I fiddled with things for a while including logging in and out of iCloud on desktop and phone and restarting both devices. But then I thought, well let me send an SMS from my phone. So I did. At that point, the SMS relay approval stuff came up and then my Mac was all good to go.

So make sure you try sending an SMS to stimulate the process!

This made it work for me. Thanks!

Also, once you log in on your devices, after a fresh install, the Text Forwarding may not show up until you send your first text on the device. That's what happened to me yesterday.

Yep, I just sent a SMS and I got the message on my iPhone. Now waiting for my contact to reply in order to see if it work on the Mac...

EDIT : and now, I can also send SMS from my Mac. Very nice.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone gotten SMS Relay to work with iOS 8 GM and Yosemite Public Beta 2?

I've gotten Handoff to work as far as Safari goes, but I cannot get the SMS Relay prompt to appear on either device. I've tried most of the tips in this thread, so I'm not sure where to go from here.

I'm on GM on my iPhone 5S and my retina MBP is running DP7 and am also getting no prompt to set-up SMS Relay. Any other workarounds to try and get it to work?

Did you try sending yourself a text message to see if you get a pop up? Also, make sure that you are logged into FaceTime and select your phone number. Make sure your phone is set up as well (re: iMessage)

I am running PB 2 and the GM. To get it working, I logged out of iCloud on both the Mac and iPhone. I then shut both down and restarted them. I logged back into iCloud and made sure I was on the same wifi network. Then I sent a text from my iPhone to my wife. After sending the message, I got the popup for the SMS forwarding. I hit yes, and after a few moments I was able to send and receive on the Mac.

I don't have the Yosemite beta at all but I am running the iOS 8 GM on my iPad Air and 5S and I can't get continuity or handoff to work between the two pretty much due to not being able to pair the devices together via bluetooth. Both devices show up in each others device list when bluetooth is turned on and I have imessage and facetime set up on both devices including via my apple id. Am I right to assume that bluetooth pairing needs to be done to have any of this work? Or am I missing something?

How do you turn off icloud on your phone without losing everything?

I am getting handoff to work, but sms relay just won't work.

I have logged into iMessage on my Mac and FaceTime on all devices....

I tried messaging myself, send text to ppl via iMessage and messages via regular text to ppl on non-ios Devices.

I have never recieved the prompt for approval.... Is there a way to manually kick this thing into gear????

Mine was working perfectly with my iPhone 5 and iPad Air (Wi-Fi+LTE) yesterday but appears to have stopped working today... :(

I'm speculating it has to do with apple servers updating/ carriers getting ready for the mass update.

Guys-

Also make sure that your FaceTime accounts are signed into the same Apple ID on both devices. That is where the option comes up for iPhone cellular calling

I was using 8GM on my 5S and 8GM on my iPad Mini, and this worked! However, I still can't get the SMS relay text prompt, but it did get the calling!

Yes, that's all fine - already have that working.

The issue appears to be something Apple has done; whether intentionally or not I can't say. It was working fine yesterday for a lot of people. Likely disabled until the public release date like Siri and Shazam.

Trying to use SMS relay from my iPad, no luck. I have the phone number enabled, but I never got the SMS Relay popup on my iPhone to authorize, I am pretty sure that is the problem.

I can do phone calls and handoff without issues, and I have tried restarting both devices. I tried sending SMS with my iPhone as well, it just won't give me the popup. Hopefully they get this fixed before the 17th...

Same here, it was working fine yesterday. Stopped sometime today or late yesterday on both my Mac and iPad.

Same here. Worked yesterday, was sending and receiving smses on iPad, today it doesnt work.

It seems like there may be some back-end thing Apple is doing to handle SMS relay right now. Mine was working like a champ on iOS 8 GM and Yosemite PB2 and then this morning, nothing.

Guess we just sit tight and see if it magically comes back to life again...hopefully soon!
