What are the chances that the release on the 17th having changes from the GM?

Have a little problem. All my contacts are double because there's a mobile me group and a my mac group because it was checked in itunes when I synced.

I figured if i uncheck it would remove that group but it's still there.

Anyone know a way in 3.0 to remove the "on my mac" group so when I do all group view of my contacts it's not double?

Thanks.

i am aware of the downgrading issue with the baseband incompatibility..

i was just sharing information I read from another forum (which i just tried to find aagain, but they have now updated the page with info about how you can install and how they have tested it..blah bla)..so i guess my bad..

AFTER ALL THIS IS MACRUMORS...whats wrong with spreading a lil rumor... come on;)

So in summary are there any reasons NOT to upgrade early?

Have any of you early adopters had any issues with the new baseband? Lag? Anything else?

To the OP: I'd like to know what's changed in Google Maps. Anything other than the map rotation on the 3GS?

The blue circle that pops up has changed, it now is a bigger version of the small translucent one. Works MUCH faster, as well. Other than that, I don't see any changes.

And so it is, huh, didn't notice...

I don't see any reason not to upgrade early, but then again, I upgraded early without asking that question, so I might not be the best adviser. :D

I've seen a little twitchiness in Messages App, but that's very minimal. Additionally, Visual Voicemail is not working at all and I have no idea what to do for a solution, but I'm in no hurry. Figure I will deal with it for a couple of days, until the official release is available, install that and likely everything else will be resolved. Copy/Paste is sweet, I just wish MMS worked without any modifications.

it's stealing :p. (well only if you're on an iPod Touch). but i did it and i'm on an iPod Touch but it's restoring my backup right now which takes FOREVER. it's been going for over and hour now and it's only 3/4 of the way done. and i still have to put all my media back on there but i'm going off topic now. you should just upgrade early because then you could avoid the possible cluster f*** on the day they release. last year was horrible with 2.0.

Does Tethering work with your iTouch? (sorry if this is a dumb question - O2 UK claim that tethering won't work with 1st gen iPhones)

no because tethering requires a monthly service charge (at least i'm pretty sure it does) but you wouldn't need tethering on the iPod Touch because if you had WiFi on the touch you would have it on your computer.

Voicemail is on a person by person basis. Mine is up and running just fine.

Have you let it dial in once or twice and let the recording play through?

Now I wish I hadn't picked up this extra shift....

You can jailbreak it to downgrade to 2.2.1. I did it after 3.0 beta 1 and 2, which were weak, then went back for beta 3 which was good and just got better with each beta.

So I've done the download and install and got everything working great...except for push notifications. Where is the menu to activate this? I can't find it anywhere.

Btw, I called my cell phone number and then hung up after listening to some of the recording and my voicemail started working just fine.

The menu isn't missing, the apps are. The push enabled app updates won't come out until after the official release.

Ahh got it after several attempts. Thanks.

Yeah, its really finicky.

Alright, I'm probably just stupid, but I'm having troubles.

I downloaded the file, un-zipped it and was left with a folder called "iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw". I then opened iTunes, option-clicked on Restore and navigated to said file... and can't select anything.

Help?

just noticed on the Recent call tab...under each name it will now shows what was missed...

example...i have my gf's cell and work number saved...every time there's a miss call, it would only show the name...it now states it! like mobile, work, etc :D

This is really irritating and I've had the same problem nearly every time I've tried the "restore from custom ipsw" method. The only way I was ever able to get around it was to restore my device and have iTunes download the file for itself. I'm not sure how to get around it with this because iTunes won't download it for another week...

I'd love to see a solution for this.

Ooooh ok. Thanks. That was the only thing I didn't have and was unaware about. Everything else is great. Apps are quicker, copy and paste works perfectly, youtube is cool...great update. It's like having a new phone. I've got finals to study for but I can't stop playing with my phone. :D

Sounds like you did everything right. Maybe you got a corrupt file?

Ooooh, good catch!
