I use my 6S in the shower all the time to read messages, change songs etc and it's never caused it any damage do id assume this would be even less risky with the 7. Maybe I'm just lucky!
That takes....

For anybody who can't be away from their phone for the 5 minutes that it takes to shower, you need to slip & fall on your iPhone and crack your head on the towel rack.

I'm not that familiar with IP67 water resistance. Is this the same resistance that Samsung have currently? Anyone had any experience with this?

I imagine it's not wise to be submerging the thing for sh!ts and giggles. But I for one will find it massively convenient to carry on using my phone in the shower

Plus I've always wanted to shampoo my hair and my phone at the same time.

Yes it is the same as the galaxy S7. Its officially good for 1 meter under water for up to 30 minutes. However its important to remember they do that test by just leaving it 1 meter down. So if you try and swim around with your phone under water your will 100% for sure exceed the amount of pressure that is created by just being 3 feet under water. It should be just fine to shower with.

i think it would be okay as long you don't put it in the direct stream of water. shouldn't get it too hot either.

Touch screens wig out in water. I shower in my Apple Watch, and to skip to the next track I have to dry it off with my towel.

Wrong. The S7 has an IP68 rating, not IP67. The iPhone 7 is not IPX5 or IPX6 rated so it hasn't been rated against directed water, e.g. jets, faucets, showers, etc.

From the group that certifies Ingress Protection:

  • No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust tight). A vacuum must be applied. Test duration of up to 8 hours based on air flow.
  • Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 m of submersion).

Be careful folks. Being water resistant in a liquid state doesn't necessarily mean water vapour resistant in the gaseous sense. I worked for Samsung a little while back as a temporary promoter for the S6/S7 phones and when the S7 came out I was warned that IP ratings aren't designed to be water vapour proof. Preventing gaseous substance entering the phone is a completely different ball game to liquid molecules (which are bigger).

Using the phone in the shower? The direction humanity is heading is starting to scare me.

It's OK to put your phone down for 5 minutes.

How do you take a ****? Are you one of those guys that reads the labels of shampoo bottles?

I would be careful against direct water from the shower head (water pressure) and especially the steam if its hot.

Just not a great idea overall. And I agree I cannot see any reason someone needs a phone in a shower. Toilet ok I get it nothing else to do sitting there.

Anyway excited about opportunity to listed to music or podcasts in the shower? Can also use the front camera to help shave in the shower. No more foggy mirrors!

You know you could have just saved a ton of money and just bought a Life Proof case for your older iPhone. Then you could have gone swimming and showered all you wanted.

I think it is unnecessary personally, Get a bluetooth speaker and move it to the bathroom for music and podcast. Regarding swimming, I like to my hands free to enjoy the environment.

It will be interesting to watch the inevitable barrage of "water resistance test" videos that will hit YouTube shortly following the phone's release. I'm inclined to think that most of you are being overly conservative regarding it's "resistance", but we shall see!! Admittedly I'm not an expert on the dynamics of water in vapor versus liquid form, but I'd think that withstanding 1m of water for 30 minutes is far more challenging than a bit of mist in the shower (assuming the phone isn't hold directly in the jet stream).

As far as water damage not being covered under warranty, I don't think that can be taken as an assumption that it has poor resistance as some of you seem to be doing. Can you imagine if Apple were to say that water damage IS covered under warranty? That would be a free pass to take the phone into any amount of water at every opportunity.

Hell, the iPhone 6S has videos of it being submerged in a bowl of water for 30 minutes whilst powered on and it never even phased it.
