system wide nfs automounts moved, again

System wide nfs automount controls got a new home in SL for the third location in three release.

10.4 (and pre) they were in netinfo
10.5 they moved to directory utility's advanced options pane
10.6 they moved to a file menu entry on disk utility... no obvious gui link to it, if you don't crawl the menus you won't see it.

The panel it brings up is exactly the same as in 10.5, they must have just moved it when they axed directory utility from the client image. (as noted previously, the actual directory functions of it moved to system preferences panels.)

I was going to start a thread just like this. Here are some of the little changes I have noticed:

1-White highlight instead of blue in some circumstances. This might be a bug.

01.png

2-New iDisk icon.

02.png

3-Minimized windows in the dock show in a small lower section when using expose.

03.png

4-Signal strengths in WIFI menu.

04.png

5-Seperate preference panes for keyboard, mouse, and trackpad.

05.png

6-Icons that show the desktop have of course been updated to the new Snow Leopard wallpaper.

06.png07.png

7-New black empty trash button in the trash finder window.

08.png

8-No more arrow in the indicator for spaces. Nice refinement!

09.png

9-QuickTime 7 goes in the utilities folder.

10.png

10-Change desktop icon sizes with multi-touch pinch to zoom on the trackpad.

11.png

11-Some image files have the white border and others don't. Bug?

12.png

12-Side note... Why on earth has Apple STILL not changed this historic icon for monitors on the menu bar??? They will make a more futuristic light bulb, but not update that?

Wow, how many rules did you violate there?

I'm really sorry. Admin, I tried to do them all in one post but I couldn't get my text staggered between the pictures. It would just lump them all together and you can't tell what text goes with which picture. Is there a way to do that so I don't have to post separately? Sorry about all the posts. Can you combine them for me please admin? Thank you!

As you are using the attachment feature you are limited to five per post, in cases such as this where you are posting more than five it is perfectly fine to multi post.

For future reference it is possible to place the images that you have attached inline with the text

Has anyone figured out how to increase the font size in the Finder sidebar or is it possible at all?

I'm sure someone has already mentioned this. But I just realized yesterday that Front Row new remembers your place if you play something in the movies folder. It did that in Tiger, and didn't do that in Leopard.

Im not sure this is new in SL but I dont remember ever seeing it in Leopard... When you have your print queue up, if you highlight a job in the queue and hit space bar, you will get a Quick Look of what is being printed for that job...

Arrowing up or down will allow you to page through the job to see all the images being printed.

What kind of Mac do you have? And which OS version are you running?

Classic is essentially Mac OS 9.2 running under OS X. But Classic will only run on PowerPC-based Macs, not Intel, and only under Mac OS X 10.4 or earlier. To run OS 9 natively you would need a fairly old PowerPC-based Mac.

1. Ok.

2. Mine was always pink in Leopard, now it is blue.

5. This was not in Leopard. Keyboard and mouse were combined.

10.6.1

new tip i found for today....when bound to an AD in 10.6 and your account has admin privs. Cannot run software updater. Dunno if this is the same for everyone. But software update would not download while on my AD account. It scanned, it found some, I authorized the updates and then it docks it and doesn't do anything. Logged out and into my local admin. worked like a charm.

Still not a fan of reloading pref panes to 32-bit everytime (any work arounds?)

Still not a fan of reloading pref panes to 32-bit everytime (any work arounds?)

Worse still, if you launch one of the 32 bit panes from the dock menu (such as MySQL) when System Preferences is NOT running, it opens, displays the message and then you need to click restart.

You think it wouldn't be beyond their talents to auto-restat if you invoke a 23 bit pane at launch.

Two new things, one found out from the other...

1. Saving a downloaded PDF to another place on the computer results in an extended dialog box, with password encryption now available, as per the attached picture.

2. Cmd-Shift-4, then Spacebar now gives the option of taking a photo of the PDF window OR the pane for saving (hence in my picture only the pane is shown).

Ql Ppt

Did Quick Look always look like this with a PowerPoint? I remember the slides just stitched together, without the slides on the left.

SL flaw? - Open dialog often gives beach ball

I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

Very often the Open dialog takes quite a long time, say 10 - 20 seconds, while the spinning beach ball displays.

I have particularly noticed this with TextEdit, Photoshop Elements, and Pages. But it seems to be a general issue.

Anyone else see this?

Dunno if this ones been covered (didn't read all of this thread due to the length), but holding down Alt (Option) and pressing space bar on a video file for Quicklook makes video go to full screen automatically.

iDisk Public Folder Naming Issue

I suppose this is more of a bug than a hint or tip, but anyway...
As opposed to 10.5, the names of other users idisk public folders when connected to are shown, but not identified specifically, in either in the sidebar or on the desktop.

This is particularly confusing when connected to more than one other idisk public folder, as the naming convention follows thus:
Public
Public-1
Public-2
etc etc...

Instead of what would be really useful (and as in 10.5):
John Doe
Jack Black
Barfney Beanfright
etc etc....

Anyone else seeing this, or is just me?
I've since fired off a bug report anyway.
