1. Texture the back of the phone so it’s not so damn slippery
2. Rubberise the corners
3. use the volume saved from not needing a case to add a bigger battery

I've been saying it for years - someone needs to come up with some solid solar-powered charging solution and start building that into the phones.

While the decreased pixel density of the iPhone XR (being the same as the non-plus iPhone 6/6s/7/8) is lesser than the iPhone Plus models (6 Plus/6s Plus/7 Plus/8 Plus) and therefore feeling a little like a downgrade (despite both still being so dense that a human retina can't see individual pixels), if it meant an increase in processing efficiency, performance, and overall longevity, I'd totally return to the pre-retina days of smartphones. Same with current era laptop and desktop computers.

There really is a very easy fix, the article even covered it.

Just make the phone thicker. There, problem solved.

There's no benefit to having a phone as thin as current iPhones anyway.

Have you seen how many people carry their phones in their pockets or even back pockets? There's certainly HUGE benefit to having a thinner phone that fits better in the pocket without being as noticeable.

Apparently you never had a cellphone in the early '00s and had to deal with carrying around a brick in your pocket.

The logical engineering choice is to make the phones fatter again.

There you go Apple, fixed the issue for you and I won't even charge you for it.

This is incredibly dumb:

Battery company Onavo's CEO believes that consumers should "start getting ready for compromise," settling for smartphones with increasingly bigger batteries that result in larger, heavier devices or lesser technologies like the LCD display in the iPhone XR.

First, the LCD screen in the XR is better than any LCD screen shipped by Apple in prior iPhones.

Second, the battery life issue is solved for iPhones for regular users. If you use your phone for about 1 to 2 hours per day of screen time, you won't possibly run it out during the course of the day. If you are using more than that, well, then it is because you really get a ton of use out of your phone. That isn't a compromise, that is someone who bought a phone that is just turning out great for them.

It is like complaining that you love to drive your sports car but hate that it uses more gas the more you drive it.
You have a good point there, it makes sense. But from another pov, consider 2 exactly identical usecases, one with 6 hours and another with 12 hours. The latter is what people are asking for.

The only thing that can help is make the charging much faster than thr current tech. Let’s say 30 minutes from 0-100%. That would be awesome.

If the wimpy enviroweenie leftists would stop getting their panties waded up all the time about "bad" energy, we could all have nuclear powered phones that would last for decades.

Its not about thickness, it is weight that is the issue with a bigger battery. Too heavy to hold. The X is already too heavy.

I've never understood this complaint. How is an iPhone, any iPhone (I use an 8 Plus) too heavy to hold? We're talking around 200g for the largest models. Is it that people are using bulky cases that practically double the mass of the phone?

Talk about cellphone radiation! :eek::D

Even with the smaller process, these new phones are driving more pixels and have a lot more RAM and horsepower than before. That they’re able to achieve comparable battery life is fantastic. +/- 20-30 minutes is really not a big deal.

If we were talking about 4-5 hour battery life then we would have a real problem.

Here's a billion dollar idea if you find a way to challenge a new era with powering smartphones.

Graphene.

If the UI and all apps and websites were OLED-friendly black, you would see a difference.

Highlight feature of iOS 13, the cat is out of the bag.

Wonder how many Apple customers want a thicker phone?

I sure don't.

I want a translucent phone, why can’t Apple innovate anymore :p

Is that really true? On a balanced device like iPhone XR, the battery represents less than 25% of the weight. The X has more stainless steel which is the heaviest material in the device.

Plus the glass rear added more weight. Liquid metal is where its at, light, strong and durable. Oh no, how will Apple make money if their cannot sell any cases. Add a window area for magnetic attached wireless charging such as the AW and Pencil 2 and it will be an excellent device. One could charge the Pencil 2 on a future iPhone with this setup.

Get a crappier phone to get improved battery life. Brilliant. Time for us all to go to flip phones single-color displays and we'll get a couple weeks of battery life.
Isnt that the same case for cars? Want awd, luxury, 300-400hp you pay for it in Mpg. Want good mpg, you buy corolla. Its been like that for ages and i guess same trend catches up with the smartphones.
