Sweet. I hope this means we'll see a lot more video tutorials on your average blog.

I actually quite enjoyed that. :D

This will be a nice little extra for OS X. I honestly do want some new features in SL....in addition to the speed!!! I think they'll have to add some new features in OS X for Snow Leopard to appear "New" to the switchers out there. A little odd that they're adding this on an update though.

:D Lol

Screen flow is one of the best 3rd party apps, period, let alone the best screen recording app. I would much prefer it if Apple just bought their company and made the application even better in terms of integrating with other apps in iLife and iWork.

I have Screenflow but I just find it ok. I didn't find the learning curve steep but it wasn't as intuitive as I was hoping. I eventually figured out how things worked and then it was an ok app but I find I learn much easier with Apple software. I just "get" how to use it, which is why I'm looking forward to this feature.

iShowU is pretty good for this. Unlike Snapz you don't have to wait for it to render afterwards. It's just ready to go. Looking forward to seeing what Apple comes up with.

Good point. Why didn't they include this is the previous seed? Didn't they want to find the bugs in it!? Don't they know that we're all eagerly trying to infer what the final release will look like by the presence or absence of something in the seeds? Adding this in the latest seed calls all kinds of things into question. What's next? PPC support? :D :p

Why in Quicktime Player?

Apple needs to have the DVD Player and QuickTime combined into a single multimedia player that plays everything. They can just change the interface depending on the type of media being played. So DVD player interface when DVD is inserted, mini Itune player if music is playing or QuickTime interface if any video is playing.

Screen recording should be part of the Grab.app but combined with Image Capture, Podcast capture into a Capture.app or something cool.

Maybe Apple's having a shake up, but we're not being told yet? Quicktime is being billed as

- Streamlined platform for modern media and internet.
- Optimised support for modern codecs
- More efficient media playback

They're bringing in a lot of tech and software that will help the manipulation of video (transcoding, editing etc). They're saying it's a platform. They mention playback, but what's to stop them having efficient media encoding or editing - will Apple really wait till next year to add optimisation for concurrency/parallelism for iLife? Or would they add it to Quicktime/iTunes, then update iLife next year?

Seeing as iPhone is getting video recording and editing, they've got a chance to move things around a bit. They're telling us some features, but being vague about them, and not mentioning others. All part of the surprise and fun.

...and will sport all the wonderful conveniences of DRM.
Lame.
Agreed, IF this feature sticks around in its current form. I highly doubt there will be any video recording allowed (or at LEAST restricted by DRM). Why everyone is so hysterically excited is beyond me. Apple is known for locking simple features out of things. The easiest example is video recording on the iPhone (although it works flawlessly on my jailbroken iphone).

Being used for PODCAST COMPOSER

This I believe has been implemented for the reason stated above which will be a great way to make podcast tutorials with podcast composer, which will be part of Snow Leopard

Why would a recording feature constitute anti trust allegations?

more joking than being serious, but the general response to Microsoft adding a feature to Windows is accusations of abusing power etc etc, Internet Explorer is an old favorite but there seems to be many options out there and they seem to be taking a respectable market share but people still need to sue.

i hope Apple acquired ScreenFlow from the developers, since it's such a great app it would be disheartening for Apple to just step on their toes with their own free version.
