The problem is the dodoback protects it if you set it down flat but when you use the smart cover to prop it up into keyboard tilt mode it doesn't look like it will protect the edge. Although if the dodoback is thick enough it may still work.

True, that could be an issue.

I'm really intreated in the Dodoback too. Wth the nice leather smart cover on the front, I'd like something of comparable quality on the back. From their web site, it sounds like the quality of the materials they use is very important. The outer surface of the skin is actually cloth (from Moraco apparently), so it should feel nice to hold. I'd prefer this over the plastic surface of a lot of other skins.

But the poster above made a very good point. Using the smart cover as a typing stand does cause the outer edge of the iPad to rest against your table. So I'm not sure. I've emailed the company a couple of questions, so hopefully I'll hear back on Monday and I can order something soon. Scratches just seem to inevitable without a protective skin.

Here's a photo of the Dodoback so you can see how close to the edge it protects.

UPDATE:

I received a response about the DodoBack skin. They claim that yes, the skin does cover enough of the back of the iPad 2, so that when it's used in the typing position with the Smart Cover, the skin will touch the table and not the exposed iPad. Here are two photos they sent me for proof. I hope this helps anyone else who might be interested in this skin.

That's nice to know. Have to keep it in mind now. Already ordered the clear skin so I'll see how that works out first.

In the meantime I found some universal screen covers I have, took the scraps and put them on the corners to minimize any scratching until the actual film comes in.

Permanently, at least till you take it off, takes away in my opinion from the overall design of the pad, no thanks, not for me!

my temporary solution is using the neoprene case i got as the "mat" when i need to fold my smart case for typing or watching on my ipad. works great.

I am very interested in both Ghost Armor and BestSkinsEver. Does anyone know if the back protection for the iPad 2 is Matte or Glossy? Also, any idea on wat the feel is like? With ZAGG Invisibleshields, its glossy and grippy. I absolutely hate the grippy feel, and prefer something closer to the actual aluminum's smoothness.

I got the ghost armor matte finish for my iPad 1 and really like it. After a ton of research I settled on it and had it installed at a kiosk in a mall. Lifetime guarantee on the product -- if there is every any problem you can take it back to the location it was installed and get a new skin for just the price is installation -- which i think was like $8 or $10 or something... So I would definitely look into that.

Its held up very well and I love the matte finish look on the back of my iPad.

Good luck with your search.

Can anyone tell me if the bestskinever requires a liquid solution to apply it?

I had a bad experience with my iphone and an invisible shield and managed to water damage the iphone so, cos I seem incapable of doing anything right when water is involved, i'd rather use a film protection that doesn't need water...

Cheers.

I just installed Ghost Armor on my unit last night (back only) and love it so far.

Installation wasn't too bad - I just made sure to thoroughly read the directions and watched a few videos on YouTube before I began. I was very careful to ensure that I didn't have too much excess water that could seep into the unit.

It has a glossy look to it, but overall it doesn't feel slippery in my hands. I. Actually think it may have a little more friction than the naked back.

The Smart Cover still works with it as well. The strength of the magnets doesn't seem to be effected.

Overall I feel 150% better about laying the unit down on any surface knowing that the back isn't exposed. I'm also very glad that I didn't have to sacrifice bulk and weight to protect my iPad.

If you're looking for photos and more info, this poster has a great thread about it: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1119645/

Smartcover is definitely cool and does what it says; it also does nothing for the back ( obviously ). I scratch-tested my iPad2 last night on our corian countertop - I am now not proud to report that my iPad2 has a nice 2" long scratch across the back.

With that said, what are some of the options to augment the Smartcover and provide a little protection for the back, travel sleeves excluded.

eek can't get past the part where you purposely scratched it??!! I've used zagg on my iPhone 4 since day 1 and it's done it's job, thinking I'll do the same for the iPad 2.

Don't protect the back; I am so glad Apple went with no back cover. The back is the beauty of the iPad - you WANT the Apple logo and aluminum to be seen from the back.

I think Apple did this intentionally, not only to have the Smart Cover be very simple to use, but also to let the back of the iPad shine.

Applied BSE for the back yesterday. The application did take a little time, but not hard to do at all, just time spent lining it up correct. BSE has great corner coverage. I recently replaced the Zagg on my iPhone, and noticed the BSE shield is quite a bit thicker than Zagg. Overall, great product.

Has anyone got the iCarbons back cover for their iPad 2?

It looks really nice on the website, and the installation videos make it look like anyone could apply it on without problem. Videos: http://www.icarbons.com/pages/ipad-2-install-videos

Could you please share your experience, thoughts. Thank you.

Edited: Whoops, my bad. I just saw there's a thread about it. But, if you would still like to chime in, I'd really appreciate it.
