I never watch TV live anymore--no ads for me! I prefer time-shifting via EyeTV, so I can watch whenever I want. And EyeTV already syncs shows to my iPhone. (I wish there was an EyeTV remote control app though.)

But if I couldn't accept delayed viewing (after my next iPhone sync), SlingBox sounds good.

Notice he said the iPhone was streaming from a TiVo. My SlingBox is hooked up to my TiVo currently and I have no problem skipping commercials, etc. Can't wait for the iPhone Sling client.

I'm sure you are aware of this, but there is a key difference between SlingBox and EyeTV. In reality, you could use EyeTV through your SlingBox player, so that you would never have to "sync" to your iPhone. You could see through the SlingBox player what shows you've recorded on EyeTV and view them exactly as you would at home through your iPhone/iPod Touch.

Your SlingBox player is in a sense a RemoteDesktop viewer (in a sense).

great point. I also happen to own eyeTV miglia max but am very interested in watching live and remote content.

I do think the point he was trying to make though is that he doesn't mind waiting and syncing.

Ok, I don't know too much about this whole Sling thing, so quick newbie question.. I'm moving pretty soon and want to cancel cable. Say I buy a SlingBox and hook it up in my parents home, several states away, who have a huge HD cable package. Could I then watch any channel that they get over broadband on my iMac and eventually iPhone? That would definitely make the cableless transition easier..

you would need to have your own cable box over at their place ... but yes. (otherwise you'd be stuck watching what they're watching, or piss them off by changing the channels all the time)

So this requires tivo?

I have my DVR hdmi connected to my TV right now. How would the slingbox get connected? Maybe from DVR to slingbox then to TV. Hopefully it has a passthrough and doesn't degrate the hdmi 1.3a signal. Also, how does the slingbox change the channel of my DVR? Not sure I understand this unless it's only for tivo and other partners.

The slingbox comes with IR extensions to change channel and you configure a virtual remote to be the same as your tivo remote.

well then, imo, this is better news than anything from Phil this week :)

I concur!!

I just got FiOS TV and have 80 bazillion channels. I'd love to be able to not only watch on my Mac, in HD, but also to watch stuff when traveling with my iPhone. Heck, I can imagine using this atthe new Yankee Stadium and not ever missing a play while waiting for concessions, peeing or turning my head. I missed something? Rewind my DVR via iPhone/Slingbox and watch again. Was he really safe? Let's go back and find out.

This app excites me highly.:D

Ah, not a bad approach. How about the wiring of the audio/video signal from the DVR? Does it connect via HDMI to the slingbox and the slingbox has HDMI out to the TV for when you are watching regularly without slingbox?

I'm trying to go to the sling site but it's taking a whiiiillleee to load

I have Slingbox on my SonyEricsson P1i already. It works great-- You iPhoners will LOVE it!

I just took an old VCR with a TV tuner and plugged it into the cable in the basement and hooked up Slingbox to it. Now, I won't bother anyone watching tv at home while I'm away flipping channels!

This is great, but there is a much simpler app that they could make so easily.

I wish they would make an iPhone version of the remote control (with the picture of the real remote, like on the desktop app), so I can control the TV on my iMac from across the room.

I'm sure there are lots of people like me who only use their Slingbox as a way of getting TV on to the computer in the same house. A simple slingbox remote app would be perfect.

Great. Now I will be able to watch my Dallas Cowboys disappoint me while I am on the road :)

They need to completely rewrite the slingplayer app for Mac, and keep parity with the windows version. The windows version has DVR functionality and channel guides at the moment. The windows version is also stable, something which cannot be said about the mac version.

I'm sure a lot of people will see this news and go out and buy a slingbox, just know that the mac software as of right now is ABYSMAL.

Another reason

Yet another reason to get an iPhone.

Can't wait until May to say goodbye to Sprint :)
