Glad they are at least aware of the complaints.
Yes, but it is advised to give that feedback... the more feedback there is, the stronger the case.

This how it works for Apple. Not only for customers but also for business-to-business.

For my line of work I also have contact with Apple for my company and there it works the same, only there my complaints are noted as a company and they themself (Apple) will register it and handle it for me. But its is the same procedure.. adding "evidence" and building cases to get it higher in the tree.

Yep, I've done that a few times about this issue already.

After finally getting out to do some photos, yeah, the 12 Pro overall took better photos than the 13 Pro. The results on the 13 Pro seem to flip flop between overprocessed and underprocessed to where they look like photos from a phone camera circa 2014. But then other times the photos turn out great. I'm going to guess that the inconsistency is due to a software bug, and the over-processed nature of some of the photos just needs some tweaking. I hope these fixes come soon, though.

Surely this will be fixed in an update, especially if enough people raise the issue? I'll hang on a while before deciding whether to cancel my order for my iPhone 13 Pro.

On that dpreview site, people said the issue persisted even when shooting raw from a third party app.
That would point to this being a hardware issue.

That would suck if true- I have a 13 pro in the way, from my carrier so it’s a $35 restocking fee if I return it.

I haven't seen this issue using ProRaw or Raw with third-party apps. But I'm not pixel peeping.

I eventually wound up here because I was wondering what was going on with my photos. I noticed that my new iPhone 13 Pro took photos that looked different from what appeared in the viewfinder. [I realized that the same happened after a software upgrade on my previous phone, an iPhone XS.]

Reading up on the Camera app settings made me realize that there was no more option for Smart HDR and that Scene Detection was absent on iPhone 13s.

Is anyone on the iOS 15.1 beta? I wonder if they’ll be restoring these settings in the update next week.

I think they need more time to decide if they intend to revert this behaviou, doesn't look like 15.1 will change anything yet

I'm wondering what to do now; I really want a 13 Pro and had ordered one (but cancelled it due to these issues). I currently have an SE 2 which I do like, but my wife has a 6 Plus stuck on iOS 12 which is painfully slow now. I planned to get a new phone and give her my SE 2.

I'm now wondering whether to hang on for a 13 Pro in the hope this is simply a software issue that Apple will soon address, or wondering if I should look to a different phone altogether. A 12 Pro or even 11 Pro perhaps? 🤷‍♂️

Do your proraw shots look nice and sharp?
Yes… extremely. I use Lightroom mobile to edit my photos. I haven’t found a better app as of yet that does as good or better than Lightroom. My ProRAW photos look their best when using Lightroom. I’ve tried many, but I’m staying with Lightroom

I don't think it's worth to get an older phone just for this. It's a damn good phone for everything else. I now use the standard camera app and don't care anymore. You can always use third party apps and shoot RAW

I just got a new 13 Pro (from a XS). I immediately noticed issues with large parts of a basic photo appearing out of focus. I'm updating from the factory release (15.0) to 15.1 to see if that helps.

The HDR looks pretty good, but a lot of indoor shots definitely seems to more aggressively blur around the edges, and there seems to be a delay when viewing photos in the camera roll. (15.1)

Have you noticed any changes on iOS 15.1?

HDR still wonky under 15.1. For instance, if I took a photo of a lit up sign at night, let's say, a standard McDonald's sign, with the 12 Pro it would accurately reproduce the signs colors with HDR. On the 13 Pro it does not and signs like that look washed out.

That's just one example but something that is easy to reproduce.

For me the issue is that since iOS 15, photos no longer have the same peak brightness and that is a major issue. Video is OK. Even photos shot before the upgrade are no longer showing properly.

Not sure if this is what you mean, but do you have "Show full HDR" Off in Settings > Photos?

Just got my 13 Pro yesterday and immediately ran into the HDR issue. I do a lot of closeup photos for work and this camera is quite noticeably worse than my iPhone X that was was using previously. The HDR makes everything look washed out and overexposed, and the larger aperture makes everything blurry. No fine details in any photos now. All fuzzy. Very disappointed.

No, it’s different to that. It also comes and goes. You can point your camera at something and change from photo to video and the dynamic range is now noticeably different sometimes. Then you can go to edit a flat, under-exposed outdoor shot and only in edit mode on does it display in HDR, even without any edits, and if you do make any adjustments it will then display in HDR permanently.

If you are playing a video recorded and get a phone call, the screen will go extra bright and after you hang up video will then be blacked out, with the rest of the screen remaining very bright until you quit Photos.

I would encourage others to open their photos with undesirable HDR, select edit and see if that looks better. Just make the slightest change if you are happy with the result and save it and it should show the higher peak brightness and other changes. Even colours can be different.

I would like to encourage everyone experiencing this issue to send feedback to Apple:

https://www.apple.com/feedback/camera/

Based on the shots I’m seeing from people using third-party apps, it’s the Camera app’s aggressive HDR processing that’s at fault here. [These are from other threads.]

So I’m thinking that if more people report this bug, maybe Apple will take notice.

[Though, the cynic in me is thinking that Apple is more likely to respond when a tech blog or a news site reports on the issue.]

Just submitted some feedback, I highly recommend everyone to do the same.

Try shooting in ProRaw.. I feel the same way about my 12PM... even when I turn it off. When I got the 12PM.. it was the first time in years I started carrying a 'real' camera again (X100V) because I disliked the flat/unrealistic/lack of tone images from the 12PM so much.. I have since learned you can 'avoid' this with the use of ProRaw.
So Sad that 13 & 13 mini don't have Apple ProRAW feature, which is what I'm most disappointed for after "upgrading" 12pro to 13mini
