Does anyone else have this problem?

Since Leopard I've had the side buttons on my Mighty Mouse enabled to trigger spaces, and whenever I would point my cursor over another space and squeeze again, it'd take me there. Seems like that's gone with this new build, I get sent back to the Space I was in before. :( :( :(

Upgrading

I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard and everything went fine, but I was unable to receive updates. Then I reinstall Snow Leopard on a clean disk and now I am able to get updates from Apple's software update.

open up terminal and type

uname -a

You should see the 64 somewhere at the end of the line.

Alternatively you can just open System Profiler, and under Software you will see "64 bit kernel and extensions" yes or no (enabled or not). Or you can have a look at Activity Monitor where you can see if kernel_task is 64 bit intel or just intel (32 bit).

To activate the 64 bit kernel you can add arch=x86_64 to your kernel flags's value in com.apple.Boot.plist in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration. The plist is write protected, so I chose, among other solutions, to use TextMate to save changes with admin rights. You can also press the 6 and 4 keys at boot until the Apple logo shows up.

On my MacMini 2009 (the one with the 9400M chipset), these tricks do not work however, even though it is operated by a 64 bit Core 2 Duo. I guess I will have to wait for Apple to enable it by default.

Slow Right-Click Menu

When I right click on a misspelled word to select from the auto-correct list, it takes FOREVER for the menu to come up, and causes the entire application to freeze until it does.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a fix?

This is a problem on all Snow Leopard builds since 10a380 for me.

Nevertheless, Snow Leopard is blazingly amazing, and my battery life has extended considerably. I love this OS, and this bug is my only main detraction, since I write a lot.

Ya, as I mentioned earlier it isn't enabled for all models yet. It's not determined by the cpu at this point, meaning that even if your system has a 64 bit capable cpu, it still might not be available. It's an intentional limitation that Apple has instated for the dev builds.

My 13" Unibody (late 2008) doesn't allow it yet either, but I hear the 15" works.

Marble isn't a complete new UI, Marble is a version of Aqua. I didn't think that would be such a tough concept for people to grasp
It's a pretty tough concept to grasp when you realize there are no "versions" of Aqua. As I stated earlier, Aqua has changed and improved over time, and it continues to do so in Snow Leopard.

There is no such thing as "marble," just like there was no such thing as "illuminous." People are just making up names for UI concepts and ideas that simply don't exist.

Until Apple officially says that Aqua is dead and buried, it is the only UI that will ever be in Mac OS X.

There seems to be a rather pertinent bug in Build 10A402 for me. When I click on a stack in grid view and drag and drop a file from that stack to the trash, it refuses to delete. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Hm. For the people who can't get iStat or Menu Meters to work, what system are you using?

I plan to upgrade the HD in my Mac Mini '09, so I just thought "Hey, lets see how the beta runs on a 64-bit," but although MM and iS worked in Leopard it now wont open. I noticed on the top bar it says "32-bit," so I'm not sure. It's still working flawlessly on my Intel CD MacBook so maybe thats the problem for now.

+1 (MacBookPro4,1)

And :

Drag and drop a selected message from Entourage(12.1.9) to the Desktop do no work.

I know it's already common knowledge that third party pref panes now work, but I just wanted to confirm that Growl appears to be working for me.

Snow Leopard Issues

10A402 has fixed many of Expose's quirks, especially with dock hiding enabled. Spaces is much smoother now as well.

I am running the most recent build of Snow Leopard and loving it! Here's a few issues I'm having. Let me know if you have them too or know of a solution.

1. Handbrake will not rip DVDs correctly. Either it crashes, or the video comes out distorted.

2., right clicking on a misspelled word to bring up the menu with the correct spelling is painfully, unusably slow.

3. I don't know if this is unique to SL, but scrolling through a multi-paged PDF refreshes with a lot of lag.

Will we be able to use migration assistant with Time Machine to transfer files and settings to the retail version on SL once we buy and install it in September?

What hardware do you have? MBP what graphics and cpu?

Your the only one I know that has any Menu or Metering program working. What Haxie are you using to get them to work. Or are you running them in Leopard.... not SL?

In my previous post, I stated it must be a hardware issue. I have SL on my Late 2006 MacBook and 2009 Mac Mini, so no, I am not running them in leopard.

They work flawlessly on my 2006 MacBook, I already had them installed and they continued to work.

However, I installed them on Leopard on my Mini, and then decided to upgrade it to SL, and thats when they stopped working. When clicking on the preference, it says it has to reboot System Pref, and at the top bar is says "32-bit," but none of the iStat menus would activate, and Menu Meters froze when trying to activate.

One of the major differences between my two Macs is my MacBook is a Core Duo and the mini's a Core 2 Duo, so perhaps, it has something to do with the hardware.

Using the CPU monitor:
Left is the error I get on the mini
Right is the CPU monitor working on my MacBook. The fanspeed & HD activity is also present in the menubar.

So i didnt really know where else to ask but my lightscribe software is not buring discs correctly under snow leopard. Im currently using the lacie disc labeler. I wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing the same problem or knows of any other software to try other than disclabel which is working somewhat but only allows me to burn a label the size of half the cd.
