Just a quick question about installation: after installing 3.0, do you need to setup your iphone as if you are getting a new one and restore all settings from backup and need to copy music and everything back to it or it just retains all settings and will only update OS?

Thanks in advance

it retained all of my settings.

If you have the iPhone set to automatically backup, following install, the first sync works as any other update, you simply click "Restore iPhone from backup" and select the particular backup you want. So the items you have set before the sync should be present following your restore from backup.

A little bit off topic:

What does "Gold Master" or "GM" mean?

In software development - before you can "print/make" lots of CD's or DVD's you need one master version to make all the copies from.

This is known as the Gold Master as it was usually made on a slightly more expensive gold coloured disc.

With the iPhone 3.0 this is gonna be the version that gets distributed by iTunes next week to all the public - unless some major last minute issue is found between now and then.

No reason to wait until the 17th, just search for the firmware and you will find it.

Visual Voicemail??

Yes its has diagonal lines on the ipod app phone app and message app now..

anyway anyone with 3.0 installed noticed visual voicemail doesnt work, it is just calling directly to my voicemail??

Overall it seems like a very nice upgrade indeed. I was hoping that it would help me get over the urge to get a 3GS but the camera on the 3GS, video, speed bump and increased storage are pulling me in.
Ugh, man I am in the same boat as you are. I was thinking the same thing as you were. Maby if I upgrade to 3.0 I won't want to get the new iPhone but something keeps telling me to get it.

People, the visual voicemail takes awhile to activate. Eventually you'll get a prompt to enter your voicemail password.

It work work properly from that point onward.

never restored your phone before? hit the voicemail and let it talk then hang up. hit it again and it'll call again but this time a box will come up to enter your voice mail password. once entered, hang up and your visual voicemail is back. you have to do this if you wipe completed or don't restore with a back up.

Is there an iDisk app included in the 3.0 software that I heard about?

It isn't included with 3.0, you will need to download it seperately when Apple releases it.

As for voicemail someone was asking about, I just let the message play through, and then when I hung up it popped up asking me for my voicemail password and the visual voicemail is working now.

EDIT: Speaking of voicemail, did it always display the locatioin (city, state) that the call came from? I've never noticed that before...

lol believe it or not i never had to restore my phone. its been 12 hours since i restored and it says the number is not in service when i press the voicemail button

The only new stuff is the AppStore's extra redeem section and the iTunes app's TV shows and movies section.

Everything else has been posted a million times since beta 1 was released.

Is Push Notification up and running? or will they wait to turn it on June 17th?

It's in there, but the preferences won't be displayed until Push Notification applications actually make it onto the App Store.

Whether Apple will allow that to happen before the 17th, no one knows.
