what do you mean a few concessions? maybe its too long since a i used tiger but i thought you could set it to work pretty much like it did in tiger

Nope, instead of right clicking it, in Leopard, to get the list of the folder's contents you must now left click. It's a big loss for power users everywhere

re: Activity Monitor on your desktop: would be nice to have a clear visual aid for when I need to check available memory.

What's wrong with choosing the Activity Menu menu item:

View, Dock Icon, Show Memory Usage

??

You can have it automatically load at statup, then there is the pie chart you want in your dock. No need for GeekTool on this one.

Bring back the pinstripes - just a little! I was playing with Tiger the other day and they look great.

Also Finder should have a toolbar button for the Go Enclosing Folder (aka parent) function.

And column mode (which rules, btw) should have the option of when you enter column mode for a folder, all the parent columns back to the root are pre-opened, just scrolled to the left out of view.

What I'd really like is fhtye reversed the assignments of the "New Finder Window" and "New Folder" keyboard shortcut commands. I'm sorry, but CMD+SHIFT+N is inconsistent with CMD+O, CMD+P, CMD+DOWN-ARROW, etc., and needlessly so.

I agree, mainly because under pre mac os x, CMD+N did create a new folder. You know that you can switch these your self though don't you via system preferences? The basis idea is outlined here if you aren't already aware: http://guides.macrumors.com/Changing_Keyboard_Shortcuts

Really looking forward to Snow Leopard myself. The more features I find out about the more excited I get. :D

If only they'd bring back the "more" button in Spotlight for a certain type of file. I hate how all you can do is show all if it's not in the top 5 of a file type :( :(

I want them to bring back the old Spotlight Window that wasn't a jacked up Finder window like it is now.

And I would love for them to make Time Machine not f*&k up my whole system when running Final Cut, have ME choose when it backs up (i.e. every day or week even) and allow me to configure the dock anyway I'd want to.

Just for starters.

Finder

I've got a few requests that I don't think would take all that much to implement..
1) A mix of Column view and QuickLook View (Column view on the bottom, QuickLook on the top)

2) An optional Address Bar in the finder. (I'm an avid mac user, but I have to admit this still comes in VERY handy on a PC)

3) Multiple clipboards built in (for example, Command+C / Command+V would be the same but maybe add Command+Option+C / Command+Option+V or some other combination to allow two or three clipboards)

4) Bring back the slideshow menu option when you right-click on a folder of pictures.

5) Better built in FTP/SFTP/WebDav support through the finder.

6) Doc Grouping (Where if I minimize X number of windows from an application, they get put into one pretty stack on the dock)

I Miss "put away". As an old school mac boy i was used to selecting a disk and hitting :apple:+Y to spit it out (pre Eject Key) and it worked for multiple drives (Floppy & more than 1 CD Drive) You could select 2 cd's and a floppy Hit :apple:+y adn out would pop all 3. Darn sight easier than hitting "Eject" for the Primary (internal) drive and having to drag others to the trash.

I'd use 'Print Selection' daily when sourcing academic references. Would literally save me 1/2 hour every day. If Apple do actually produce all these minor new changes then I'd be very content indeed. Would feel almost like a whole new OS

That is inexplicable why they would not have it...

But I would have thought this was a browser or printer driver issue, not an os one?:confused:

There's a service menu add-on called Print Selection Service. I haven't tried it myself as I'm without printer.

My request for snow leopard is the same thing i've been asking for since 10.2, put the service menu on the contextual menu where it belongs. It's such an incredibly useful thing, it shouldn't be buried inside the program menu.

Oh and they should include a preference pane like Peter Maurers service scrubber so I can clean up the service menu and assign keyboard shortcuts.

THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP!

another idea

Nice!... looks good. Would anyone complain if you had the option to change the icon size in grid view, (maybe to be in proportion to the current dock icons with a checkbox option or something). Stacks have the potential to be more powerful, yet remain simple; the ability to scroll through a fan or a grid by page, rather than open remaining icons in the finder. Being able to control a fan or grid proportion may be a bit over the top, but I would find it useful.

They already did, it is in current seed for Service menu, it is called Service Management I believe in it's own perference pane.

There is keyboard shortcut management already in there, but not fully working yet.

i would say they should rather allow the user to easily customize the contextual menu with options from the service menu, applescripts, automator actions etc.
