A very significant part of me doesn't even care about innovation.

I agree. It's confusing why people seem to be hung up on whether Apple is innovating, all while they put out one improved product after another. What other company is any industry is held to the standard people demand of Apple? The 2014 line of automobiles will be much like the 2013 line--nothing earth shattering, but newer. Nobody complains about lack of innovation in coffee makers, refrigerators, cars, etc. But if Apple fails to reinvent an entire industry every few years, they're said to be failing. BS.

I am in awe to be surrounded by so many rich people that can afford a new phone each year. I tip my hat to you good sirs...

To OP, let me fast forward to Friday for you...

1 - You buy the iPhone 5s

2 - You spend 10-15 minutes playing with the finger print scanner - sweet I've registered my print

3 - You take a few photos and make some slow mo vids of your dog taking a dump.

4 - You go back to running and using the phone in the exact same way you used your 5. But before you do, you Facebook post "Got an iPhone 5s.. don't be jelly"

5 - You ponder the meaning of life and if you should cut back on the amount of trolling you do on macrumors...

Good luck to you op. See you around Game Centre...

Ouch.

I can't say why exactly but I love this post :D

You are ignoring the change in architecture. The A7 in combination with the motion M7 chip might be a BIG BIG BIG hint towards the "iWatch" whatever wrist device.

What if the 5c would not be able to support all of the features if you combine it with the iWatch.

The iPhone 5s IS A BIG DEAL, but people are just looking at screen size, megapixels and the casing.

Apple certainly had something in mind when they decided to introduce the A7/M7 in the "premium" model.

In short: Everyone who thinks the 5s is just a small increase from the 5 is mistaken in my opinion.

The 5c on the other hand is $100 to expensive. It would be amazingly successful. It's not the $ price, it's the DIFFERENCE between the 5c and 5s that will make the 5c a tough sell.

The 5S isn't a big deal because the new tech such as 64 bit won't be a big deal until the 6 arrives.

Apps are only just catching up with the 4" screen.

You have to think about these new big leaps for the year ahead, they don't come to fruition right away. They just pave the way for future changes and start getting the tech into the user's hands.

My advice would be to wait for the 6, you will thank me then.:)

I agree I think the M7 chip is going to end up being a big deal. I think it was downplayed because its real use is going to be for the future.

I am excited about the 5S and I will be excited about the 6 and 6S etc lol

I feel the same way. I have had every iPhone since the original. I could care less about TouchID. I upgraded to the 4S mainly for the upgraded processor. The iPhone 5 is already blazing fast, I highly doubt the 5S will feel twice as fast. I know I will not be able to resist the temptation and will end up upgrading.

Soon update cycles for phones and tablets will be similar to PC's due to the negligible upgrades...

I've been using pedometer apps on my iPhone for a while, and they all cause a significant hit on the battery. It would be great when those apps get updated to take advantage of the M7. Combine that with the new camera features (I always blink when my picture is taken with a flash. Will the burst mode help with that?), it's very tempting to upgrade from my 5.

Of course, the 6 will have the motion chip, camera functions, and additional features I will no doubt want. But if I buy the 5S now, I get to enjoy the camera features for a full year more, and depending on how fast pedometer apps get updated, maybe half a year or more of M7 chip functions. Is that worth upgrading this year? Decisions, decisions...

are most people stupid? yes! why? becuz apple releases ip5c and calls it a new phone... ummm, it's the ip5 in plastic!!! wait let me correct that in the word of mr ives... it's "beautifully, unapologetically plastic." what does that even mean? "the ip5c is the distillation of what people love about ip5". say what?

I sure hope so! If that were the norm it would stop the incessant whining threads like this one.

Have you looked in the MacBook / desktop Mac threads? Plenty of whining going on. Perhaps not to the same degree as phone/tablet, but the question of "should I upgrade now or wait?" is eternal.

When Haswell came out for the MBA I didn't see nearly the amount of "OMG Apple sucks/lacks innovation I'm switching to PC" or "There is NO reason to upgrade from my 2012 MBA, the new one is a worthless update" type threads that you see constantly in the iPhone section here on MacRumors

Seems like people in the Mac/PC field are more level headed and not so spoiled to become little trollish brats every year their expectations are not met.

That is the wrong question to ask me lol. I am a yearly upgrader, it always seems to work out to where I don't have to spend more than 100 to upgrade so I see no downside.

Also I think you will see pedometer apps updated rather quickly to take advantage of the M7 and if they don't update quickly new apps will be out to take advantage of it pretty quickly as well.

why do people think people are spending $700 on a phone a year when they sell their current phone and only pay the difference?

I can't figure that out either. In fact most years I make money on the deal. I should be able to pocket 100-150 this year in fact.
