i'm starting to really hate apple for not allowing options for how you want to tweak your user experience.

hmm.... I guess you haven't been a long time Apple user then. Since at least System 6 and likely before (but I only have experience with 6 and up) Apple has not given users the ability to tweak the GUI. For that you have to rely on third party products. Don't ever expect Apple to let you directly tweak the GUI that much. It's not part of their design philosophy and I like that. Most users have a vey poor design taste.

Hmm, iStat Menus doesn't work for me in the latest build (it hasn't worked in any build).

When I try and enable for example CPU or Network or anything in the System Preferences, I get this error: iStat menus could not load the cpu extra.

What have you done to make it work?

Thanks
I've had it installed since 10.5.5

I can't believe nobody else has clicked the menu bar at the top of the screen yet. The highlight is now purple instead of blue (blue remains for list highlighting etc). Kinda matches the brighter purple of the new default background :)
It's still blue... Did you maybe change the highlight color of your theme or something?

I hate how the iMac remote automatically opens iTunes now when I press play. Did they ever consider that people use it with VLC or quicktime?

Because it's not. You must've changed it.

very bad, indeed! that's a deal breaker for me, to be honest. i tried working without menu meters one day and i felt like i was missing an arm.

They probably havent gotten their hands on SL to develop for it, or it's still WIP. Even so, if it is finished, why would they release it before the initial SL release? So only the handful of people who got their hands on the beta can toy with it?

Is this new?

it may be a good idea to send a email to the author of menumeters to know what he thinks ...

Just did that. Here's the correspondence:

Anyone who knows how long it takes before Apple sends you the activation code for my ADC Select membership I bought today? Was kind of hoping it was instant but have been waiting for a few hours already now. Thanks

Thought so too when i bought my iPhone Developer membership but got the activation code the next day. You'll likely get it tonight or tomorrow at the latest.

I guess you need Menu Meters and iStat already installed. Cause both are working and I can access both preference panes just fine.

That's good to know.

Thanks for the info Omega01 :)

Well, duh, don't use it then. It's an option!

Well, submit a bug report to Apple. You're a legitimate beta tester right?

ROFLMAO

Everyone here who is discussing the beta directly is breaking the non-disclosure agreement.

Why surprised? It's beta software. Not everything that could be done to it is done. Or you forget you're running beta software thinking this is a released version?

I know. I don't use the minimize to dock option. I was just putting my two cents in.

And seriously, why does everyone care so much about this non-disclosure agreement? This has become a recurring comment in this thread, albeit far less often than others. Is anyone here afraid that some lawyer from Apple is going to knock on your door? Are any of you here going to call Apple and tell them "So and so is talking about pre-release software on a website!!!" If not, I suggest we stop mentioning it.

MacFly123 - I'm 100% certain there will be UI changes. It's not something Apple would through in randomly last minute (but I could be wrong).

The reason, as someone mentioned before, is perhaps PPC Mac users may feel left out on the upgrade, therefore Apple would not offer a new UI to make it a soft blow. It's similiar with GM and their method of releasing cars with newer color options (they don't want a the two year old purchaser to feel cheated).

So you meant to say you are certain there will NOT be UI changes? Interesting logic.

"Marble" was nothing more than a baseless rumor that someone made up. The name doesn't even make sense--do you really want an interface that looks like marble?

I don't think that is true because I see what Apple is doing currently with UI elements in iLife, iWork, MobileMe, etc. I think those flat multi-toned UIs could very fittingly be described as "Marble".

Also, look at the UI changes they made to Snow Leopard today as evidence.

Find me a statement by Apple stating those UI changes are labeled as "Marble."

Marble isn't a complete new UI, Marble is a version of Aqua. I didn't think that would be such a tough concept for people to grasp

Cause it doesn't exist. Hard to grasp something thats made up by fans.

It's true that Marble doesn't exist according to Apple (at least not publicly), but most of us just use it as an easy way of referencing the UI changes they are making to their software, so don't get so bent out of shape when someone mentions it.

It doesn't matter if Apple doesn't call it Marble, the fact of the matter is that Aqua is changing, it's been changing since 10.0, everyone knows that. If people want to call the new version of Aqua Marble, then so be it. Fine, it's not a new UI, and it's not officially recognized by apple, so what? People like to call it marble. I just don't see why people go "NO! APPLE DOESN'T CALL IT MARBLE SO NOBODY ELSE CAN CALL THE CHANGE IN AQUA MARBLE!! ZOMGG!!"

It's still blue... Did you maybe change the highlight color of your theme or something?

It's back to blue after booting now, but I swear it was purple on the first boot. I haven't changed anything since the fresh install, but think about it - changing the highlight color doesn't change the menu highlight only the list highlight. As I said at the time, my list highlight color was still blue :p

Must've been a temporary glitch or maybe a hidden feature I enabled by accident. I'll keep an eye out.

I see, it just confuses me cause people refer to it as "HUD" and "Marble."
