.plist”.

Do a soft restart, then disable WiFi to see if SlingPlayer will start up…should work for you!

For those who know how VOIPOver3G works, I repeat the bundle identifier is “com.slingmedia.SlingPlayer”

…and it works!

I'm curious - does it only work over 3G, or does it also work over EDGE. I have an original iPhone and would love to try this!

I'm not going to be paying the £17 for this app. more than happy to use my T-Mobile mobile broadband connection to watch my slingbox on my laptop.

I think they are ripping people off by charging so much money for the app.

I was really excited about this app until I found out it will not work with the Slingbox AV. I really think Slingbox got greedy on this one trying to force everyone to update to the SOLO, Pro, and Pro - HD. I'd buy a new one but I have to drop cash for the app also. No thanks guys.... good job with alienating everyone else who supported you.

Just got back from the AT&T store, having test driven the Blackberry Bold for about an hour. It's a pretty impressive phone. Bought it, got it set up, and I am now slinging the hell out of my cable TV over 3G. iPhone is in a drawer, don't really care if I see it again.

Don't think the boycott is having much impact, the app is already 19th in paid apps in less then a day. I don't understand the hate for Sling in all this, they developed a great app right now that will only be greater when it is able to use on 3G and Edge.

It does make me wish I could jailbreak and use it on 3G right now but wireless will hold me over until it is available on 3G.

You'll need to jailbreak your iPhone and install the VoIPover3G package (if you haven't already).

Then, FTP into your iPhone and download
/Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/VoIPover3G.plist
to your Mac.

Open this file in Property List Editor.

Add a String for com.slingmedia.SlingPlayer, like this:

Save the updated VoIPover3G.plist and upload the new version to your iPhone (replace the original).

Reboot the iPhone.

And begin Slinging on the subway/wherever you have 3G!

I did all this and I must have done something right because it doesnt say only works with wifi anymore, it says connecting then this message pops up " SlingPlayer cannot connect to your Slingbox. Please make sure your phone and Slingbox are connected to the Internet and try again." (which both are true) and when i switch to wifi it works just fine...why is this?

I have same exact issue!

Me too! Same issue as you...... any ideas?

sling is soooo stupid

This sums up my feelings.

I think they have things all wrong.

Either sell the hardware for a premium and then use the clients to attract more people to buy the hardware, or discount the hardware to get the people to pay a premium for the clients. Doing both is just fail.

Of course this is one of those cases where a company does not know what it is. They have that weird tv site connected to everything that does not make sense. They should stuck to being a slingbox hardware company. the clients should be developed in support of that, not so you can hope to get some people to pay for the same functionality over and over again.

I have my slingbox and it almost NEVER gets used. At this point I would NEVER buy another one. I will wait until someone else comes out with similar functionality and does it properly.

Make sure that you also have the latest firmware for your slingbox AND that you have setup your slingbox and router for internet viewing. The slingbox needs a dedicated port (mine was 5001) to communicate with devices outside of your network that are not PC/Mac based.

After I updated my slingbox firmware and opened a port I could start using the 3g connection with the Iphone slingplayer. Without this you will be able to locate your slingbox, but then get hung on the "connecting" message with an eventual timeout and the message you had about not being hooked up to the internet.

Hope this helps!

Hey I found the solution to my problem, my slingbox wasnt properly set for internet viewing outside of local wifi for streaming (although i did set this before i think what happend was my slingbox reset after a thunderstorm we had here and that didnt reset right) and so i set the internet streaming again, and it works perfect over 3G, hope this works for you

This all reminds me of some advice I got when I was in college (which Apple should follow):

"Don't ask permission and you won't get told no."

Almost...

I can connect to my slingbox tuner through 3g, but not my pro-hd. It might be because I'm using a custom port.... I'll keep working on it, but I'm happy to report success with my old tuner model!! Thanks.
