My MacBook Pro Story
After reading this entire thread over the last few days and not happy with what I'm reading, made an appointment with the Genius Bar last night. My computer was purchased February 2008 has been the best one I have owned so far. Perfect in every way and other than some jumbled text on Safari I have not encountered any other symptoms. Luckily for me the Genius on duty was one I trust and has been an employee since the store opened 6/8 years ago. He has replaced several things for me from computers to 5 of the first generation iPhones until I finally got one that worked. He knows his stuff and he also understands I know mine and have bought a lot of $$$ from them. My wife and both sons and their wifes all are Apple users and each of us have the iPhone and at least two computers each.. laptop and desk top. He takes the gizmo that I understand was developed for the purpose of checking the defective video card with the bad chips and runs a series of test. Passed all test and showed no defects. Then he opened almost every application on my laptop then opened ten You Tube videos and all running at the same time. Computers finally got as hot as I have ever had it then did the test thing again.... passed. Since today was the last day of my year warranty, I purchased Apple Care and now good for two more years. After all said and done I am happy because for now my laptop is fine and I like it better than the unibody because of the keyboard and track pad. My plan is to keep it maybe another year and sell it before the Apple Care expires, by then the new model will have grown on me and another speed bump or two. Bottom line is the computer works as good as the day I purchased it and with AppleCare I can relax even if it cooks later. Right now I do not want to lay out another $3,000.00 to buy the new top of the line MacBook Pro and for $300.00 they will replace of repair anything except damage from abuse(dropped) or spilled liquid through the keyboard neither up to now have ever happened to me. The last thing I may add is this is the FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER PURCHASED APPLECARE so it is not than I am trying to sell it for them. I would suggest if you have access to an Apple store visit the Genius bar and have your computer checked. Piece of mine PRICELESS !!
