I'm guessing it'll be the same deal as taking screenshots. You aren't allowed to take videos while Quicktime etc. are open.
But now you need to have Quicktime open to take the screencasts...

I've been using Snapz Pro and love it. Will be interesting to see what Apple brings to the table.
what happened to "no new features"
I actually quite enjoyed that.![]()
This will be a nice little extra for OS X. I honestly do want some new features in SL....in addition to the speed!!! I think they'll have to add some new features in OS X for Snow Leopard to appear "New" to the switchers out there. A little odd that they're adding this on an update though.![]()
Screen flow is one of the best 3rd party apps, period, let alone the best screen recording app. I would much prefer it if Apple just bought their company and made the application even better in terms of integrating with other apps in iLife and iWork.
Yes! This is awesome! Hope it can do window recordings too.AppleInsider reports on one new feature that has been found in the latest Snow Leopard developer seeds: screen recording.

What will Microsoft's counterpart be? Microsoft ScreenRecord for Windows?![]()
If it was Microsoft the world would be screaming for another round of antitrust law suits![]()
Early reports of that build indicate it's become even more stable and "polished" but no other new features have been noted.
It's done in motion jpeg. Not good enough to capture movies from youtube.
A little odd that they're adding this on an update though.![]()
Why in Quicktime Player?
Apple needs to have the DVD Player and QuickTime combined into a single multimedia player that plays everything. They can just change the interface depending on the type of media being played. So DVD player interface when DVD is inserted, mini Itune player if music is playing or QuickTime interface if any video is playing.
Screen recording should be part of the Grab.app but combined with Image Capture, Podcast capture into a Capture.app or something cool.
Agreed, IF this feature sticks around in its current form. I highly doubt there will be any video recording allowed (or at LEAST restricted by DRM). Why everyone is so hysterically excited is beyond me. Apple is known for locking simple features out of things. The easiest example is video recording on the iPhone (although it works flawlessly on my jailbroken iphone)....and will sport all the wonderful conveniences of DRM.
Lame.

why don't you just... download these videos? you can do it by using Activity in Safari, for exampleDoes this have a nice enough quality to be used to record full screen youtube or hulu videos?
Why would a recording feature constitute anti trust allegations?![]()
