The answer may be different on the newest watches. The double pinch gesture on the series 9 and ultra 2 are implemented in the new neural engine chip, as opposed the assistive touch double pinch on the older watches that implemented in software on the main processor. I'm guessing that the reason the assistive touch feature is disabled by default is that it uses a lot of battery.
Just wondering is conjecture or reality. How would it even be measured / tested?

I don't get why people on forums take things so personally, totally miss the point, take shots at people, and project. It's a discussion.
I don't know why you felt compelled to include those comments in your reply to my post. If you read thru this thread, I am amongst several others who've tried this feature and simply "forget" it is there and don't find it too useful.
in a discussion (on the internet with many strangers of various backgrounds) you'll get opinions, if you don't like other people's opinions, that's too bad, but frankly, no-one "took a shot" at you so your part of the reply is just irritation to me, and again, that is my opinion

I have used it with varying results. I have been unable to use it to silence a timer after it’s reached 0, for example, and that seems like it should be one of the most common use cases.

You need to raise the wrist (so the watch could “wake up”) for it to work. I’ve been dismissing timers going off without any issues.

Battery usage on my Ultra 2 was excellent before 10.1.1 and even got a little bit better. Fully charged at 12am and now 9 hours later it is at 94%. No optimizations in place, AOD on, etc.

I replied to a message when flipping burgers on the grill, stopped timers and looked up remaining time on the active timers by bringing up widgets. All without touching the screen.

wow, that would be really useful with the timers, with no hands.

Is there a step by step instructions tutorial you can point me to for this?

Bridging up Widgets?!

Hope you can advise, this would be really useful everyday.

Widgets only work with the new double tap feature on Series 9 and Ultra 2. Not sure if you can set it up with the old accessibility method.

To bring the widget list (Smart Stack), just raise your wrist to wake up the screen and do the double tap gesture, it will bring up the first widget in the list. Each subsequent tap will cycle through the list one by one.

When there are any active timers, they will be at the top of the stack.

So, basically, my flow was using Siri to set the timers (you can set several), then use double tap to see how long before they get to zero, and use double tap to dismiss a timer that went off.

I have found some scenarios where it seems odd that you can't use it. For example, you tell Siri to stop a workout and it shows you the summary of your workout. Double tap does nothing on that screen when I would think that it would act as a dismiss button.

You also can’t dismiss when multiple notifications arrive at the same time, while the old quick action thingy allowed it.

The last few days (after updating to 10.1), it had not worked at all to turn off a timer. I tried toggling it off and back on again in Gestures, but no joy. I just updated to 10.1.1 and it works again (for now).

A friend of mine told me that this is fixed in watchOS 10.2. Interested to give it a try.

The way Apple advertises Double Tap on the Ultra 2 and Series 9 is laughable. It's a big gamble on whether the feature even works when you try it. When it does, it's in a super limited way which always makes me wonder how many people at Apple approved this.

I still love my Ultra 2.

True. Yesterday I tried it again and it failed with a very basic task: dismissing a notification during a rowing workout.
Notification was blocking the screen for ages, no chance.

I agree it has been hit or miss as far as to my use, I finally just ignore it and got onto enjoying my Ultra 2

I wish we had the ability to tweak what it did for certain things. I just used to to silence an alarm, but it was a snooze. I would want to just end an alarm.

Hopefully they expand its uses (or allow us to define that...ha!), but as is, it's pretty useless IMO.
