On the forums that I run (using PhpBB), if I delete someone's user account without also deleting their posts, their status shows up as "Guest" in the forums.

Good to know, I always wondered how NusuniAdmin achieved the status of "Guest" and had an avatar and all that.

Is that the same reason a member such as King Cobra has a date beside his ranking? Is it the date of his departure or something? Or perhaps you don't want to answer, Flowbee, as I seem to remember you unexplainably being on his "enemies list"... ;)

Anyway, as suggested, we probably shouldn't be talking about past members and their situations/circumstances for banning.

Demi-gods used to have a date next to our rank which showed the expiration date of our membership (unless we renewed). That changed some time ago.

As for King Kobra, that's not the first "enemies" list I've ever been on.... and probably won't be the last. :D

Only the members you aren't allowed to talk about ... since getting around the bad work filter and writing their names "in the clear" or talking about some of the other's reasons for getting banned, will get you banned. ;)

I have to admit I have a morbid fascination with banned members... it's like somebody with a large scar or wound - you wonder "ooh, what happened there?"

And I always get a kick out of those "I'm leaving" threads.

What are the i'm leaving threads about, are they threatening?
A number of members have decided to go out with an "I'm leaving forever and here's why" thread which tends to end up with them banned. I'd list names, but I doubt that'd go over well. Wait long enough, you'll see one.

Basically, they complain about how badly they've been treated, who has been oppressing them, why the mods suck (in their opinion), etc.

Most people, when they go away, just do it quietly. But some people prefer to do it in a great blaze of... mediocrity.

Good comparison ... might be similar to what true crime writers experience as they try to learn more about the background and experiences that led those they cover to act as they did.

Oh, okay, thanks for clearing that up. If you look for KC's old posts, you can still see it listed...

Isn't it fun to be on "enemies lists"? ;) :D

hey jsw-

how is it that on page 2 of this discussion you have a different avatar then on page 3?

i thought that when you changed your avatar, it changed in all your posts?

WOW, nevermind- it was a girl, now it is back to the regular one... weird..

Heh, they don't get their own avatar! I remember him, he said his final goodbye pretty harshly. Guesting is a more polite way of banning, when the user doesn't want to stay at MR for whatever reason.

I think his name was nusuni or nunsi... lemme look for his goodbye thread.

llama

EDIT: Here is NusuniAdmin's goodbye thread, and here is a thread I made asking about Guests.
Yes, NusuniAdmin is the one I'm talking about. I just couldn't understand the rationale of him to leave MR after reading his farewell thread.

Yeah, I've noticed that, too. I think I remember him saying something about it going temporarily offline while he's updating the weather.

*digs around for the thread*

Edit: ah yes, https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/150916/ here it is

Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm curious about something that really doesn't warrant starting a new one. Is there any sort of official or unofficial policy about deleting members with low or no post counts who haven't logged on in a certain amount of time?

Whoops... people warned ya it was bad luck to post in the banned thread!

I really shouldn't find the irony of this situation amusing, yet, I do...

Actually, that's not a bad question for the Mods/Gods. Is there any clean-up policy in place? I realize there are some members who legitimately don't post much, sometimes not even for months, who are still "active" whom you wouldn't want to delete, but otherwise, what about members who have only a handful of posts from a couple years ago, or something along those lines?

I personally am appalled, and slightly ashamed, to say that I have never been banned.  :D
I was banned once, but it was during a major system freak-out in January of this year, and it cleared up shortly, so I think it was not an actual ban.

If it was, it was very short-lived.

Sure, blame it on the system

I knew you were a troublemaker.

I agree, looks that way.

Way to go, and that thread you started definitely answers the question everyone way asking.
