yes iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw is the iPhone 3G version. and yes it does restore so you'll lose everything from your phone BUT if you make a backup in iTunes before hand then that backs up everything except media (i.e. contacts, calendar events, notes, safari bookmarks, settings, etc.). all of your media is on iTunes so you don't have to worry about that.

I was able to keep everything in tact. There was an "Update" button in my iTunes so I shift-clicked that, selected the new ipsw and installed. Saved a bunch of time. I do miss my jailbreak dearly though.

Sorry for my ignorance, but will there be a difference to the one released on the 17th?

If i download and install this GM floating around, can i just update my phone as usual when firmware updates come out?

Mine didn't work at first. So, I called my iphone and left a message. When the message arrived, visual vmail worked again.

It's as if the visual vmail needs to be initialized (by receiving a message or by calling the vmail system the old-fashioned way) before it actually appears.

I am not getting visual voicemail, have called VM and manually gone thru the messages. since had new vm left (still not appearing). restarted phone. still not appearing.
when I go into the VM tab, I am not getting the prompt to enter a password, but if I go into the greeting menu, and hit save, it trys to save for about a minute then says "VM Unavailable. Unable to connect. Try again later."
suggestions?

I've had 3.0 GM running for 3 days now.. Meh.

Voice app is nice enough. Seems laggy going to landscape for emails. As mentioned in other posts, the call log and the additional vis. VM features are underrated and pretty helpful

Seachlight is helpful.

Overall, I'm mildly impressed but not blown away.

I really like 3.0... But for some reason, bluetooth doesn't appear to be working properly.

I can turn it on/off, but no devices are ever discovered.

Other devices can discover and pair with the iphone, but it can never initiate the pairing process.

anyone else see something similar?

thanks,
dt

is it worth it?

I am considering trying to load 3.0 right now. How long will the whole process take on a 8G iPhone 3G? Is it worth the trouble to load 3.0 now when I can get it in less than a week? In other words is it easy and are there directions I can follow?

It wasn't there before - which made absolutely no sense.

I'm with the poster above - underwhelmed. It's more like a 2.5 release then a 3.0. There definitely isn't as big a difference from going from 2.2.1 to 3.0 as there was going from 1.1.4 to 2.0.

Mostly just features that should have been there in the first place.

Of course there isn't. We got the App Store. That alone was a huge part of the update.

Remove that addition and the update from 1.1.4 to 2.0 wasn't all that "grand" either.

True, Although I am excited it is there now, certain things like forwarding of text messages are things that all phones have had standard for many years. I still do not think there is a way to send a phone number to someone via text message. The 3.0 release added the ability to send number's via email but not sms. This makes giving someone a phone number a matter of memorizing the digits then quick flipping over to the sms app. LAME:confused:

Um, copy/paste? ;)

i wish i would've known that. the guide i went by said you had to shift-click restore. that would've saved me the 2 hours it took to restore that backup and the hour it took to sync back my media.

Google Maps Auto-Rotate

Thought I saw Google Maps Rotate and always point "UP" on the keynote.
Was this a 3.0 upgrade or a 3GS option?

Nevermind I found it, it's a "Compass" App thing

has anyone been able to sync notes to mail.app with itunes or mobileme? i did check "sync notes" in itunes... dont know if i have to do anything on the iphone... didnt find anything...

I think it syncs in iTunes only. Not OTA yet. Notes and ToDo's are something Apple is trying to figure out for MobileMe. Not sure why they can't seem to get this one done.

I can't find my synced notes either. iTune shows that they are being transferred.

This is on a Mac.

im sure ive seen an official announcement that in fact 3.0 enables mobileme notes syncing...

In Mail, make sure your notes are in "On My Mac" and not MobileMe. Like I said earlier, Apple hasn't figured this out yet or hasn't prioritized it. Notes are treated as Mail in MobileMe, not as notes... go figure?

my notes are under reminders->notes... that is seperated into mobileme;gmail;local

Nothing called "On My Mac" ?

i gotta switch back to english... right now osx is running in german... "lokal" might just be "on my mac"... but ive restarted mail and itunes and the iphone... now notes are being synced through itunes... so 1 problem solved :D

ive dug deeper into the other... if you goto the mobileme sync preference pane youll see that theres an option to sync notes... its activated... not working though... dont know why still... on the mac that is... not the iphone preferences...

The light dawns...

I finally figured this out for me, and now I feel a little silly. But if others are still puzzled about where their notes are on the desktop on a Mac, they are indeed in Mail. I have never used them before, so I didn't know where to look. The left panel in Mac Mail shows Mailboxes, etc. Each category can be expanded or collapsed. My Reminders category was collapsed, probably since the day I got my Mac, and I have never expanded it to see what was there. When I expanded the category, there were Notes. Inside Notes were the missing synced notes from my iPhone. And if I add a note there on the desktop, it does get synced to my iPhone.

Hope this helps someone else with the same trouble. There are several posts from people who are having trouble finding them.

And this post from earlier in this thread says the same thing, but I didn't understand what it meant until now. As I said, now I feel a bit silly.

it's working and it's nice

Notes on the iphone are syncing automatically as I installed last night and it's all showing up now on Mail as an option on the left side and everything is in there.

Also to do's are listed.

Love 3.0.

It's faster, has the keyboard rotation now (really wanted that in Mail) and can't wait to try the find the iPhone with Mobileme. It already appears, but it doesn't go live until this week.

3.0 is smoother, faster and it just feels more Apple like in its grace and style.

The search function is pretty nice how it's right there on top with a swipe.

My only question is whether I will be selling this as is or going backwards when I sell it to someone. Next month I am eligible for the upgrade so as usual, we jump on the 32GB.

Storage space is always useful.
