Other than snoozing (when it works) I seem to forget about it, so I don't attempt to use it for anything else. I guess its just a lack of training/motivation on my part.
Same thing with the nightstand mode of my phone. I aways forget to put in it landscape orientation.

Would you mind explaining how you use double tap on the Smart Stack and how it helps you?

The only way I found it useful for me is when I have some timers running and want to look up how much time have left without touching the screen.

Previously I just put a timer complication on the watch face, but it won’t show multiple timers and takes a valuable spot that I would rarely need. A timer in the Smart Stack is a nice convenience feature.

I wish there was a way to assign Double Tap to bring up the old dock (the double press of the Digital Crown for the new App Switcher isn't cutting it) and or act like a home button and take you back to your main watch face from wherever you are. I guess there's always next year. Sometimes you should leave well enough alone, Apple.

I have found some scenarios where it seems odd that you can't use it. For example, you tell Siri to stop a workout and it shows you the summary of your workout. Double tap does nothing on that screen when I would think that it would act as a dismiss button.
in fairness, when you use the screen to end a workout, you're presented with the summary ... and I started to use Siri for exactly that as the confirmation screen is just stupid, for me.
And I agree, double tap should bring you back to the watch face, or "home", from any app ...

And for me, I really don't use it anymore, I kept the tab open that describes when you can use it but most of those things I don't do anyway and one has to remember ...

Hoping there will be some customization in the future

I just use it to open and scroll the smart stack. I have added exercise status, on the 3 complication next I put timer, workouts, and mindfulness. After that I just have information stuff like stocks, heart rate, cal, and compass.

The two things that would be very useful to me do not work: answering a call, and stopping a timer. Oddly, I can pause a timer but not tap to shut it off. Other double tap features work, just not these two I would actually use. Tried all of the suggestions on the apple support page, up to completely setting watch up as new. Nope.

This came in so handy when I was eating yesterday and had BBQ sauce on my hands. I was able to scroll down a long text message, start voice dictation, and send my reply all with double tapping my fingers together.

Thanks for reply that stinks -_- would think be an easy thing to add via software. Not trying to spend another 800.00 for that gesture but seems very convenient.
You can use the Accessibility hand clench gesture to do something similar. Not sure if that is as accurate as the double finger tap though.

You should get at least $500 for your U1 on Swappa, that brings the new one down to around $300 :)

I finally figured out a use that I like: When I get tired of the Modular face and want something simpler I really am liking the Contour face. I set up the double-tap to scroll weather, stocks and activity so I can see them when I want to.

Yes. When you use a watch face that has few to no complications, the double-tap works to give you similar functionality. I use the Solar Analog and Snoopy face a lot and without quick access to the smart stack, I wouldn't be very happy.

I use doble tap for multiple actions. My favorite is answearing/ending calls, checking and scrolling and dictating and finally sending messeges - it works not only in native imessage but everywhere (like messenger or telegram).
Scrolling smart stack is also useful. Frankly when i first heard about this feature treated it like a gimmick but after realesing i use it constantly and can't imagine not having it

I get a notification of a message. Lift wrist says who from, double tap but get the “shake no” indicator, shouldn’t it open the message body to read?

I am up to date on iPhone 15 and S9.

Late to the party as just upgraded my AWU1 to an AWU2 a couple of days ago. It's not perfect, but I use it multiple times a day to dismiss notifications and do similar to you to glance at my stack on minimalistic faces.

I tried the Accessibility feature on the AWU1, and really couldn't get on with it - The double tap works flawless for me 100% of the time. I hope they introduce more features like a triple or clench tap to give even more functionality.

HORRIBLE!

seems to me that those apple watch developers never pedaled a bicycle.
every time I grab my water bottle, a song skips, pauses or switches to my iPhone.
then the watch has the audacity to ask if im done cycling and questing me to tap the screen.
if I had an extra set of hands I could.

my solution is a quick turn gesture tap off and on within a step or two.
using the watch can be time consuming compared to other :apple:devices.

If you're using a regular Apple Watch, you may want to turn it around, so the wheel is at the bottom of the watch, closest to your elbow.

I was having issues with my cycling gloves pausing rides, but that solved it. It did take a few days to get used to, but now it's normal for me.

Have not used the feature since a while.
Did watchOS 10.2 bring any (minor) changes to it?

I was hoping my series 9 would start letting me stop a timer or answer calls with double tap, but no luck.
