I can still receive SMS relay on the MBP but can not send out. The iPad doesn't seems to do either anymore though. Maybe they are just making system upgrades and will be back online soon-ish.

Works for me on my iPad

How so? On my iPad, SMS Forwarding isn't working at all.

Also on my iPad, I get a "Cannot Turn On iPhone Cellular Calls" error when trying to enable Call Forwarding, even though FaceTime and iCloud use the same Apple ID, as seen in the attached screenshot.

Any suggestions from anyone on how to get these features working?

Worked for me on on my iPad and MacBook Pro up until late yesterday, now not receiving SMS on either anymore.

It doesn't make sense to me, that Apple would turn this off during the beta stage, especially one that it made public. I have a feeling that they are going to change the list of devices that can make use of this feature or more narrowly define the extent of its use amongst the various devices.

That is a concerning thought. If they were to exclude the iPad 2 and older MacBooks I will be furious. It worked so well before that I can't imagine they are actually doing that though.

The other thought I had is that maybe Apple found a security hole that left iMessages vulnerable, and instead of making that discovery public or risk someone else finding it out during beta and making a big stink about it, they pulled the feature to work on it some more. Granted, that is just another guess on my part.

Yeah, the release notes mention iOS 8 update being needed. Probably due to the current 8 and Yosemite not being in tandem with one another

After the DP8 1.0 update today...the SMS function went away

Update:

From the DP 8 release notes...

Handoff Known Issue

- Using Handoff to pass an untitled TextEdit document between two Macs may not work. Saving the document first and waiting 5-10 seconds before attempting Handoff may resolve this issue.

SMS Note

- SMS Continuity is not currently available for testing. It will be available in October via a free update to iOS 8.

:(

Yeah I read the notes, but I noticed the "switch" was turned off in DP 7 probably in preparation for this update

Mine stopped working last night. My iPhone crashed and rebooted. I then had issues getting it to recognize my SIM card.

After that, I no longer got SMS messages on my iPad.

Same problem here. Was working fine on my phone and iPad until the other night n

Hey Guys!

I finally got it figured out! After changing two airport cards on my mac and resetting my iPhone and iPad, I finally found the problem to the SMS relay bug where you can receive SMS on your iOS8/yosemite devices but cannot send SMS except from your iPhone.

You need to enable receiving iMessages on your iPhone using your iCloud login.

Settings -> Messages -> Send & Receive -> You can be reached by iMessage at: "username@icloud.com" needs to be selected.

As soon as I selected this I was able to text using my iPad Mini Retina.

This also worked for me after enabling my iCloud address on both macbook and iPhone.
