Hopefully not until somebody gets banned.

The thread starter needs a firsthand demonstration...

Good point. ;)

I was reading this thread and its creators status asys banned, his name is switzermac, why was he banned??

I don't think it's appropriate to discus the details of an individuals status, whatever it may be.

Needless to say no-one gets banned from MR for no reason, we don't tolerate vendettas against individuals by mods as we don't tolerate rudeness and flouting the rules by members.

I know this is off-topic. I'm curious to know who are those with Guest status in MR?
I think its thouse who just go through the forums without logging in.

I really doubt so. It's just so strange that anyone could just post a thread/reply without even becoming a member of MR. At least, that's the basic rules in any forum.

Thanks Mudbug for the clarification. ;)

Is it that much of a surprise that spam and personal attacks will get you banned?

On that note, I wonder how close I've been to getting banned? Probably quite close for producing replies where I really don't say anything.

(see below for example)

Your wages are garnished for 3 months and go directly to MacRumors. Fear not, you will receive a nice t-shirt signed by all the moderators along with a parting note handwritten by Martha Stewart ... "Dear Former Member, thank you for your past contributions, but you just don't fit in here. Goodbye and safe travels."

And you'll be asked to switch back to Windows. :p

And you are not referring to me surely, aren't you?

Nah. ~Shard~'s post trail (i.e., his past 500 posts) extends back a mere two weeks, and he's still around. ;) I doubt every one of his posts was especially lengthy and germane. Unlike mine. :)

One word answers in threads are usually thought of as spam, you looking to get banned...?

As of now, no mod has ever been banned from MR.:D

There's a mission, right there.

I'll be glad to ban myself but then, you'll have more work to do. :D I banned myself when I'd had too much of the IRC channel and quit.

Yeah, I have those tendencies every once and a while. No posting for a few days, then lots of posting. In general, I've been spending more time here though than in the past, and I enjoy it. :) Also, in this case, you could say I'm "planning ahead", as I will be away for 2.5 weeks in November on my honeymoon in Hawaii, so I won't be posting at all. ;) Then come January, I'm off to Vegas for the CES, and moving into our new home, so I doubt you'll see me around much either in the new year, at least not as much as now... ;)

Oh, and I just posted a lengthy reply in this thread so there :p :p :p ;)

Congratulations! I see why you're pre-loading. ;)

Banned users have too go to the willow patch and fetch a switch, and then meet edesignUK behind the woodshack. They than proceed to bare their behind for a long, hard switching. :D :p

Then the banned users sore behinds are posted in the picture gallery for all to view and comment on. :p
Ooohhhh. Sounds like fun.

What's the quickest way to get banned?!

P.S. I'm joking! :D :D :D

I would add that MR is one of the nicest and well mannered forums that I have ever been on. Many other forums that I have been on get way out of hand all the time it seems. Compliments to Arn and the crew.

I couldn't remember where but I've seen it somewhere. It has its own metallic-N avatar with 'guest' status.

Heh, they don't get their own avatar! I remember him, he said his final goodbye pretty harshly. Guesting is a more polite way of banning, when the user doesn't want to stay at MR for whatever reason.

I think his name was nusuni or nunsi... lemme look for his goodbye thread.

EDIT: Here is NusuniAdmin's goodbye thread, and here is a thread I made asking about Guests.

I know I'm always curious to know why someone was banned if it's not obvious. I'm pretty sure as long as you try to remain civil you'll be ok. Even if you make a mistake, the mods are pretty good about warning you first. I remember calling someone an insensitive prig and expecting a warning, but I guess no one reported me. Plus he was a pretty abhorrent person who was advocating something that no sane person would say in mixed company. I've had posts deleted too if I'm arguing with a troll or something, but I don't mind. As long as theirs are also deleted and i don't get banned, it's stops me from looking like I said something stupid. Not that I haven't done that too. I think vniow is still mad at me for something I said that came out wrong. I meant well.

Be careful in the Political Forum. It's more open, but there are strict rules there too. I hope they keep this thread open, it might help some people not get banned. :D Or give them ideas.

On the forums that I run (using PhpBB), if I delete someone's user account without also deleting their posts, their status shows up as "Guest" in the forums.
