Also, I find it kind of ridiculous that people apparently join this forum for the sole purpose of bashing Mac users and trolling all over legitimate concerns. If you don't like Macs, WHY DID YOU JOIN AN APPLE DISCUSSION FORUM? Seems to me like some people have a secret passion.

For me, same reason I joined forum.notebookreview.com, to learn more about my machine (HP laptop, in that case) and the software that runs on it.

Simply put, I like things that work. I went the extra step to put XP on my HP laptop when it shipped with Vista cause I didn't like Vista; after SP1 for Vista, I find that it is a better OS and am more likely to use it than XP.

I tried W7 RC (both on the HP and iMac) and like it a lot; I pre-ordered the upgrade and will do a clean install as soon as it arrives.

Likewise, I like the iMac and Leopard a lot; just as advertised, it "just works". I ordered the upgrade SL disk but, because of the numerous posts here, will wait awhile to install.

Everything is running great here and Safari and all apps are faster. I do have just a couple of programs and a mouse that need updates. But those well be available soon I've been told.

i'm in the exact same boat, amigo

Why is it that some people here always believe that because something does or doesn't work on their ONE machine it's generally crap and state that as a fact?

I have upgraded 2 computers to 10.6 with zero issues, just upgraded without a clean reinstall and everything works. And I have a decent amount of apps installed. Does that mean it works on every Mac out there? No.

Windows XP crashes every so often on my mbp, does this mean it crashes the same way for everyone? No.

Posts like "I have upgraded to xy and now it doesn't work xy IS flawed, xy IS crap buhu" are extremely stupid and won't get any help. Tell about your system, what exactly you did and what exactly is not working in a calm way and there might be some help.

Because folks get emotional and frustrated when something doesn't work.

A few people posted here something very important; this thread is not helpful, other than giving some of us a place to bitch. I certainly did my share.

It feels really good to bitch. That's why some of us did it (again, hand in the air). But, it's wrong. Heat, not light.

Most of my issue was wireless connectivity. It seems that SL is having problems with some routers/ISP providers that assign IP addresses dynamically. The solution is to set it to static. I've answered 3 threads here with that suggestion, and it seems to be the solution.

It takes two to make a handshake, both wirelessly and personally. Here's mine.

Stupid

It is good to bitch sometimes, and can be a very valuable experience, to get it out of your system.
The title of this thread, however, is just ****ing stupid.

Nuke and pave...

Yes, the claim is that they just work, but all it takes is one process or thread on one app that can cause a lot of problems. Look at Activity Monitor > All processes and see if you notice anything. I would inventory every app on your machine and check for updates that could fix your problem(s). If they don't already have an update, it may be pending in the coming weeks.

I would do as others have advised, copy all the data off and erase the drive with disk utility before the install. I have had no issues with SL on 3 different machines, but they were all erased.

In my experience over the years, nuke and pave install is always better (and is essential with Windows), but with Macs, more often than not an upgrade works well and exhibits no issues. You just have an exception that is caused by some piece of software or bad driver. Good luck!

I feel bad for the people that are having problems.

I am with the majority. Mine runs perfectly. My brother and I bought the family pack ($50 package) and while him and his girlfriend did the "over the Leopard Install", I reformatted, installed Leopard, and then promptly installed SL. None of us have had any hick ups. I would be the first person he would call if there were problems, even though he is in OC and I am in Portland. ;)
He has a 2 month old 13" MBP, and his gf has a 4 month old MB (aluminum).

Snow Leopard is running great on my MBP.

Concerning "Snow Leopard=Windows," - if Windows had ran anywhere close to as well as Snow Leopard is running now, I would have bought another Dell laptop in January instead of my MBP!!!

These threads crack me up sometimes... :D

Apparently the presence of Apple's Quicktime can double or even
triple the time it takes to upgrade. See the comments here:

http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/paul/archive/2009/09/14/vista-to-7-upgrade-20-hours.aspx

I wonder if that extreme worst-case scenario figure you quote is in
part due to Quicktime being installed.

In my experience, the one thing likely to make Windows run terribly
is Apple's own Windows software!*

*On purpose? ;-)

Hey all,

I hate to start the subject of this post so negative but Snow Leopard is really disappointing. I have had nothing but problems since I've installed it. My computer runs a million times slower, Firefox takes forever to load pages that once loaded in a snap. My digital camera doesn't sync anymore, and my battery life has gone from suburb to horrible. I dont think i did anything to cause this, just been using my mp as normal. Anyone have anything similar?

You are in the minority. Sorry to hear of your issues.

Stop complaining. Try updating a 3 year old XP install to Vista, then come back and tell me what's its like...

I can tell you, vista sp2 is a lot more stable than SL, and im a big windows hater.

I think it's linux for me now.

On my macbook I seen a few things with my fresh install.
Sometimes on bootup the top bar goes missing for awhile.
Youtube races the fans but that needs to probably be fixed from java/flash.
But otherwise it runs just like leopard for me no faster except maybe on shutdown.
And software not working is not Apples fault Biotch to the companies that make it they need to make their software run with SL.

Works fine so far for me.
Clean install is a must on a new OS.

I installed SL on an older MBP and it's so much better than Tiger.
I think I'm gonna use that machine more often now.
