Smart Adhesive Is Key to Crease-Free Foldable iPhone Display

I know they tested the Find N6 up to 1,000,000. The 600,000 was apparently the crease. Even if that was to failure, if I open/closed it 20 times per day @ 1,000,000 that would last ~137 years. Realistically it's not the number of folds at this point, something else will cause it to fail.

Only issue would be a thin line separating the two displays ... would be equivalent to probably a dozen pixels in width or so, mebbe. There's folks who would find that unacceptable.

Adhesive... yeah that won't fail over time or anything. I'm a little more happy when things are designed to fail over time a little less obvious. I guess since we all buy new phones every year now, this is going to be the norm.

You have clearly never met my wife, or two teenage daughters. "Average user" in this household opens their foldy folds and all other devices that connect to reels, toks, or any other blip of social consumption about 300x per day. No foldable is going to late in great condition more than 3-6 months for most of the average younger users out there.

I love Apple, always have. But his will be a HARD pass for me. If I need that size, iPad mini in my bag and phone in my pocket.

I don’t think I’m overlooking the crease. The crease literally disappears when the screen is on. Using it outside, however, in bright sunlight, I definitely can see it. I don’t usually use my phone outside, other than maybe a quick text or taking pictures.

I’ve completely given up buying new phone phones every year, there is just no point such incremental changes are pretty meaningless it’s better to wait a few years and then well I don’t know what I’ll be going for, but the way I see the current design language at the moment I’m not particularly keen on any of their designs. Maybe it’s 20th anniversary phone will bring something better than the design at the moment, which for me is something I will never buy so at the moment I’m sticking to my 16 pro.
Anyway I bought the Studio XDR display and I’ve got my M4 Max studio from last year and a M5 iPad Pro 13” that’s enough money Apples had from my wallet for a while. The M5 iPad already has a tiny scratch on the bezel. God knows how that happened but it gets hard use so I expect knocks and bumps hence AppleCare in case the screen ever gets cracked. As to the folding phone no way.
First of all never buy anything from any company that’s a revision one device the revision two will be much better like the old days of the Apple S series phones which always cleared up the problems of the previous year. As I see it phones really shouldn’t have moving parts, like folding mechanisms. It’s just asking for trouble. Although I do see the fascination with them.

i know the technology is very different from phones of yesteryear, but I’ve had plastic screens before, and I don’t care for them.
I’m a jeweller so frequently have fine particles of metal about my person, namely my fingertips. My previous iPhones glass was scratched after one swipe at the workshop.

I would love a foldable, but not for the price. I'm not going to whip out your iPad or MacBook Pro on out on a sidewalk. (Maybe you will?) Foldable makes sense, because for most one hand tasks I'll just do it on the 1 display, then if I need something bigger, I'll open it up to make it bigger. Again, the price point is wayyyy too much for me though.

They are not getting rid of the crease. It's always going to be there. It's just physics or nature or whatever the hell you want to call it. You fold something perfectly in half, it's going to crease.

I'm torn. I have a 17PM for most stuff and carry a iPad mini 7 when I do rounds and take notes in a FM Pro database, so the mini size is perfect for that without being too difficult to handle/carry around all day. I tried a iPad Pro 11 but found even that to be too big/heavy because I'm mobile all day. On a desk, it would be perfect or I'd get a laptop.
All that to say, a foldable phone as described would be the best compromise of both my current devices and more pocketable. I'd miss the excellent cameras on the 17PM, but honestly my pictures are for personal enjoyment and even the output on recent devices that aren't Pro are nice enough to my non-photographer eye. Decisions, decisions...
Agreed, if occasionally. If frequently, it does have the outer screen, so access is 1-hand.
Myself having to access my iPad mini not just occasionally when out and about takes too long and is tiresome. Grabbing a foldable from a pocket or pouch and opening it is much faster than pulling an iPad or laptop from a backpack. There is no iPad Pocket or MacBook Pocket.
I am glad to hear that! Too many Obsessive Crease Distress comments for my taste.
Some people bend over backwards trying to argue that frequent bending will lead to premature ending.

People are different: When I played with my colleague‘s Samsung Fold, the crease was what bothered me most from the second I opened it. Followed by plasticky feel of the screen and device thickness when folded close.
