although I got my copy last Saturday IMHO the problem is free shipping ( the 25 quid version ) if you do not pay for a service how can you complain ? you are at the mercy of the supplier , they will and do use the cheapest method possible ( maximise profit )

the UTD order in which you have paid for P&P is a different matter and as you have paid for a service then you have a right to a quality service , if this is not provided then you should IMO get a refund

Your missing the point regarding the free shipping, I have pre ordered Tiger and Leopard and ordered new versions of iLife and iWork within 24 hours of them being announced, every time I have picked the free option as the fast shipping was effectively money down the drain as they all shipped courier, Tiger and Leopard arrived on release day, and the iLife's and iWorks promptly arrived within 2-3 of placing my order, I had no reason to think Snow Leopard would be any different, if Apple had a notice somewhere when I was placing my order that the free option was 2nd class Royal Mail I would not have hesitated in paying the £10 fee.

Anyway my order placed on the 24th is still not here I have pretty much given up hope of it coming, but my replacement arranged yesterday has been sat at prepared for shipment all day so it should hopefully be here by Monday at the latest and I will be sending my Amazon copy back tomorrow.

I went to the Trafford Centre store yesterday to pick mine up. Installed it last night, its great!!

Had to re-install Little Snitch but thats no problem, everythings working hunky dory.

Apple Stickers FTW.

I love the QT X interface, i love the black design of the windows, is there a way you can change all windows to black because it is sexy.
:apple:

Still in the same boat. Ordered the Family Pack on the 24th, shipped 27th and it's not here. I called Apple today and they said that it's more than likely to be lost in the post because it was shipped with Royal Mail :)confused: why did they bother with them then?) so they arranged a replacement to be sent out, which I should receive on Monday at the latest.

I suggest calling Apple if you haven't got it yet. They're very, very eager to please, which made me feel quite satisfied. In fact every time I've called Apple they've gone above and beyond :)

Because sadly there isnt really a cheap alternative to RM in the UK. If things are sent via courier the price is likely to increase.

Time to privatise the RM...its *****.

You don't seem to understand that the "free" shipping is a cost factored in to the price of the products Apple (and virtually every company online) sells.

Shipping for large companies like Apple costs virtually nothing. They have deals in place with the Royal Mail and couriers (to suit different needs - size, priority etc.) that mean they can send each item at a very discounted rate.

Other retailers (such as Amazon and Ebuyer) don't actually ship their products using slower services (like second class) when you use free/discounted shipping, they simply don't process the order as quickly.

There are a few other issues that are cause for complaint IMO:

- Apple's shipments of Snow Leopard to OTHER retailers were delayed, so that they could not ship the product out for the release date. Add in the bank holiday and strikes and it just prolongs the amount of time people can't get their hands on the product. This did not happen in the United States
- Apple charged about £3.75 more in the UK than they did in the US (including adjusting the prices for tax). That would have EASILY paid for first class postage at even the most expensive rates.
- These orders were pre-orders with several days notice. Apple could have shipped the products on the Wednesday instead, in order for the deliveries to take place on the Friday. In the US, orders were shipped at carefully selected times so that people got their Snow Leopard DVD on-time.

With

I pre-ordered it on the 25th, it showed shipped on the 27th and still haven't received it. Have they really lost this many orders?

My £25 copy has finally arrived. Sorry, but 2nd class post was a cheap-ass thing to pull Apple, particularly as they knew RM were striking in parts of the UK.

I ordered the upgrade (£26 including postage) from Amazon yesterday. Arrived today. I'm debating on whether to wait a month or so before installing it as it sounds like it has loads of bugs.

Strikes where? Last industrial action was 2 weeks ago. (I work for RM)

Yay......its still not here:mad:, good work apple/royal mail/the dutch posted on the 27th and still not here, good work

If on the Apple site it has a status of shipped, the fault is with RM.

If anyone wanted it guaranteed for a certain date, then courier delivery should have been used rather than a cheap, untracked service from a crappy, what could be considered best endeavors delivery company.

If I want my mail to eventually turn up smelling of smoke then I go with Royal Mail.

If I want my deliveries to turn up on time, not battered and not smell like an ash tray, I get courier delivery. Plus, their stuff is tracked. And I can collect it at 1900 cos they don't shut at 1700 when I'm at work

utter rubbish tbh, royal mail has always been brilliant for me, ive ordered stuff at 5pm on some sites that dispatch via first class and ive ALWAYS got it the very next day, this IS apples fault if they are shipping it from the Netherlands!

anyway, yeah its still not here, **** off apple.

Amazon.co.uk is pretty reliable, ordered on the 1st with free super saver delivery, dispatched on 3rd, arrived today :)

Would just like to post my annoyance and experience with Apple and the up-to-date program in the UK.

I bought a new MacBook Pro on the day of the June announcement. I tried to get the up-to-date through the online store which didn't work no matter how many times I tried, so I resorted to printing it out and posting my application.

Now two weeks after release and no disc I decided to phone up and find out where it was. Basically, it was stuck in the system for no reason whatsoever and hadn't been sent out.

I had a massive moan after confirming I had paid for it ages ago and was eligible for the upgrade. I was then told that it needs to be escalated and will be sent out soon. Not good enough! So after going mad they said they would get a disc sent out to me straight away.

Just thought I would post this in case anyone else had been waiting longer than expected with no idea where their disc is.

The only thing that is rubbish is stating that my personal experince with RM is rubbish.

It's not something I dremt up, its based on expience. And as I said, if the order status is shipped, how is the fault not with RM?! If it is "Not Yet Shipped" then you are right to blame Apple in which you should be on the phone!

And the key statement in your post is first class. This isn't coming first class, it's coming second class. And when I spoke to Apple, they advised me to wait 1 - 15 days for delivery

And the shipment from the Netherlands is the bulk shipments to a depot in Leicestershire where it would then be sent out using your chosen shipment method.

They are not shipping from the Netherlands. I suspect the payment for postage is done from a Dutch account, however the items ship from Logis Park in Hinckley.

The sender is responsible for shipping things in a way that will meet the expectations of its customers.

Using your logic, Apple could have strapped the discs to carrier pigeons and then be absolved of all responsibility for their delivery.

They CHOSE to use a poor method of delivery, so they should expect to suffer the wrath of their customers.
